Tree Fairies - Golden Rain Tree Fairies
This drawing is another in my series of Tree Fairy Drawings. These are Golden Rain Tree Fairies.
Golden Rain Trees got their name from the way the lantern-like seed pods make a rattling sound in the wind. That sound is a lot like the sound of raindrops hitting leaves or even hitting a roof. The seed pods are a golden color in the fall. The Golden Rain Tree was introduced to North America way back in the 1700s by a Jesuit Priest. So it has been here a long time. It is native to Taiwan. It is a short-lived species, for a tree, because it has a life span of around 50 years. By the way, the tree name is also written "Golden Raintree." From what I can tell, both ways of writing the name are correct.
Golden Raintrees have compound leaves. If you look to where the leaf attaches to the branch you will see a bud. That shows where the leaf starts. The things you MIGHT think are the leaves are actually the leaflets. There are several leaflets to each Golden Rain Tree leaf.
Golden Rain Tree Fairies are one of the types of Fairies with three pairs of wings. Their wings are leaf-like in shape but they are also transparent like a Mayfly's wings. In this drawing one Golden Rain Tree Fairy is lying on a branch and the other is flying in to say hello. The flying Fairy is also planning on harvesting the seeds. NOT for eating, but for making necklaces. Golden Rain Tree seeds are used as beads in necklaces.
Golden Rain Tree Fairies will harvest the seeds to make necklaces or earrings. The Fairies also extract a black dye from the seeds. The Fairies also make a yellow dye from the Golden Raintree Flowers. In fact, the bright yellow flowers might be one of the reasons it is called a "Golden" Rain Tree.
By the way, these two Golden Rain Tree Fairies are named Aurea and Aurumia. Aurea is flying and Aurumia is goofing off lying on the branch.
NOTE: This drawing is found, in printable form, by clicking on the button labeled: "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus" and scrolling down to the bottom of the list. New drawings are at the bottom of the list.
I want to add that I LOVE this species of tree. I am including a photo of some of the seed pods from this type of tree. Our neighbors, across the street, both have Golden Rain Trees. By the way, don't eat the seeds from this tree. In general, this tree's leaves and fruit are toxic.

By the way, since this tree is native to Taiwan I am publishing this drawing in Chinese as well.
