Nia and Ya'eel from the book: Wind of Choice Unexpected Heroes - fan art coloring page

I am currently reading a book called
Wind of Change - Unexpected Heroes
This drawing is based on some of the characters of this excellent fantasy novel.

Nia and Ya'eel (& Ahjin)

Nia and Ya'eel are characters in the book: Wind of Change - Unexpected Heroes.  The book is a fantasy and it is about people on a planet that has several types of people.  There are water dwellers, like Nia, seen in the drawing with long hair.  Her friend is a dolphin named Ya'eel.  The flying person is Ahjin and his people are people of the air. . . they can fly.

Nia and Ahjin set out on an interesting quest to save the gods.  The fact that they are very different is quite interesting.  They are joined by other "people" who have their own unique characteristics.  I am still reading the book, but I liked the characters so much that I drew this drawing.

Some of the sea life in the drawing include:  a squid, a jellyfish, a sea anemone along with 2 clownfish, a couple of coral, a stand of kelp, a sardine, and a parrotfish.  There are other sea life as well.

Look closely at Nia's visible hand.  She has webbed hands AND webbed feet.  She also has a gill on each side of her neck. But she does not have a large tailfin like a mermaid.  I like this idea of a sea-dwelling people who have webbed hands and feet but are not merpeople.

This drawing can be found, in printable form, by clicking on the button up top labeled: Fantasy, Myths and Circus.  Then scroll down to the bottom of the list for this new drawing.

T. rex Cartoon Drawings to Color

Welcome to my Free Coloring Pages Blog!

There are over 1000 free to print drawings.

Today's new drawing is of a mommy T. rex and her chicks.

Mommy T. rex and Chicks

This top drawing is the new drawing today.  It is a cartoon drawing for younger kids to color.  Note that there are still scientific facts that are illustrated in the drawing.  Mommy T. rex has shorter teeth in front.  Her front teeth were for ripping meat off of the bone.  The back teeth had a different purpose - to crush bone!  There is also evidence that large Theropod dinosaurs, like Tyrannosaurus rex, cared for their young.  Baby Theropod skeletons showed that at hatching the chicks had tiny sharp teeth, but the baby dinosaurs were quite small and never could have survived on their own.

NOTE:  The drawings, in printable form, are found by clicking on the button up top labeled "Paleontology."  Remember to scroll down to the bottom of the "Mesozoic" section of the list for the new drawing.  Below are a few other T. rex drawings for younger kids to color.  The below drawings were posted previously so they will be further up the list of drawings.

T. rex Mother carries Chick
(I'll admit that his one is less of a cartoon drawing and more realistic.)

(I'll admit, this one is also less of a cartoon drawing.)

Brontopodus - The Huge Sauropod known only from Footprints Re-Posting in English - coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.
Today's new drawing is of a huge Sauropod that is only known from its unique footprints.
There are over 1000 free coloring pages on this blog.
NOTE to English readers:   I will be posting this in multiple languages...
because Brontopodus tracks were found in multiple countries.
This is the reposting in English.
Scroll down to read it in Chinese, Portuguese, Korean, and French.

Brontopodus by a River

Brontopodus is known from footprints in many parts of the world.  It has been named its own Genus because the manus or front footprints have 4 toes on each foot (hand).  There are no known Sauropods that had 4 toes on their front feet.  All known Sauropods had 3 toes on their manus or front feet.  This led to the identification of the new Genus.  There are apparently two species of Brontopodus known. Brontopodus birdi or birdii is the name for the species found along the East Coast, Gulf Coast, and in Texas, USA.  Brontopodus plagnensis is known from many tracks in France.

Brontopodus tracks are found in Korea and in France.  Large fossilized Sauropod footprints in Australia, the USA, Portugal, Switzerland, and China also seem to be from Brontopodus.  This is very interesting because the multiple sites indicate that this huge animal was very successful and spread to many parts of the planet.  Of course, the continents were more connected then than they are now.  But how is it that we humans have yet to find a fossilized Brontopodus skeleton when it lived all over the world?  Where are the fossilized skeletons of Brontopodus?

Species that are known from only trace fossils like footprints are called "ichnospecies."  By the way, "Brontopodus" means "Thunder Foot!"  (or maybe thunder feet)  Bronto in Greek means thunder and pod means foot.  Perhaps the paleontologist who named this dinosaur was thinking of Brotonsaurus (that means thunder lizard).  But Brontosaurus' name has been replaced by Apatosaurus.  Now we can think of this 37 ton monster as walking and the sound their feet made would be like thunder.  Sauropods are known to have lived in herds.  Imagine a whole herd of these huge dinosaurs walking by.  It would sound like thunder!

Brontopodus was a very BIG dinosaur.  It was a type of Sauropod.  Sauropods were the long-necked dinosaurs that grew to enormous sizes. Based on the size of the footprints, and the estimation of similar-sized Diplodocids, (like Diplodocus) it is thought that Brontopodus was around 87 feet or 26.5 meters long.  It is estimated that Brontopodus weighed around 37 tons.

Some Brontopodus footprints had fossilized bird tracks around them so the drawing has birds and Pterosaurs.  (Yes there were birds around in the Late Jurassic Period.)  The bird tracks could have been made by species like Archaeopteryx or Caihong. Brontopodus lived in the late Jurassic and possibly even into the Early Cretaceous Period.  That would be around 150 up to 110 million years ago.

The longest ever found fossilized Sauropod dinosaur tracks are in France near the village of Plagne in the Jura mountains.  They are tracks made by Brontopodus plagnensis. The tracks are around 150 meters or 492 feet long.  Of course, each footprint is not that big.  The footprints just go on and on for 150 meters.  The dinosaur walked in mud and left footprints and the mud turned to stone so we have the trace fossils.

This drawing, in printable form, can be found by clicking on the button labeled "Paleontology."  Then scroll down to the bottom of the section labeled "Mesozoic Drawings" ...for this new drawing.  It will be listed in the "Mesozoic Era" drawings. But click on the button labeled . . . .  Paleontology.

(Chinese) Brontopodus - Sauropod know only from Footprints - Re-posting

Brontopodus by a River

也许命名这种恐龙的古生物学家正在考虑Brotonsaurus(这意味着雷霆蜥蜴)。

Brontopodus-um enorme saurópode conhecido apenas por pegadas (Portuguese) Brontopodus - Sauropod known from Footprints

Brontopodus por um rio

Brontopodus by a River

Isto levou à identificação do novo gênero.

(Sim, havia pássaros no período Jurássico tardio.

As pegadas continuam a 150 metros.

Brontopodus by a River

. . . Paléontologie. . . . ou . . . Paleontology.

Brontopodus - The Huge Sauropod known only from Footprints - coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.
Today's new drawing is of a huge Sauropod that is only known from its unique footprints.
There are over 1000 free coloring pages on this blog.
NOTE to English readers:   I will be posting this in multiple languages...
because Brontopodus tracks were found in multiple countries.
I will repost this in English.

Ordosipterus, a Chinese Pterosaur out Fishing - coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

There are over 1000 free to print coloring pages!

Today's new drawing is a Pterosaur found in China that is called:  Ordorsipterus.

Ordosipterus Fishing

Ordosipterus was a small Pterosaur from what is now China.  It is difficult to estimate its wingspan but perhaps around 18 inches to maybe 2 feet.  So that would be between 46 and 61 cm.  Its jaw was found and it was around 3 inches long. That is over 7 cm. So we know it was a fairly small Pterosaur since some Pterosaurs had a wingspan of 35 feet.

Ordorsipterus lived in the mid to early Cretaceous.  It was certainly a fish eater, like most Pterosaurs probably were.  The fish in the drawing ARE Cretaceous Period fish.  The smaller one is called:  Osmeroides mantelli.  The bigger fish is a Beryx lewesiensis.  By the way, the full scientific name of this Pterosaur is:  Ordosipterus planignathus

NOTE:  This drawing is available, in printable form, by clicking on the button labeled:  Paleontology.  Then you will need to scroll down to the bottom of the list of printable drawings.  Only in this case you need to go through the Paleontology page and stop at the bottom of the "Mesozoic" section.

Nasutoceratops a Ceratopsian Dinosaur from Southern Utah - coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

Today's new drawing is a Nasutoceratops from Southern Utah.

There are over 1000 free to print coloring pages on this blog!

Nasutoceratops

Nasutoceratops was a Ceratopsian dinosaur from the Campian stage of the Late Cretaceous Period which is about 75 million years ago.  It lived in what is now Southern Utah.  (Things were a lot greener down there back then.)  It was around 25 feet long.  That is 7.5 meters long.  It weighed around 1.5 tons.  It had a large nose but no nose horn.  Its brow horns curved out towards the side before they curved and faced forward.  It looked much like a Triceratops, but without the nose horn.  Nasutoceratops also lived several million years before Triceratops.  It lived with animals like Parasaurolophus and Pteranodon.  Both are in the drawing.

Nsutoceratops was found in the Kaiparowitz formation in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.  It was discovered in 2006.

NOTE:  This drawing, in printable form, can be found by clicking on the button labeled "Paleontology."  Then scroll down to the bottom of the list of drawings for this new drawing.

Teratophoneus from Natural History Museum of Utah - coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawing is of two Theropod dinosaurs called Teratophoneus.

There are some older drawings of Teratophoneus as well.

Teratophoneus from Natural History Museum of Utah

(new drawing)

Teratophoneus fossils were found in three of places in Utah.  One was a sub-adult or juvenile and the other was a full-grown adult.  At the Natural History Museum of Utah, these two individuals are displayed.  I took a photo of the exhibit and decided to draw the dinosaurs in that position... only with flesh on the bones.  The photo is below.  In the exhibit and in my newest drawing, the two Teratophoneus are running towards us.

Photo of Teratophoneus skeletons from:
Rio Tinto Natural History Museum of Utah

(located at the University of Utah)

Teratophoneus was a large Theropod dinosaur that lived in the Cretaceous Period . . . about 75 million years ago.  The first specimen found was a sub-adult or juvenile.  It was about 21 feet long or 6.4 meters long.  It weighed about 1500 lbs.  The adults were considerably bigger.  The first Teratophoneus was found and named by paleontologists of Brigham Young University... including Brooks Britt.  The last specimen of Teratophoneus was found in 2017 and was airlifted from the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument by helicopter to the Natural History Museum of Utah... which is part of the University of Utah.  Teratophoneus means:  Monster murderer.  The correct scientific name is:  Teratophoneus curiei.  The species name honors the great modern paleontologist Phillip Curie from Alberta, Canada.

The other animals in the drawing are a Pterosaur called Pteranodon.  The other animal is a prey species called Parasaurolophus.

These drawings can be found by clicking on the "Paleontology" button found at the top of this blog page.  Shen scroll down to the bottom of the list for the new drawing.  The older drawings are found further up the list.  Below are some older Teratophoneus drawings that were done and posted previously.   Have fun coloring!

Teraptophoneus Sub-Adult Feeding
Note that there is a Parasaurolophus in this older drawing and in the new drawing.
Parasaurolophus lived at the same time and in the same environment with Teratophoneus.

Teratophoneus and Young
Note that in this drawing Teratophoneus has feathers.
There is some thought that all Theropods had feathers...
including all Tyrannosaurs like Teratophoneus.

Teratophoneus Pair

This drawing is also based on the exhibit at the University of Utah's

Rio Tinto Natural History Museum of Utah.

There are no ads and no fee to print pictures to color from this blog.

Today I am introducing a new button called "People & Portraits."

This category of printable drawings is for portraits and other contemporary people drawings.

The first portrait I will put on that list will be Zack.

Zack was a young man who I knew who recently passed away.

His family is in our prayers.

Zack

We believe that after we die our spirit goes to a place called the Spirit World.  There we are able to continue our existence in spirit form.  We do not cease to exist when we die.  We just move on in the next step of our eternal journey.  I personally believe that we will be able to continue to progress in our eternal journey when we are in the Spirit World.  We are very sad when someone passes on too early, but we know that they are with loved ones on the other side of the veil.  They are taken care of. Eventually we will all be blessed to be resurrected.  Then our immortal spirit will be united with an immortal body and we will never suffer from illness again.  We will be able to dwell with our loved ones for eternity.

To find this drawing, in printable form, just click on the new button up top labeled:  "People & Portraits."  This will be the first drawing on the list of printable drawings under the "People & Portraits" button.

God bless you Zack.

Mandilyn and Mandia -- Elf and Fairy coloring pages

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.

Today I am posting one new drawing and re-posting two new drawings.

All three drawings are based on the same kind and beautiful young woman model.

I do not know her well, but she is a Vet Tech and took gentle care of our Bichon doggy.

The first drawing is the new drawing.  It is of Mandilyn the Archer Elf from Rivendell.

Mandilyn the Archer Elf from Rivendell

This is the Warrior Elf Mandilyn.  But here she is armed as an Elf  Archer... or Archer Elf.  I could say She-Elf Archer. She is light on her feet and is a crack shot with the bow and arrow.  Here she is standing in a forest meadow.  She is holding an arrow after shooting an arrow and dispatching an intruding orc.  She, like all Elf Archers in battle, quickly draws a second arrow as soon as she has let one fly.

Mandilyn is wearing a leather breastplate as her armor.  She has a quiver of arrows at her waist.  Some arches prefer to grab the arrows from down low instead of high behind their back.  Manidlyn is also wearing a blouse that goes to her wrists and there are wrist guards over her wrists.  Archers have to be very mobile so there is no armor below her breastplate.  She also is wearing leggings and soft leather boots to facilitate fast running.

She is on patrol of the forested areas that are part of the approach to Rivendell.  She will soon take off and run to alert Rivendell, because ONE orc may likely mean that there are many more coming.  Mandilyn is a very fast runner and that serves her well when she is on patrol as an Archer Elf.

NOTE:  These drawings can be found, in printable form, by clicking on the button labeled:  "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus."  The drawing of Mandilyn the Archer Elf is going to be at the bottom of the list... if you are accessing this page on or around January 11, 2021.  Below are the other drawings of Mandilyn or Mandia.

Night Unicorn with Cutie Mark coloring page

Welcome to my Free Coloring Pages blog.

There are no ads and no fees to view and print over 1000 coloring pages.

Today's new drawing is unique because I have designed a "Cutie Mark" of my own.

The drawing is of a Night Unicorn.

Night Unicorn with Cutie Mark

This drawing is very personal to me because I designed my own "Cutie Mark."  If you are a fan of My Little Pony TV show you know the importance of Cutie Marks.  The Cutie Mark identifies things like the interests of the pony or unicorn or alicorn.  It also shows what is important to that creature.

Night Unicorns prefer to be active at night.  They therefore are nocturnal.  Night Unicorns are very secretive and mortals almost never see them.  There are Night Unicorns wherever there are Unicorns that are active during the day.

So, let me tell you about MY cutie mark that is seen on this Unicorn.  By the way, this is NOT a My Little Pony style of drawing, it is my own style.  Or I should say ONE of my own styles.  It is part cartoon drawing and part realism.  This Unicorn is in a meadow by a small wood or grove of trees.

Anyway, about my own personal Cutie Mark:  The fish symbol is a Christian symbol or a Symbol of Jesus Christ.  Jesus said, "Come, and I will make you fishers of men."  I believe that Jesus Christ was and IS the Savior of the world and of every individual human that has ever lived, that lives now, or will ever live.  Because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we all will be resurrected one day.  That means that after we die our spirit goes to dwell in the Spirit World.  When we are resurrected our spirit reunites with our mortal body, only it will be a perfected and immortal body.

The Atonement of Jesus Christ also lets us choose to repent of our sins.  Then the Atonement pays the eternal price for those sins. If we strive to keep God's commandments we can one day live with our family in the eternities.  So the family is very important to me.  Therefore there is a "Family" drawing as part of my Cutie Mark.  I believe that our relationships with our family members are by far some of the most important things we should be nourishing in our mortal life.  That includes our relationship with our spouse if we have been blessed to have a spouse.  As older adults, my wife and I enjoy the relationship we have with our three grandchildren and we cherish those relationships.  Yet the relationship with our now-grown children is also a great blessing to us in our later years.  It is so amazing to see our once little children as adults who are doing their best to make their own way in the world.

Education is very important to me.  So there is a graduation cap to show how both teaching and learning are to me. I was an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher and a bilingual education teacher in elementary schools.  I then was a Jr. High Science Teacher.  So there is a symbol of a planet like Saturn, and a symbol of a deer.  The planet and deer both represent my love of Science... especially my love of Astronomy and Biology.  The deer also represents my love of Nature.  In fact, the fish could also represent my love of the outdoors and of fishing.  Actually, both my wife and I were Science Teachers and we feel that the knowledge of science is enriching to our lives.  I am particularly obsessed with dinosaurs, so there is also a dinosaur as part of the Cutie Mark.

The "Family" symbol and the "Deer" symbol are both from Native American pictograph language.  I am part Native American and very proud of that heritage.  Much of the Constitution of the United States was modeled off of the government of my Iroquois (Native American) ancestors.

There is a Fairy symbol.  I love the idea of Fairies.   I have fun drawing Fairies and if you read this blog regularly you know that I draw a lot of people as Fairies.  In fact, I like the idea of Fairies so much I am working on a novel about a Fairy that marries a mortal man.   I work on the book, using my iPhone, usually late at night when my health challenges keep me awake.  In my Fairy world, (which is still Earth), the Fairies live in secret in underground villages.  Fairies can enlarge to mortal size and some choose to live among us and appear as mortals to our mortal eyes.  The unique thing about my Fairy story is that Fairies are religious, in fact, most Fairies in my novel are Christians.

The central symbol in my Cutie Mark is a Heart with a circle in it.  The Heart is a symbol (to me) of Charity or Love.  The Holy Bible speaks of the importance of Charity.  The Book of Mormon also speaks of Charity and both emphasize that we must develop charity for others.  I believe we can develop charity for our fellow mortals AND for our other fellow beings.  We are dog lovers and, over the years, have adopted 5 different senior rescue dogs.  Our current doggy is struggling with the beginnings of doggy dementia and we have to be very patient with him.

The Book Of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ tells us to pray for charity.  It means we should pray to develop charity in our hearts.  Charity is the pure love of Christ.  He loves us without conditions, but he commands us to keep His commandments so that we can be truly happy.  True happiness comes from keeping the commandments.

The circle in the center of the heart has to do with the eternities.  A circle has been a symbol of forever.  We members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believe that marriage is eternal when we are sealed in the Temple of God and when we keep our covenants.  Hence the symbolism of the shape of a circular wedding ring.  It symbolizes eternity.  I am very grateful for my kind, patient, and loving wife.

The circle also reminds me to keep an eternal perspective.  This is especially important in times of trials.  I am suffering from tracheal malacia, and have been doing so for over 2 decades.  There is a stent in my trachea and embedded mesh that make me hurt and bleed nearly constantly now.  I also have heart failure, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis.  My wife is also dealing with a treatable form of blood cancer.  She has to take a chemotherapy pill every day.  She also has essential tremors and fibromyalgia.  Depression is a mental illness that also runs in my family.  We both have had counseling or mental health therapy to help us there.

We choose to keep an eternal perspective on our trials.  And yes, sometimes it is very challenging, but we have a strong belief that this very corruptible body will one day be a resurrected and glorious body and we will dwell with our family and our Eternal Parents, and our Savior Jesus Christ... in the eternities.

By the way, this Night Unicorn is living on Earth.  I DID draw some of our solar system planets though, (in a rather large size).  The planets are Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury and they were in conjunction in the southwest sky last night.  The main light source in the drawing is the moon.  I kind of drew the "man on the moon" very much more visible than it really is.  Besides, I drew him as a "happy man on the moon."  There is also a "happy tree" in the drawing.  Can you find it?  The light source for the planets and the moon is of course the sun and it is located far to the left and out of the picture.  Remember that planets and moons reflect light from the sun.  Planets and moons don't make their own light.

I also should mention that although I have watched My Little Pony with my grandkids, I am not a "Brony" or older male enthusiasts of the show.  Still, there are good lessons of loyalty, friendship, and right vs wrong from My Little Pony and I recommend the show for young kids.  The artwork of the drawings alone is rather fascinating.  My own style of drawing cartoon unicorns and ponies is influenced by it, but still, my drawings are my own style.

NOTE:  This drawing will be posted in the category of "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus".  Just click on the right button and scroll to the bottom of the printables list to get to the new drawing.

Tundra Swans and other Swans coloring pages

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

Today's new drawing is of Tundra Swans at Farmington Bay.

Tundra Swans at Farmington Bay

Tundra Swans migrate through the Great Salt Lake area.  Farmington Bay is a Freshwater portion of that area.  Usually, they migrate in the spring and fall, but we saw a flock of Tundra Swans at Farmington Bay THIS WEEK.   And this week is mid-winter. So it appears that some Tundra Swans might overwinter here in Utah. . . unless they are just migrating through. The Tundra Swans breed in the spring up in remote regions of the Arctic.

Some Tundra Swans migrate from Alaska clear to Virginia.  Others head for Northern California in the winter, or Utah, or Oregon, or Washington, or other western states in the USA.  They breed so far north that it IS often a tundra so hence the name Tundra Swans.

When Lewis and Clark saw them they heard a whistling noise that was made by their wings so they named them Whistling Swans.  There are around 75,000 that migrate through the Great Salt Lake area, here in Utah.

Tundra Swans are very large birds.  They have a wingspan of 5 feet or 1.5 meters.  There are few sights in the world, in my opinion, that are more beautiful than a swan.

There is a Pie-Billed Grebe and a California Gull in the drawing.  These smaller birds are also resting on the ice.   There was some ice and some open areas on Farmington Bay yesterday.

NOTE:  This drawing is not quite accurate.  I could draw the necks of the swans thinner and they would be more accurate, but I decided to draw them this thickness so that kids could color them easier.  The drawing is based on some photos that I took yesterday at Farmington Bay.   This drawing, in printable form, can be found by clicking on the Bird button or the Animals button... that are located at the top of this blog page.  NEW drawings are always at the bottom of the printable drawings lists.  I am also adding some other drawings I have done of swans.   I am posting them below.  These older drawings are also available in printable form in the same place... but further up the list.  By the way, I will also post a couple of my photos.  I don't have a fancy camera with a telescopic lens.  What I did was photograph the swans with my telescope and my iPhone.  The swans were quite a ways away, out on the water and some were walking on the ice.  (Tundra Swans prefer sleeping on land in the summer and sleeping in the water in the winter.)  By the way, I have drawn a LOT of swans over the years.  I draw a lot of them for kids to color that never make it to this blog.  The kids get the original drawings.

Mavina the Butterfly Fairy coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

There are over 1000 free coloring pages to print on this blog.

Today's new drawing is a Butterfly Fairy named Mavina.

Mavina the Butterfly Fairy

Mavina is a beautiful young little girl Fairy.  She loves butterflies and hence is called a Butterfly Fairy.  She cares for them and she especially watches over their cocoons.  The metamorphosis stage of a butterfly's life is when they are most vulnerable.  Mavina likes to wear plant-based clothing.  Hence her leafy outfit.  At times Mavin also works as a Mushroom Fairy and collects edible mushrooms for her forest village.  She lives underground - under a Blue Spruce Tree.  That is where her village is located.  During the long winters, in her mountain forest, she likes to draw.  She is a very gifted artist.  She is quite young, under 8 years old.  She likes to spend time with her family and friends as well.

Here we see Mavina with a couple of butterflies.  The butterfly behind her is a Swallowtail Butterfly, or Western Tiger Swallowtail with the scientific name of:  Papilio rutulus rutulus.  The butterfly in front of Mavina is a Mormon Fritillary with the scientific name of:  Speyeria mormonia.  Both butterflies are native to Utah, where Mavina lives.

Damselfly Fairy coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

There are over 1000 free to print coloring pages!

Today's new drawing is a Damselfly Fairy.

Damselfly Fairy

Damselfly Fairies are among the most beautiful of Fairies.  They prefer to stay in their natural diminutive size.  They obviously have an affinity with Damselflies.  Fairies sometimes also are very close to dragonflies.  This Damselfly Fairy is using Metis Oratio to communicate with the nearby Damselfly.  Mentis Oratio is a type of telepathy that Faires can do.  The Fairy is named Alette, which means "small winged one."

Speaking of Fairy wings, you may notice that Alette has three pairs of wings while Damselflies have only two pairs of wings.  But this Damselfly Fairy has similar spots and veins as the Damselflies have.

If you look closely you will see that Alette has a wand tucked into her flying belt.  A flying belt or Volantum Balteum is used for Fairies to fly long distances and at great speed.  You may not know this, but Fairies have advanced technology that in some ways is far beyond mortal science.  In fact, the leaf-like outfit that Alette has on is actually a Fairy material that is very light and can be made to look like tiny leaves.  Like most Fairies that love being among animals, Alette likes to wear either natural plant-based clothing or actual plants woven into clothing.  Also, some active wildlife Divus or Female Fairies prefer wearing outfits that are not dresses nor skirts... hence the two-piece outfit that Alette is wearing.

I suppose that technically Alette is both a Damselfly Fairy and a Wildlife Fairy.  Any Fairy that has a close relationship with wildlife can be called a Wildlife Fairy.  IF you are wondering about how a Damselfly Fairy would WANT to be friends with an insect, realize that the Fairies keep watch and help protect the wildlife they are friendly with.

Now, about Damselflies:  Damselflies are closely related to Dragonflies.  Both insects are in the classification Order of Odonata.  Damselflies have been on Earth way longer than Fairies or even humans.  There are fossils of Damselflies that date back to the early Permian Period, before the dinosaurs evolved.  That is around 390 million years ago.  So Damselflies have been VERY successful on our shared planet.  Damselflies are generally smaller and always thinner than dragonflies.

Many species of Damselflies are sexually dimorphic with the males being much more brightly colored.  (So not all "Damselflies are damsels or females.)  Females lay eggs in water and the worm-like young look a bit like a worm with legs.  Both the adult and larva forms are predatory on other insects.  So the Damselfly larva will eat other insect larvae, like mosquito larva.  Adult Damselflies would eat other adult insects like mosquitos.  So, there is a lot to like about Damselflies . . . . and the Damselfly Faires that protect them.

This drawing is of a Damselfly Fairy and a couple of Damselflies during the summer.  Here in Northern Utah, it is very cold right now and there are NO Damselflies out and about right now.  But we have a lot of dragonflies and Damselflies up around our beautiful mountain lakes.  And there are probably a bunch of Damselfly Fairies and even Dragonfly Fairies up there in the mountains.

NOTE:  This drawing, in printable form, can be found by clicking on the button labeled Fantasy, Myths, and Circus.  Then scroll to the bottom of the list of drawings for this new drawing.  Have fun coloring!

Happy New Year 2021 or Good Riddance to 2020 comic coloring page cartoon

This is a much better version of my 2021 comic than the last one that was posted Dec. 31, 2020.

I added much more detail and took much more time to draw this comic.

It will be on the printables list tomorrow... Jan. 2, 2021.

Happy New Year 2021 or Good Riddance to 2020

The previous drawing was done rather quickly.  I thought about the past year and I did a better version of the comic with far more detail.  In this version of the comic, the baby new year is a much better drawing.  I added to 2020's old year man:   patches + tears on his robe, a black eye, a dark cloud raining on him, he lost a shoe and stubbed his toe, and he still has a headache (because 2020 WAS a headache), he is followed by murder hornets,  and he is on fire.  He also has a mask hanging from his scythe.  The baby 2021 new year has a hat on and he is sitting on some pillows.  Let's all hope and pray for a better year for 2021!

NOTE:  This drawing is on the Holidays printable list under the "Holidays" button.  Then scroll down to the New Yearsa section of the list.
