Today's new drawing is an
Antarctic dinosaur called Trinisaura.
Trinisaura an Antarctic Herbivorous Dinosaur
Trinisaura was a small Ornithopod dinosaur from the mid-Cretaceous Period. It lived in what is now Antarctica. This may surprise you, but Antarctica was a rain forest at the time. Earth was much warmer back in the Cretaceous. There were no polar ice caps.
Trinisaura was a relatively small herbivore, for a dinosaur. It was an ornithopod. Later ornithopods included the duck-billed dinosaurs and some of them were 40 feet or about 12 meters long. Trinisaura was about 5 feet or 1.5 meters long.
Since winters could get pretty cold, even back then, there is a good possibility that Trinisaura was covered in feathers. They were almost certainly protofeathers that were for temperature control, not flying. It is thought that Trinisaura lived between 85 and 71 million years ago.
NOTE: This drawing, in printable form, can be found by clicking on the Paleontology button up top. Then remember to scroll down to the bottom of the list of drawings... for the new drawing. There are a few more Ornithopod dinosaurs below. Since they are from older posts they will be further up the list of drawings.
