Majungasaurus the Unicorn Dinosaur coloring page

Hi!  This is my free coloring pages blog.

The new drawing today is of the Unicorn Dinosaur Mapjungasaurus.

I drew almost all these drawings on this site.  The only ones I did not draw are

a few that were drawn by some of my talented grandnieces and grandnephews.

Majungasaurus the Unicorn Dinosaur

Majungasaurus lived in the Late Cretaceous, around 70 million years ago.  It was a top predator on  what we now call Madagascar.  It was up to 26 feet or about 8 meters long and had a mouthful of sharp teeth, sharp claws, and oddly enough, a horn on its head that sat right where we think a unicorn horn belongs.  Majungasaurus is estimated to have weighed up to 3,300 lbs or around 1500 kg in mass.

If you look at the skull you will see a smaller horn than this drawing shows.  But horns generally have a keratin sheath that makes the horn longer when the animal is alive.  So if you go to a museum and see the horns on a Triceratops skull, then you need to realize that the horns were bigger, longer, and sharper than that.  The same goes for the single horn on a Majungasaurus.

Majungasaurus was a Theropod dinosaur and it was a carnivore.  It may or may not have had feathers, but you should know that some paleontologists think that sooner or later we will find evidence that most if not all Theropod dinosaurs from the Late Jurassic to Late Cretaceous Period had feathers... including Majungasuarus, T. rex, Velociraptor, etc.

The Late Cretaceous was a very volcanic time so I included the volcano.  There is some thought that the demise of the dinosaurs started with the upsurge of volcanic activity and the asteroid finished the job.

NOTE:  This drawing, in printable form, is found by clicking on the button labeled "Paleontology" and then scrolling down to the bottom of the Mesozoic section of the drop-down menu or list.
