Steppe Mammoth the Biggest Mammoth Ever

This is my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawing is of the biggest mammoth ever to live.

Steppe Mammoth the Biggest Mammoth

The Steppe Mammoth was the biggest mammoth ever to live.  In fact, it was the biggest species of elephant.  It lived 1.7 million to 200,000 thousand years ago.  It first evolved in East Asia and the species eventually spread to both Europe and North America.

The biggest male steppe mammoths were up to 14.8 feet or 4.5 meters tall.  It weighed over 31,000 lbs or a mass of 14.3 tonnes.  (metric tonnes)  That would be 14,300 kg.  It may have been partially covered in hair or maybe fully covered in hair.  It definitely had some hair.

Modern humans evolved around the time that this species of mammoth went extinct.  It is possible that Man helped drive this species to extinction via overhunting.  But we don't know this. There is also the fact that modern humans first evolved in Africa, not on the northern continents where the Steppe Mammoth lived.  In fact, I should add that the Steppe Mammoth is also called the Siberian Mammoth.

NOTE:  This drawing is found in printable form by clicking on the "Paleontology" button and scrolling a little way down to the bottom of the Cenozoic Life section.  Have fun coloring!
