Teratophoneus curieii

Teratophoneus Pair

Yesterday we went to the  University of Utah's   Rio Tinto   Utah Museum of Natural History.  There was a great temporary exhibit on the Maya Civilization.  They also have some amazing permanent exhibits of prehistoric mammals and dinosaurs etc.  This drawing is based on their pair of Teratophoneus Tyrannosaurs.  The fossils of this dinosaur were found in Southern Utah.

Teratophoneus was probably and ancestor to Tyrannosaurus rex.  It lived 77 to 76 million years ago . . . while T. rex lived 62-65 million years ago.  Both species lived in the Cretaceous Period.  They had powerful bites and small arms and hands with only two claws on each hand.

I want to note that Teratophoneus had a shorter snout than other Tyrannosaurs.  This new drawing probably should have been done with somewhat shorter snout on the dinosaur in the foreground.

The first Teratophoneus fossils that were found were of a sub adult and it was probably about 20 feet long and weighed around 1,500 lbs.  That is about 6 meters and 680 kg.  So we are not sure of how big a full grown one was.  A couple of years ago a fossil of another Teratophoneus was found in Southern Utah in the Kaiparowits Plateau at the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.  .  .  and the fossil was airlifted to the Utah Museum of Natural History.  I do not know if it was an adult.  Maybe the paleontologists there DO know a better estimate of adult size.

The full scientific name of this dino is Teratophoneus curriei.  The Genus name is from Greek.  Teras means monster and phoneus means murderer.   So this animal was a monster murderer.  The species name is after the famous paleontologist Phillip Currie.  He is the curator at the Royal Tyrell Museum in Alberta, Canada.  Dr. Brooks Britt, who helped discover and name the animal was once a student of Dr. Currie.

IN FACT. . . the University of Alberta offers some great courses on Paleontology via Coursera.  So in that sense I also was a student of Dr. Currie.  I highly recommend their online Coursera classes.  I took Palenotology:  Dino 101 Dinosaur Paleobiology,    Paleontology:  Theropod Dinosaurs and the Evolution of Birds,       Paleontolgy: Ancient Marine Reptiles    and Paleontology Early Vertebrate Evolution.

Butterflies inspired by Butterfly Biosphere at Thanksgiving Point

Butterflies from Butterfly Biosphere

Here in Utah, USA we have just got an exhibit called the Butterfly Biosphere.  It is located at t place called Thanksgiving Point.  The butterflies are absolutely beautiful.  My favorite is the Blue Morpho.

There is an excellent movie called Blue Butterfly that is based on true events.  A boy who is suffering from cancer goes to the tropics to see a Blue Morpho.  In reality he did see the Blue Morpho and believe it or not his cancer went into remission.  The boy's real name is David Marenger.  He is now an adult and he is a motivational speaker.   His story is all about how the beauties that God put on this earth for us to enjoy can inspire and heal us.  I truly think that getting out into Nature is a healing experience.  For me it is a psychologically healing experience if nothing else.

My above drawing is more inspired by the butterflies from the Butterfly Biosphere that we saw at the exhibit day before yesterday.  The below following photos were taken there.  Remember that the printable version of my drawing is found by clicking on the   Animals   or    All Printables     buttons up top.  The new drawing is at the bottom of the list of drawings.

Kangaroos in the Australian Bush a salute to: Crikey! It's the Irwins

Kangaroos in the Australian Bush

Kangaroos are like deer in North America.  Of course the kangaroos live in Australia.  Kangaroos are marsupials.  So the babies are the size of a jelly bean or about 1/2 inch or about a centimeter long.  After they are born they crawl along their mother's fur to the pouch where they can nurse and develop.

There are several species of kangaroos.  The Eastern Grey Kangaroo is the biggest at 91 lbs or about 41 kg.  Next is the Antilopine Kangaroo at 45 lbs or about 20 kg.   The Red Kangaroo is about 63 lbs or around 29 kg.  The Western Grey Kangaroo is the smallest at 56 lbs. or about 25 kg.   The Wallaby is related to the kangaroo.  They are much smaller at only about 9 lbs. or 4 kg.

I based part of this drawing on a scene from the excellent TV show that we love on Animal Planet called:  "Crickey!  It's The Irwins.  The Irwins run the Australian Zoo in Queensland Australia.  I plan on doing more drawings from their show.  We binge watched the show last night on Animal Planet.  I hope we can go to their zoo when we go to Australia in July!  We hope to go to Australia, if our health will allow us to.

The printable versions of this drawing are found on the top buttons on this page.  Click on either

I want to note that this blog is non profit.  There are no ads and no fees to print a coloring page.  You DO need to have access to a printer though.  No one makes money on this blog.  It is what I started to do when I became disabled.  I guess you who follow my blog have noticed that sometimes there is a break from posts for a while.  I have severe health problems that sometimes get in the way of drawing or typing on the computer.  In fact the problems make it impossible to use a computer or draw at all sometimes.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Fairy on a Mushroom

Fairy sitting on a Mushroom

Fairies love animals.  Here we see a fairy greeting a snail.  The fairy is resting on a Amanita muscara, a red mushroom with white spots.  The spots are actually much smaller in this red mushroom.  It is native to the Northern Hemisphere but it has been accidentally introduced into the Southern Hemisphere as well.

Fairies are fluent in several languages and you may be surprised that they study Nature.  They refer to plants and animals by the often Latin and or Greek scientific names.  By the way, a Fairy would tell you that this type mushroom is classified as poisonous if you eat it.

This drawing is based on a photo from Facebook. The model is actually not a fairy, she is one of my former science students and she was also my teaching assistant.  She was an awesome worker too.  She is now a talented poet.

Jesus walks on Water during a Storm

Jesus walks on the Water during a Storm

There is a story in the Holy Bible where Jesus walks upon the water.  In the story Jesus has feed thousands miraculously on one side of the Sea of Galilee.  Then he stays on that side for some alone time to pray.  He sends his Disciples to the other side, by boat.

Then when apparently they are trying to come back at night to get Him they see him waling on water.  Then Peter tries to walk on water and is successful at first, but the sea is rough so he gets frightened and starts to sink... so Jesus saves him.  When Jesus gets to the boat the storm or stormy seas immediately calm.

Since Jesus was and is the Son of God and the Creator of the Earth, it makes sense that He could do miracles like walk on water and calm the stormy sea.  Since He made the Earth it would make total sense that He would be able to control the elements of the Earth.  Although His mother was a mortal, Mary, His Father was our Heavenly Father and that made Jesus part mortal and part God.

Because of this dual nature He could suffer and die for our sins and.... His spirit could go back into His body and he could become resurrected.  He had power over life and death.  He was a willing sacrifice for sin, not just a victim of the cruelty of the then leaders of Jerusalem.  People who are not Christians don't understand that.  They think Jesus was a helpless victim.  In fact, Jesus could have used his divine power to stop the crucifixion at any time.  He was an all powerful God.   And again, walking on water shows a bit of His power.

IF your are wondering about the moon and the couple of stars in the drawing. . . the Bible says this happened at night.

T. rex chick in Nest

T. rex chick in Nest

Tyrannosaurus rex was a fierce predator.  T. rex was also almost certainly a caring parent.  They found Theropod eggs in Portugul that showed that the young Theropods were hatched with teeth but they were way too small to take care of themselves in the very dangerous Cretaceous world.
Robert Bakker said that when he thought of T. rex he thought of tenderness and caring parents.

I think we need to look at the term as plural. . . PARENTS vs parent.  The injured T. rex Sue had clearly had a broken leg and had not starved to death.  She never could have hunted to feed herself so it is thought that T. rex probably mated for life and so Sue's mate took care of and fed her for the six weeks it would have taken for her leg to heal.

This would indicate that Tyrannosaurus rex parents probably BOTH took care of and raised the young together.  This would be similar to a lion pride or a wolf pack.  .   .  with a Mesozoic twist.

This is a drawing of the T. rex chick with his or her mother or father.  FYI there is a theory that the females would have been bigger than the males. . . like in modern birds of prey.   They have found evidence that dinosaurs lined their nests with leaves so this T. rex mother or father did just that.

New Tyrannosaur Dynamoterror dynastes

Dynamoterror dynastes

Dynamoterror dynastes is a new discovery from the state of New Mexico, USA.  It was fairly large at 30 feet or about 9 meters long.  It lived earlier than other known precursor Tyrannosaurs like Albertosaurus and Daspleteosaurus.  It lived around 78 to 80 million years ago in the Cretaceous Period.  During this part of the Cretaceous Period in what is now New Mexico the environment was very lush and green.

Dynamoterrro may have been a direct ancestor to T. rex or it may have been from a common ancestor to Tyrannosaurus rex.  Tyrannosaurus was much larger at 40 feet or 12 meters long.  The name of this dinosaur is interesting.   "Dynamo" in Greek means "powerful."   "Terror" is a Latin word.  and the species name of "dynastes" means "ruler."  So Dynamoterror dynastes means Powerful Terror Ruler.

The small Ceratopsian you see in the drawing is another recent discovery from Montana.  It was cow sized and is as yet an unnamed dinosaur with brow horns but no nose horn.  It is not a Zuiniceratops but it is similar.  Zuniceratopos was smaller and lived well before Dynamoterror.  This new find lived at the same time as Dynamoterror. . . albeit in Montana, not New Mexico.   Of course Zuniceratops DID live in New Mexico. . . or it lived in what is now New Mexico.  This new Ceratopsian had sharp bones or mini-horns on its frill, probably for added protection.

There is a University of Utah paleontologist who thinks that sooner or later we will find a T. rex skeleton with evidence of feathers or proto-feathers.  So it is quite possible that Dynamoterror was covered in feathers or proto-feathers. Lythronax, another fairly recent find in Southern Utah also probably DID  have some proto-feathers or feathers.  It was around at the same time as Dynamoterror.  .  . and they were in the same general area of the world.  The name Lythronax means Gore King.

The original fossils or Holotypes of both Lythronax and Dynamoterror are housed at the University of Utah's . . . Natural History Museum of Utah.

Deinonychus and Bennettazhia

Deinonychus and Bennetazhia

Deinonychus was a smaller Theropod dinosaur from the early Creataceous of North America.  It problably hunted in packs and had feathers.  Unlike raptors like Velociraptor or Utahraptor, this dinosaur had a killing claw on the middle toe of each foot and of each hand.  The other later raptors had killing claws on the inside toe of each foot.  Deinonychus lived around 110 million years ago and its fossils have been found in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Oklahoma, USA.

Deinonychus was 11 feet  or 3.4 meters long and weighed over 200 lbs.  That is around 90 kg.   So although I said it was a smaller Theropod, it was not exactly tiny.  It appeared to be sleek with upright posture and clearly was built for speed and killing.  The killing claws on the hands and feet were sickle shaped and obviously deadly.
The full scientific name is Deinonychus antirrhopus.  The first part of a scientific name for an organism is the Genus name and the second part is the species name.  Deinonychus means killing claw and antirrhopus means counter balance because the great paleontologist John Ostrum figured that the tail stuck out to balance the dinosaur as it walked, ran or stood.

John Ostrum started the Dinosaur Revolution with his analysis of this Theropod dinosaur.  He pointed out that Deinonychus was not slow and plodding and stupid.  It clearly was fast and agile and intelligent.  The Dinosaur Revolution was continued by his student, the great Robert Bakker.

The Pterosaur was named Bennettazhia.  It was found in the 1920s by Charles Gilmore.  He thought it was a new species of Pteranodon so he named it Pteranodon oregonensis.  Later, in the late 1980s Chrostopher Bennett determined that it was a type of Azhdarchidae and then a Russian paleontologist, Lev Nesov, named it after Bennett.

Later CT scans showed that this Pterosaur had the body structure to launch itself off the ground.  This revolutionized our understanding of Pterosaurs.  When I was a boy I learned that Pterosaurs could only glide and had to climb up high to start to fly.  That is now an outdated idea.

Bennettazhia (oringinally Pteranodon oregonensis) had a wingspan of 13 feet or 4 meters.  So it was not a small animal.  The one in the drawing is clearly in the background and a ways away in the distance.  Its wingspan would have been wider than Deinonychus was long.

You might have noticed the unusual plants in the Deinonychus and Bennettazhia drawing.  Those odd looking plants were from the Cretaceous Period.  I do not know if they were from the early Cretaceous though.   The animals are both from the same region of Early Cretaceous North America.

Deinonychus was related to the earlier dinosaur Microraptor.  Microraptor could fly but Deinonycus clearly could not, however, the connection is strong enough that most paleontologists figure that Deinonychus had feathers.

I also should mention that Deinonychus was found with 3 specimens around an apparently killed prey species that had fought back and killed three of the Deinonychus pack.  The brain cavity was large in Deinonychus and it had forward facing eyes like many modern predators.

Microraptor flying through the Forest
(This is an older drawing so it is higher up in the list of printable drawings.)
(Printable version of the new drawing are at the bottom of the list under the
Paleontology or All Printables button up at the top of the blog.)

One final note:  I got the idea for this drawing from an excellent drawing by Robert Bakker, done when he was John Ostrum's student.   He did his drawing before we knew about so many Theropod dinosaurs having feathers.  So in his drawing the Deinonychus does not have feathers, but mine does.

Fairies can change sizes!

Fairy by Stream... Mortal Sized

Fairies are magical beings and as such they are capable of changing sizes.  They are usually in their small or diminutive size.  They can and do change to the size of us mortals from time to time.  The Fairy in these pictures is mortal sized and then it transformed back into diminutive size.  You will notice that the popping sound that happens when they change size scared away the butterfly that the female  Fairy was watching.

Fairy by Stream... Diminutive Sized

Artist Note: I drew this from a photo.  The model for this was a young adolescent girl who lives near us.  As I drew this drawing I decided to add some age to the fairy.  This is not how the model looks.  But it is possibly how she will look in a few years.  Of course she probably won't have the cool looking wings.  I should also mention that these wings are modeled after the Lacewing insect's wings.   Remember that printable versions are found by clicking on the correct button up top.  That is two buttons in this case:  All Printables    and    Fantasy Myths and Circus.

Jesus Ordains Nephi, one of HIs 12 Disciples in the New World

Jesus ordains Nephi... one of His Disciples in the New World

After His resurrection in the Old World, Jesus appeared to His people in the New World. . . somewhere in the Americas.  He chose 12 Disciples to minister to the people.  We learn about this event in the Book of Mormon in 3rd Nephi, chapters 11-26.  The lead Disciple was named Nephi.

Note:  This drawing has shadows that are all based on the resurrected Jesus being the source of all Light.  This is symbolic.  Of course we members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints believe that Jesus Christ is indeed the Light of the World.  His atonement pays the price for our sins so that we can repent.  We ALL need to repent.  The Holy Bible says that all fall short of the Glory of God.  So when we repent the eternal price for our sins is paid for by the suffering and death of Jesus Christ.  This is what we call the Atonement of Christ.  To repent we must recognize that we have done wrong... feel sorrow... make restitution if possible... and confess serious sins to our ecclesiastical leader... and of course we must endeavor to never commit that sin again.  One more thing. . . we must forgive others their trespasses against us for Jesus and our Heavenly Father to forgive us of our sins.

Amazing Nodosaur Discovery in Canada called Borealopelta markmitchelii

Borealopelta markmitchelii

At a rock quarry a heavy equipment operator found some evidence of a fossil so he called the Royal Tyrell Museum and they managed to excavate an amazing dinosaur.  It was a Nodosaur, which is a kind of Ankylosaur without a club on its tail.  It was more than just fossilized bones.  It turns out that the entire dinosaur was fossilized!  Skin, organs, everything!

It lived in a part of Western Canada that during the Cretaceous Period was full of rivers.
It is thought that it must have died or maybe drown and was washed into the ocean.  It was found in shale, which is a rock that forms from shallow ocean sediment.  The dinosaur died, was washed downstream, and was covered in sediment quickly and so the entire animal was fossilized!

Paleontologists at the museum were considering cutting into the fossil, but they realized that it was so well fossilized that it would wreck the fossil.  Essentially it all turned to stone so it is a huge dinosaur shaped boulder.

It will be or is on display at the Royal Tyrell Museum east of Calgary Canada in the province of Alberta.

Nodosaurs were squat animals built like a tank.  They had spikes in various places and they had thick scale-like armor called osteoderms.  The scales are so think that even a Tyrannosaur could not bite through it.  Even their eyelids were armored!  I think that Nodosaurs look a lot like a giant horned lizard that we used to call a horny toad.  Many of this Nodosaur's osteoderms were still coated with a keratin sheath and that is a very rare find.

Horned Lizard or Horny Toad

This new Nodosaur weighed around 3,000 lbs (1,361 kg) and was up to 18 (5.5 meters) feet long.  It lived in the mid Cretaceous period around 111 years ago. It received its official scientific name in 2017 and it is called Borealopelta markmitchelii.   The species name is after Mark Mitchell, a technician who chipped the rock away over several years to reveal the amazing complete dinosaur!

Gardening Fairy

Gardening Fairy

You may not know that Fairies can turn full size when they need to.  In fact, they can turn 1/2 sized or 3/4 size too.  This is a Gardening Fairy and being 1/2 size helps her work go faster.  Being full mortal size would be too big.  She is about as big as a mortal 3rd grader.  That would be around 8 or 9 years old for a mortal child.  Of course most mortals can not see Fairies so she is still hidden as she cares for the flowers of the forest.  This Fairy has just planted a marigold and added fertilizer.  She has been working for a while so she got a little bit dirty.  Notice her dirty hands, feet arms, legs, and face.  Of course she can use magic to clean herself up, but maybe getting dirty is half the fun!  Remember that some cultures think it is good luck to see a Fairy!

As far as us mortal, we also should do some kind of gardening when we can.  Exposure to the bacteria in the soil builds immunity.  For children it is educational as they see how food or flowers are grown and cared for.  For many adults it is cathartic and helps them unwind and relax.  As a small space gardener I prefer to plant veggies.  There is nothing as tasty as your own, home grown tomatoes or jalapeno peppers.  Finally, as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I remember, when I was a boy, that our prophet, Spencer W. Kimball, advised us all to raise a garden if we could.  He said it was good to keep in touch with the soil.

Samuel the Lamanite

Samuel the Lamanite

Samuel the Lamanite was a prophet who was shut out of the city of Zerahemla.  The wicked Nephites tried to kill him but the Lord protected his prophet.   Samuel was prophesying about the birth of the Savior.  He told them that there would be a new star and that it would be as bright as day during the night.  After delivering his message the prophet jumped down from the wall  fled into his own country.  A few years later the prophecy came true.  There was, in the Western Hemisphere, a day and a night and a day as if there were no night.
I see some problems with this drawing so I plan on redoing it in a few days.   I memorized part of this speech when I was 18.  It is found in The Book of Mormon.  In the book of Heleman in chapter 13-15:

And he said unto them: Behold, I, Samuel, a Lamanite, do speak the words of the Lord which he doth put into my heart; and behold he hath put it into my heart to say unto this people that the sword of justice hangeth over this people; and four hundred years pass not away save the sword of justice falleth upon this people.
Yea, heavy destruction awaiteth this people, and it surely cometh unto this people, and nothing can save this people save it be repentance and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ, who surely shall come into the world, and shall suffer many things and shall be slain for his people.
And behold, an angel of the Lord hath declared it unto me, and he did bring glad tidings to my soul. And behold, I was sent unto you to declare it unto you also, that ye might have glad tidings; but behold ye would not receive me.
Therefore, thus saith the Lord: Because of the hardness of the hearts of the people of the Nephites, except they repent I will take away my word from them, and I will withdraw my Spirit from them, and I will suffer them no longer, and I will turn the hearts of their brethren against them.
And four hundred years shall not pass away before I will cause that they shall be smitten; yea, I will visit them with the sword and with famine and with pestilence.
10 Yea, I will visit them in my fierce anger, and there shall be those of the fourth generation who shall live, of your enemies, to behold your utter destruction; and this shall surely come except ye repent, saith the Lord; and those of the fourth generation shall visit your destruction.
11 But if ye will repent and return unto the Lord your God I will turn away mine anger, saith the Lord; yea, thus saith the Lord, blessed are they who will repent and turn unto me, but wo unto him that repenteth not.
12 Yea, wo unto this great city of Zarahemla; for behold, it is because of those who are righteous that it is saved; yea, wo unto this great city, for I perceive, saith the Lord, that there are many, yea, even the more part of this great city, that will harden their hearts against me, saith the Lord.
13 But blessed are they who will repent, for them will I spare. But behold, if it were not for the righteous who are in this great city, behold, I would cause that fire should come down out of heaven and destroy it.
14 But behold, it is for the righteous’ sake that it is spared. But behold, the time cometh, saith the Lord, that when ye shall cast out the righteous from among you, then shall ye be ripe for destruction; yea, wo be unto this great city, because of the wickedness and abominations which are in her.
15 Yea, and wo be unto the city of Gideon, for the wickedness and abominations which are in her.
16 Yea, and wo be unto all the cities which are in the land round about, which are possessed by the Nephites, because of the wickedness and abominations which are in them.
17 And behold, a curse shall come upon the land, saith the Lord of Hosts, because of the people’s sake who are upon the land, yea, because of their wickedness and their abominations.
18 And it shall come to pass, saith the Lord of Hosts, yea, our great and true God, that whoso shall hide up treasures in the earth shall find them again no more, because of the great curse of the land, save he be a righteous man and shall hide it up unto the Lord.
19 For I will, saith the Lord, that they shall hide up their treasuresunto me; and cursed be they who hide not up their treasures unto me; for none hideth up their treasures unto me save it be the righteous; and he that hideth not up his treasures unto me, cursed is he, and also the treasure, and none shall redeem it because of the curse of the land.
20 And the day shall come that they shall hide up their treasures, because they have set their hearts upon riches; and because they have set their hearts upon their riches, and will hide up their treasures when they shall flee before their enemies; because they will not hide them up unto me, cursed be they and also their treasures; and in that day shall they be smitten, saith the Lord.
21 Behold ye, the people of this great city, and hearken unto my words; yea, hearken unto the words which the Lord saith; for behold, he saith that ye are cursed because of your riches, and also are your riches cursed because ye have set your hearts upon them, and have not hearkened unto the words of him who gave them unto you.
22 Ye do not remember the Lord your God in the things with which he hath blessed you, but ye do always remember your riches, not to thank the Lord your God for them; yea, your hearts are not drawn out unto the Lord, but they do swell with great pride, unto boasting, and unto great swelling, envyings, strifes, malice, persecutions, and murders, and all manner of iniquities.
23 For this cause hath the Lord God caused that a curse should come upon the land, and also upon your riches, and this because of your iniquities.
24 Yea, wo unto this people, because of this time which has arrived, that ye do cast out the prophets, and do mock them, and cast stones at them, and do slay them, and do all manner of iniquity unto them, even as they did of old time.
25 And now when ye talk, ye say: If our days had been in the days of our fathers of old, we would not have slain the prophets; we would not have stoned them, and cast them out.
26 Behold ye are worse than they; for as the Lord liveth, if a prophet come among you and declareth unto you the word of the Lord, which testifieth of your sins and iniquities, ye are angrywith him, and cast him out and seek all manner of ways to destroy him; yea, you will say that he is a false prophet, and that he is a sinner, and of the devil, because he testifieth that your deeds are evil.
27 But behold, if a man shall come among you and shall say: Do this, and there is no iniquity; do that and ye shall not suffer; yea, he will say: Walk after the pride of your own hearts; yea, walk after the pride of your eyes, and do whatsoever your heart desireth—and if a man shall come among you and say this, ye will receive him, and say that he is a prophet.
28 Yea, ye will lift him up, and ye will give unto him of your substance; ye will give unto him of your gold, and of your silver, and ye will clothe him with costly apparel; and because he speaketh flattering words unto you, and he saith that all is well, then ye will not find fault with him.
29 O ye wicked and ye perverse generation; ye hardened and ye stiffnecked people, how long will ye suppose that the Lord will suffer you? Yea, how long will ye suffer yourselves to be led by foolish and blind guides? Yea, how long will ye choose darkness rather than light?
30 Yea, behold, the anger of the Lord is already kindled against you; behold, he hath cursed the land because of your iniquity.
31 And behold, the time cometh that he curseth your riches, that they become slippery, that ye cannot hold them; and in the days of your poverty ye cannot retain them.
32 And in the days of your poverty ye shall cry unto the Lord; and in vain shall ye cry, for your desolation is already come upon you, and your destruction is made sure; and then shall ye weep and howl in that day, saith the Lord of Hosts. And then shall ye lament, and say:
33 O that I had repented, and had not killed the prophets, and stoned them, and cast them out. Yea, in that day ye shall say: O that we had remembered the Lord our God in the day that he gave us our riches, and then they would not have become slippery that we should lose them; for behold, our riches are gone from us.
34 Behold, we lay a tool here and on the morrow it is gone; and behold, our swords are taken from us in the day we have sought them for battle.
35 Yea, we have hid up our treasures and they have slipped away from us, because of the curse of the land.
36 O that we had repented in the day that the word of the Lord came unto us; for behold the land is cursed, and all things are become slippery, and we cannot hold them.
37 Behold, we are surrounded by demons, yea, we are encircled about by the angels of him who hath sought to destroy our souls. Behold, our iniquities are great. O Lord, canst thou not turn away thine anger from us? And this shall be your language in those days.
38 But behold, your days of probation are past; ye have procrastinated the day of your salvation until it is everlastingly too late, and your destruction is made sure; yea, for ye have sought all the days of your lives for that which ye could not obtain; and ye have sought for happiness in doing iniquity, which thing is contrary to the nature of that righteousness which is in our great and Eternal Head.
39 O ye people of the land, that ye would hear my words! And I pray that the anger of the Lord be turned away from you, and that ye would repent and be saved.

Heleman Chapter 14
And now it came to pass that Samuel, the Lamanite, did prophesy a great many more things which cannot be written.
And behold, he said unto them: Behold, I give unto you a sign; for five years more cometh, and behold, then cometh the Son of God to redeem all those who shall believe on his name.
And behold, this will I give unto you for a sign at the time of his coming; for behold, there shall be great lights in heaven, insomuch that in the night before he cometh there shall be no darkness, insomuch that it shall appear unto man as if it was day.
Therefore, there shall be one day and a night and a day, as if it were one day and there were no night; and this shall be unto you for a sign; for ye shall know of the rising of the sun and also of its setting; therefore they shall know of a surety that there shall be two days and a night; nevertheless the night shall not be darkened; and it shall be the night before he is born.
And behold, there shall a new star arise, such an one as ye never have beheld; and this also shall be a sign unto you.
And behold this is not all, there shall be many signs and wonders in heaven.
And it shall come to pass that ye shall all be amazed, and wonder, insomuch that ye shall fall to the earth.
And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall believe on the Son of God, the same shall have everlasting life.
And behold, thus hath the Lord commanded me, by his angel, that I should come and tell this thing unto you; yea, he hath commanded that I should prophesy these things unto you; yea, he hath said unto me: Cry unto this people, repent and prepare the way of the Lord.
10 And now, because I am a Lamanite, and have spoken unto you the words which the Lord hath commanded me, and because it was hard against you, ye are angry with me and do seek to destroy me, and have cast me out from among you.
11 And ye shall hear my words, for, for this intent have I come up upon the walls of this city, that ye might hear and know of the judgments of God which do await you because of your iniquities, and also that ye might know the conditions of repentance;
12 And also that ye might know of the coming of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and of earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning; and that ye might know of the signs of his coming, to the intent that ye might believe on his name.
13 And if ye believe on his name ye will repent of all your sins, that thereby ye may have a remission of them through his merits.
14 And behold, again, another sign I give unto you, yea, a sign of his death.
15 For behold, he surely must die that salvation may come; yea, it behooveth him and becometh expedient that he dieth, to bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, that thereby men may be brought into the presence of the Lord.
16 Yea, behold, this death bringeth to pass the resurrection, and redeemeth all mankind from the first death—that spiritual death; for all mankind, by the fall of Adam being cut off from the presence of the Lord, are considered as dead, both as to things temporal and to things spiritual.
17 But behold, the resurrection of Christ redeemeth mankind, yea, even all mankind, and bringeth them back into the presence of the Lord.
18 Yea, and it bringeth to pass the condition of repentance, that whosoever repenteth the same is not hewn down and cast into the fire; but whosoever repenteth not is hewn down and cast into the fire; and there cometh upon them again a spiritual death, yea, a second death, for they are cut off again as to things pertaining to righteousness.
19 Therefore repent ye, repent ye, lest by knowing these things and not doing them ye shall suffer yourselves to come under condemnation, and ye are brought down unto this second death.
20 But behold, as I said unto you concerning another sign, a sign of his death, behold, in that day that he shall suffer death the sun shall be darkened and refuse to give his light unto you; and also the moon and the stars; and there shall be no light upon the face of this land, even from the time that he shall suffer death, for the space of three days, to the time that he shall rise again from the dead.
21 Yea, at the time that he shall yield up the ghost there shall be thunderings and lightnings for the space of many hours, and the earth shall shake and tremble; and the rocks which are upon the face of this earth, which are both above the earth and beneath, which ye know at this time are solid, or the more part of it is one solid mass, shall be broken up;
22 Yea, they shall be rent in twain, and shall ever after be found in seams and in cracks, and in broken fragments upon the face of the whole earth, yea, both above the earth and beneath.
23 And behold, there shall be great tempests, and there shall be many mountains laid low, like unto a valley, and there shall be many places which are now called valleys which shall become mountains, whose height is great.
24 And many highways shall be broken up, and many cities shall become desolate.
25 And many graves shall be opened, and shall yield up many of their dead; and many saints shall appear unto many.
26 And behold, thus hath the angel spoken unto me; for he said unto me that there should be thunderings and lightnings for the space of many hours.
27 And he said unto me that while the thunder and the lightning lasted, and the tempest, that these things should be, and that darkness should cover the face of the whole earth for the space of three days.
28 And the angel said unto me that many shall see greater things than these, to the intent that they might believe that these signsand these wonders should come to pass upon all the face of this land, to the intent that there should be no cause for unbelief among the children of men—
29 And this to the intent that whosoever will believe might be saved, and that whosoever will not believe, a righteous judgment might come upon them; and also if they are condemned they bring upon themselves their own condemnation.
30 And now remember, remember, my brethren, that whosoever perisheth, perisheth unto himself; and whosoever doeth iniquity, doeth it unto himself; for behold, ye are free; ye are permitted to act for yourselves; for behold, God hath given unto you a knowledge and he hath made you free.
31 He hath given unto you that ye might know good from evil, and he hath given unto you that ye might choose life or death; and ye can do good and be restored unto that which is good, or have that which is good restored unto you; or ye can do evil, and have that which is evil restored unto you.

Heleman Chapter 15

And now, my beloved brethren, behold, I declare unto you that except ye shall repent your houses shall be left unto you desolate.
Yea, except ye repent, your women shall have great cause to mourn in the day that they shall give suck; for ye shall attempt to flee and there shall be no place for refuge; yea, and wo unto them which are with child, for they shall be heavy and cannot flee; therefore, they shall be trodden down and shall be left to perish.
Yea, wo unto this people who are called the people of Nephi except they shall repent, when they shall see all these signs and wonders which shall be showed unto them; for behold, they have been a chosen people of the Lord; yea, the people of Nephi hath he loved, and also hath he chastened them; yea, in the days of their iniquities hath he chastened them because he loveth them.
But behold my brethren, the Lamanites hath he hated because their deeds have been evil continually, and this because of the iniquity of the tradition of their fathers. But behold, salvation hath come unto them through the preaching of the Nephites; and for this intent hath the Lord prolonged their days.
And I would that ye should behold that the more part of them are in the path of their duty, and they do walk circumspectly before God, and they do observe to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments according to the law of Moses.
Yea, I say unto you, that the more part of them are doing this, and they are striving with unwearied diligence that they may bring the remainder of their brethren to the knowledge of the truth; therefore there are many who do add to their numbers daily.
And behold, ye do know of yourselves, for ye have witnessed it, that as many of them as are brought to the knowledge of the truth, and to know of the wicked and abominable traditions of their fathers, and are led to believe the holy scriptures, yea, the prophecies of the holy prophets, which are written, which leadeth them to faith on the Lord, and unto repentance, which faith and repentance bringeth a change of heart unto them—
Therefore, as many as have come to this, ye know of yourselves are firm and steadfast in the faith, and in the thing wherewith they have been made free.
And ye know also that they have buried their weapons of war, and they fear to take them up lest by any means they should sin; yea, ye can see that they fear to sin—for behold they will suffer themselves that they be trodden down and slain by their enemies, and will not lift their swords against them, and this because of their faith in Christ.
10 And now, because of their steadfastness when they do believe in that thing which they do believe, for because of their firmness when they are once enlightened, behold, the Lord shall bless them and prolong their days, notwithstanding their iniquity—
11 Yea, even if they should dwindle in unbelief the Lord shall prolong their days, until the time shall come which hath been spoken of by our fathers, and also by the prophet Zenos, and many other prophets, concerning the restoration of our brethren, the Lamanites, again to the knowledge of the truth—
12 Yea, I say unto you, that in the latter times the promises of the Lord have been extended to our brethren, the Lamanites; and notwithstanding the many afflictions which they shall have, and notwithstanding they shall be driven to and fro upon the face of the earth, and be hunted, and shall be smitten and scattered abroad, having no place for refuge, the Lord shall be mercifulunto them.
13 And this is according to the prophecy, that they shall again be brought to the true knowledge, which is the knowledge of their Redeemer, and their great and true shepherd, and be numbered among his sheep.
14 Therefore I say unto you, it shall be better for them than for you except ye repent.
15 For behold, had the mighty works been shown unto them which have been shown unto you, yea, unto them who have dwindled in unbelief because of the traditions of their fathers, ye can see of yourselves that they never would again have dwindled in unbelief.
16 Therefore, saith the Lord: I will not utterly destroy them, but I will cause that in the day of my wisdom they shall return again unto me, saith the Lord.
17 And now behold, saith the Lord, concerning the people of the Nephites: If they will not repent, and observe to do my will, I will utterly destroy them, saith the Lord, because of their unbelief notwithstanding the many mighty works which I have done among them; and as surely as the Lord liveth shall these things be, saith the Lord.
