Reaper of Death Dinosaur Thanatotheristes

This is a free coloring page blog.  There are hundreds of drawings to color that are found by clicking on the top category buttons.  Have fun coloring.
Reaper of Death Dinosaur Thanatotheristes

This is a fairly new discovery.  It is a type of Tyrannosaur.  It is named Thanatotheristes... which means Reaper of Death.  The species name honors the family that found it.  The species name is degrootorum.  So the full name is Thanatotheristes degrootorum.  This dino lived about 80 million years ago.  The type specimen was not a full-sized adult.  It was found in Alberta, Canada.   There are other Tyrannosaurs from the area:  Daspleteosaurus and Albertosaurus.

This Tyrannosaur was 26 feet or 8 meters long.  But as I mentioned before, it was not a full adult.  So the adult would have been bigger.  This Reaper of Death had brow ridges and a bumpy ridge on the snout.  The skull was almost a yard or a bit less than a meter long.  A T. rex skull is 5 feet or 1.52 meters long.

So even though this was smaller than a T. rex, it was no tiny animal.  It was probably the top predator 80 million years ago.  That was 18 million years before T. rex appeared.  It may be that Thanatotheristes was an ancestor to T. rex.

This will be available in printable form in the lists found by clicking on the buttons up top.  Click on the buttons labeled:   . . . . . All Printables. . . . . or . . . . Paleontology.   Scroll down to the bottom for new drawings like this one.  I will re-post some other drawings of dinos mentioned in this post.  I will post them below.  By the way, since part of Canada speaks French, I think I will post this in French too.

Daspleteosaurus on the Prowl
(This was smaller than Thanatotheristes... but also from Alberta, Canada.)

Albertosaurus with Leopard Pattern Spots
(Another Tyrannosaur from Alberta, Canada)
(This dino, at 30 feet or 9 meters was bigger than the individual Thanatotheristes that was found.)
(The words were added because this was made as a Mother's Day Card.)
