Today's new drawing is of a carnivorous dinosaur that was recently discovered and named.
It was found in the Patagonia area of Argentina.
Llukalkan alocranianus a new Dinosaur that caused Fear
Llukalkan alocranianus was discovered in the Patagonia part of Argentina. It was a medium-sized carnivore in the Abelisaur family. It was around 16 1/2 feet long or 5 meters long. Its Genus name means "one that causes fear in the language of the local Mapuche people. Its species name refers to its unique skull. It had structures that indicated that it may have had better hearing than other Abelisoaurs.
Like all Abelisaurs it had short arms with several fingers and a rather short but wide snout. The specimen that was found was most likely a juvenile or sub-adult so full grown Llukalkan may have been up to 30 feet long... but we don't know for certain.
It was far smaller than the biggest herbivores of the time. It lived around 80 million years ago. It was found with another type of Abelisaur nearby. It is possible that each fed on different prey species. It may also be that they had been fighting and injured each other enough to lead to their deaths. OR maybe they just coincidentally died nearby each other.
The Pterosaur is also from Patagonia around 80 million years ago. It had a wingspan of over 16 feet. That is around 5 meters wide. It was not the biggest Pterosaur, but it WAS one of the bigger ones.
