T. rex Mother with Chick in her mouth

The Theropod dinosaurs, like this Tyrannosaurus rex, were good parents.  There is some indication that both parents cared for the young.  So if you saw this drawing and thought, "Oh no!  She's going to eat the baby!"  Then calm down.  The mother T. rex is caring for her young chick by carrying it in her mouth.

This seems counter-intuitive to us because the T. rex had one of the most powerful bite of any animal to ever have lived.  Some studies have put the Tyrannosaurus rex bite at around 50,000 lbs of force.  Other studies say closer to around 13,000 lbs of force.  In either case, it is remarkable to think of a mouth with that kind of power being used to carefully carry a young chick.

NOTE:  This coloring page can be found, in printable form, by clicking on the correct button up top.  Click on either:  . . . . . . .All Printables. . . . . or. . . . .
