Today's new drawing
is a Mermaid basking on a rock
with a Waved Albatross flying nearby.
Mermaid with a Waved Albatross
This Mermaid, named Coraline, is living in the tropical waters around the Galapagos Islands. She is basking in the sun and one of her friends, a Waved Albatross, is flying over for a visit. You might be surprised to know that Mermaids are closely related to Fairies. Mermaids have special lungs that can extract oxygen from water. They don't have gills, like a fish, they just have adaptive lungs. Their lungs can also extract oxygen from the atmosphere, like mortal lungs.
Notice the small trident. Her trident is actually a type of magic wand. Some Mermaids and Mermen use larger tridents, but the small tridents are still very powerful. Coraline is wearing a top of sewed kelp leaves.
The Waved Albatross is a beautiful and very large bird. It nests in the Galapagos Islands. The male and female have a unique mating dance that my wife and I have witnessed. See the below photo from our trip to the Galapagos Islands in 2016.

Below are a few more Mermaid drawings from former posts. Some of these older drawings are more cartoony. And some of the drawings are more realistic.
