Happy New Year BC 65 Million (for 2022) coloring page

 It's New Year's Eve.

So today's new drawing is a New Years' Comic.

Happy New Year BC 65 Million (for 2022)

(The T. rex, the Pteranodon, and the Tylosaurus definitely

did NOT have a good year after the meteorite hit!)

This drawing shows the meteorite that very likely wiped out much of the Mesozoic Era life.  The meteorite hit at the end of the Cretaceous Period.  Before that, there were dinosaurs.... after the meteorite hit there soon were no more large dinosaurs.  The small feathered avian dinosaurs DID survive.  We call them birds.

You should know that the large space rock that hit the Earth 65 million years ago actually hit the ocean just north of the Ycatan Penninsula.  There are various theories of why it killed off the big dinosaurs.  One says that the impact caused a fireball that encircled the total planet and if you were not small enough to hide in the ground you died.  Another theory is that so much ash and etc. were blasted into the air that it caused a "nuclear winter" and the big dinosaurs froze or starved to death.  Either way, the birds survived.  The big marine reptiles died off but the turtles and crocodiles survived.

I have been a very amateur astronomer for 47 years... ever since my dad got me a telescope for Christmas when I was 13.  Sooooo.... I want to tell you that a space rock - that is still in space is called an asteroid.  The Solar System even has an asteroid belt with thousands of asteroids that orbit between Mars and Jupiter.  When an asteroid hits the Earth's atmosphere we call it a meteor.  They are also called shooting stars if they are very small asteroids.  Thousands of tiny asteroids hit the Earth's atmosphere and burn up without hitting the Earth.  I should say that thousands every day burn up without ever hitting the ground.  When a meteor is larger it does not burn completely up in the atmosphere.  It hits the ground and we call it a Meteorite.  I used to teach my science students that the meteorite hit RIGHT on the Earth...  Do you get it?  Meteorite hits rite on the Earth?  This helped my students remember the difference between meteors and meteorites.

Flower Fairies with a new Flower Fairy named Lilac & other Fairy coloring pages

This is my free coloring pages blog.

Today's newest drawing is of a Lilac Fairy.

More specifically it is a Flower Fairy named Lilac.

Flower Fairy named Lilac

There are many types of Flower Fairies.  Each type of Flower Fairy has a preference for a certain type of flowering plant.  THIS is Lilac, so of course, she loves lilac bushes and lilacs.  Here we see Lilac, who has just transformed into mortal size, and she is emerging from the lilac bush.  She is wearing a Balteum Volantes or flying belt.  She, and most Fairies, wear a flying belt so they can fly faster and further than they can on wing power alone.  A flying belt allows them to fly at high speed and for great distances.

Notice that Lilac has a butterfly necklace.  This indicates that she is also a Butterfly Fairy.

Lilacs are considered magical by the Celtics.  There are white lilacs and purple lilacs and they symbolized different things.  White lilacs represent purity & innocence.  Purple lilacs represent spirituality.

Lilac leaves are smooth-edged and are very heart-shaped.  Some people think this means lilac bushes and lilac flowers represent love.

Lilacs are native to Europe but are now seen all over many Eastern states in the USA.  They are also seen in some western states... including here in Utah, USA.  However, Lilacs are one of my personal favorite smells... but I am allergic to their pollen.

NOTE:  This new drawing up top is found by clicking on the button labeled "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus."  Scroll down to the bottom of the drop-down menu and you will find the new drawing.  Below are some other Flower Fairy drawings from previous posts so their printable versions will be further up the list. Some of the below drawings were done before I studied more on how to draw people (and Faries).  So they are not comparable to my more recent drawings.

Royal Mermaid Princess named Ellinor and a few other Mermaid coloring pages

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

Today's new drawing is a Mermaid Princess.

Royal Mermaid Princess named Ellinor

Ellinor is a Mermaid Princess.  Her Trident Crown indicates that.  She is a compassionate Mermaid.  She is known for her kindness throughout the North Sea.  She lives with her family off the coast of Denmark.  Her father is the Sea King.

Interesting enough, Ellinor is a magnet to many sea creatures, especially invertebrates.  They come to play and visit with her.  Most Merpeople can communicate with vertebrate life in the ocean, but Ellinor can also communicate with invertebrates and that is a rare gift.

This drawing includes several invertebrates including a baby Giant Squid, a Common Octopus, a crab, and a Sea Worm.  There is also a Brain Coral.  The fish you see are not invertebrates.  They are vertebrates and they are a shark, a Parrotfish, and a small reef fish..  Sharks are cartilaginous fish so their bones are made of cartilage.  The Parrotfish and reef fish are true bony fish.

Notice that some of the Mermaids have a navel visible.  This is because Merpeople are born live.  They are not hatched from jelly-like eggs as fish are.

NOTE:  This new drawing is available in printable form by clicking on the button labeled "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus."  Then scroll down to the bottom of the drop-down menu to see this title.  Click on the title to see the drawing.  Then you can print it.  Below are some older drawings of Mermaids.

By the way, this Mermaid was inspired in part by the "Barbie Mermaid" that our granddaughter got for Christmas.  Have fun coloring!

Female Shepherd with Baby Jesus coloring pages

Today's new post is another female shepherd.

There WERE some female shepherds in ancient Israel.

Female Shepherd with Baby Jesus

(new drawing)

Baby Jesus was first visited by shepherds who had been out at night watching over their flocks. There WERE female shepherds in ancient Israel.  I recently learned that fact.  The baby Jesus is wrapped in swaddling clothes... which were strips of fabric on the arms and legs... thought to help the legs and arms grow straight.

NOTE:  This is the second female shepherd I have drawn this year.  The older drawing is posted below.  These drawings are available in printable form by clicking on the Holidays button and scrolling down to the bottom of the Christmas section.

Christmas 2021 coloring pages

 Merry Christmas!

Here are some of my newer Christmas coloring pages.

I am also posting some older ones from past Christmases.

The printable drawings are found by clicking on the button labeled "Holidays"

...then scroll down to the Christmas section of the list.

Newest drawings are at the bottom of the Christmas list.

The newest drawing is of an Elf Family.

Elf Family working on Toys

(new drawing)

You may not know this, but Elves are a type of wingless Fairy.  They have magical powers and can choose to live for hundreds of years.  Santa has some of these Elves living with him at the North Pole.  Santa himself is a mortal who is a small part Elf.  He has magic, along with his wife, that has allowed them to live for hundreds of years.

Elves marry and have children.  Some Elf children grow up and leave for the metal realm.  They magically change their pointed ears to rounded ears and these Elves live among us.  They are generally some of the best, kindest, and generous people you will ever meet.  Of course, you won't know that they are Elves.

As far as size, Elves are naturally closer to mortal size than a Fairy is.  Some are as tall as humans and others are relatively short... like the size of human elementary school-age children.  This drawing shows a family working together on toys for Santa's delivery.  The mother Elf is teaching her son while his baby brother crawls around.

My granddaughter suggested I add the baby Elf.

NOTE:  This new drawing is found, in printable form, by clicking on the button labeled 'Holidays."  Below are some older Christmas drawings.  Have fun coloring and Merry Christmas!!!!  I also posted this new drawing under the 'Fantasy, Myths, and Circus" button.  It is at the bottom of that list.

Reindeer Elf training a Young Reindeer and Facts about Reindeer coloring pages

This is my second new post today.

The drawing of Santa and Mrs. Claus is below this post so just scroll down to see it.

THIS post has a new drawing of an actual reindeer named Sweetie.

Reindeer Elf training a Young Reindeer

Today we went to the Cache County Fairgrounds to see reindeer.  The reindeer were from Rocky Mountain Reindeer Farm.  We met Sweetie and were able to pet her.  She is a young 18-month-old reindeer.  She was absolutely beautiful.  Her Elf Trainer named Alora, was amazingly knowledgeable and very good with our grandkids... so I drew her with Sweetie. .)

(By the way, Elves have magic that can make them the size of mortals when they are among us.  So Alora LOOKED like she was a mortal, but I drew her in her natural Elf size)

Alora (who has a great Elf name), taught us so much about reindeer.  I am listing some of the facts now but tomorrow I'll see if our son-in-law and daughter can remember more facts.

Reindeer legs and feet go to 33 degrees in the winter.  This lets their core body temperature stay and 101 degrees Fahrenheit.

Reindeer females have antlers and shed them later than the males... so Santa's sleigh (if the reindeer have antlers on them at Christmas) must be pulled by all female reindeer.  Male reindeer lose their antlers before Christmas.

Reindeer keep their magic in their antlers so if they lose one antler they can only fly in circles and are not allowed on Santa's team.

Reindeer and Elves have a rivalry but the Elves usually have the upper hand brecuase Elves have opposable thumbs.

Reindeer keeping their magic in their antlers is the other reason that only females can pull Santa's Sleigh.

Santa sometimes in his supersonic flight on Christmas Eve will stop at Reindeer farms at different places to give one of his regular reindeer a rest.  Santa will then hitch up a local reindeer like Sweetie and she will fly with the team for a few minutes so that the regular reindeer gets a break.

Reindeer magic that allows them to fly works only in the night before Christmas.

Caribou is a North American term for wild reindeer.  Everywhere else in the world wild reindeer are just called wild reindeer.

Wild reindeer (or caribou) have longer legs than domesticated reindeer.

Reindeer can pull heavy loads but they can NOT carry heavy loads.

Reindeer have very thick multiple layers of hollow fur that insulates them so well that even though their core body temperature is 101 degrees, they can lay in the snow and not melt the snow.

Reindeer have pads on their feet that constrict in the cold so that their hooves make a cup-like shape and this is great for swimming.

Reindeer can run up to 48 miles per hour for a short time but they can run all day at 10 miles per hour.

The song  Up On The Housetop refers to the reindeer and says "Click!  Click!  Click!" and I always thought it was referring to the sounds of hoves on roof tiles.  But when a reindeer walks its cloven hooves click together!  THAT is the clicking sound the song is talking about.

Reindeer eat reindeer moss and grass.  They can dig up to three feet into the snow to find grass to eat.  They fatten up over the summer and burn fat in the winter.

We met this wonderful Santa today at the local mall, (Cache Valley Mall).   He was great with our grandchildren... Maybe he is the REAL Santa and not what my mom called one of Santa's helpers who report back to Santa.

Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk and other Stealth Aircraft coloring pages

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

Today's new drawing is of the Stealth aircraft called the F-117 Nighthawk.

F-117 Night Hawk

(new drawing)

This is a semi-retired aircraft.  It is probably the first stealth aircraft.  It had a very low radar signature and was used for ground attacks.  It actually has the liability of not being a high-speed maneuverable fighter like the F-22 Raptor or the F-35 Lightning.  On the other hand, only one F-117 was ever shot down when it was on active combat duty.  It was used by the Air Force of the USA from 1983 to 2008, however, some are still in use as trainers or something because they HAVE been spotted.  123 of these were built.  The F-22 Raptor basically made the F-117 obsolete.  The F-22 was supersonic and the F-117 was not.  The F-22 could and can actively participate in a dogfight and the F-117 probably could not.

The F-117 is 63 ft 9 inches long. That is 19.4 meters.  It stands at 12 ft 9 inches tall. That is 3.9 meters. The F-117 wingspan is 43 ft 4 inches wide or 13.2 meters.  It was technically a single-seat fighter bomber but it was only used as a bomber.  It did not carry its own radar so it could only fire heat-seeking air-to-air missiles.  It could carry 5000 lbs of bombs.  That is 2300 kg.

The F-117's official name is Nighthawk, but it has also been called several other names by its pilots. .  It was given the name of "Wobblin Goblin" by test pilots in the testing phase.  It had a shimmer in low-speed flight.  However, that was corrected by the time the jet was put into production.  Some pilots called it the stinkbug.  Some called it Cockroach.  During Operation Desert Storm the F-117s flew many missions night after night and none were damaged by enemy fire.  So the Saudi Arabians called it Shaba which means Ghost in Arabic.  During its top-secret early years, the F-117 was referred to as the Black Jet or The Asset.  Many people referred to the F-117 as the Stealth Fighter until the F-22 went into production.  (Remember that the F-117 was and is actually more of a ground attack aircraft or light bomber.) To me, it looks like an alien aircraft or something from Science Fiction.

It was initially kept primarily at an isolated airbase in Nevada and I think it was used in combat before the public knew anything about its existence.  It must have flown primarily at night back in the early year because the general public knew nothing about it.    It was used in combat at night, hence the black color.

NOTE:  This new drawing, in printable form, can be found by clicking on the "Vehicles and Military Vehicles" button and scrolling down to the bottom of the drop-down menu. Below are older drawings of stealth aircraft.

Baby Jesus says Thank You to the Donkey coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawing is of Baby Jesus thanking the donkey that

carried him and his mother to Bethlehem.

Baby Jesus says Thank You to the Donkey

If  Joseph and Mary had a donkey then Mary probably rode the long trip to Jerusalem from Nazareth.  It is about 90 miles or 145 km.  The journey would have taken several days.  The donkey may also have been carrying food supplies, bedding, and maybe even a tent.  So the donkey would have had quite a workout.

Baby Jesus was probably no ordinary baby.  Before he took on a body He was the creator of the world.  He was the all-powerful Jehovah.  So maybe he would have been able to communicate with the donkey and say thanks.  If you look closely at the drawing you will see that Baby Jesus is the source of the light. . . which is the truth. Jesus is the source of light and truth to us mortals, here on Earth.

One more thing, this is a drawing of the stable in a cave.  Some historians think that the stable where Jesus was born could have been in a cave.  You could color in the ceiling of the cave - probably a darker color.  The ground is strewn with straw.  It could be colored yellow.  The donkey is a Jerusalem Donkey.  They have an extra-long mane that grows far down and along their back to make a cross.

NOTE:  This Christmas drawing is found, in printable form, by clicking on the button labeled Holidays and then scrolling to the bottom of the Christmas drawings.  OR you can click on the Religious button and then scroll down to the end of the New Testament section.  New drawings are put at the bottom of the list.

T. rex and Didelphodon - coloring pages

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawing is of a young T. rex chick

and a Cretaceous mammal called Didlephodon.

T. rex Chick and Didelphodon

Didelphodon was a 1-foot long mammal with a powerful bite for its size.  It lived at the same time as T. rex or Tyrannosaurus rex.  There is good evidence that Theropods like T. rex hatched and were cared for by their parents.  This young Tyrannosaur must be only about 4 feet long.

I have witnessed, in Yellowstone National Park, a scene where ravens local wolf pack that there was an injured elk nearby.  The ravens led the wolves to the elk.  This type of relationship between species is called a symbiotic relationship.  More specifically it is mutualism because both species benefit from the relationship.  The wolves get a meal and the ravens get a meal of leftovers when the wolves are done.

I thought:  What if Didelphodon and Tyrannosaurus rex had a mutualistic relationship?  The Didelphodon pack could keep watch over the Tyrannosaur pack while the Tyrannosaurs slept.  Then when a kill was made the T. rex could bring a bit of meat to the Didelphodon.

NOTE:  This drawing, in printable form, is found by clicking on the button labeled Paleontology. Then scroll down to the bottom of the Mesozoic portion of the list.  Click on the title to get to the printable drawing.  Below is an older drawing of these two animals.

Torvosaurus the huge Allosaur - coloring pages

This is a free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawing is of Torvosaurus.

 Torvosaurus at a Desert Overlook

(new drawing)

Torvosaurus was a huge Jurassic Period predatory Theropod dinosaur.  Some fossil evidence suggests that it may have been  36 feet or 11 meters long.  Some more recent evidence hints that it may have been even bigger.  Torvosaurus has been found in both Europe and the Western USA.

NOTE:  Below are some earlier drawings of Torvosaurus.  For the new drawing in printable form, just click on the Paleontology button and scroll down to the bottom of the Mesozoic section.  New drawings are on the bottom of the correct list.  So the older drawings will be further up the list.
