Welcome or welcome back to my free coloring pages blog.
I realized that it has been some time since I posted any Paleontology coloring pages.
So here are several that I have done over the course of October and Early November.
I have posted drawings of Dinosaurs, Pterosaurs, and Marine Reptiles...
all from the Mesozoic Period.
Thanatosdrakon the Dragon of Death
This is the biggest Pterosaur ever found in South America. It had a wingspan of 30 feet or 9 meters. It was a close relative of Quetzalcoatlus. In fact, it is considered a type of Quetzalcoatloid. Quetzalcoatlus was a bit bigger with a wingspan between 33 and 36 feet. The name Thanatosdrakon actually means "Dragon of Death!! It was a Cretaceous Period Pterosaur.
Daspletosaurus teaching Chick to Hunt
This dinosaur was a direct ancestor of Tyrannosaurus rex. It was smaller but more robust AKA more muscular. It also had proportionately bigger teeth than a T. rex. It lived about 79-74 million years ago. That was before it evolved into T. rex. It was about 30 feet or 9 meters long. It had a mass or weight of around a ton. It had the two small arms and two-fingered hands like other Tyrannosaurs.
Acuetzpalin the Water Lizard
This type of Ichthyosaur was found in 2020 in Mexico. It was only a partial skeleton that was found. So its exact size is not clear. It is one of the Opmalosaurid Ichthyosaurs, which means it had large eyes and excellent vision - most likely for diving deep into the ocean and being able to see in the dark.
Pegomastax the small but Strong Jawed Dinosaur
This was a very small dinosaur of only just under 2 feet or .6 meters. It had a very strong jaw that it probably used to crack hard seeds from conifers. It was a herbivore. The Pterosaurs in the distance are called Rhamphorhynchus. It was a Pterosaur with a wingspan of 5.9 feet or 1.81 meters.
Serpentisuchops the Snaky Crocodile-Faced Marine Reptile
The name Serpentisuchops means "Snaky Crocodile Face. This marine reptile that was one of the Plesiosaurs had an unusually long skull AND a long neck. The other Plesiosaurs had either a long neck and short skull or a short neck and a long skull. So Serpentisuchops was unique. It was found in Wyoming, USA. It was 23 feet or 7 meters long.
NOTE: These drawings are found in printable form by clicking on the Paleontology buttoning. Then scroll down to the bottom of the Mesozoic part of the list. Then click on the title to get the coloring page. The printable or PDF copies are more clear than the PNG copies on this main blog page.
