Aboriginal Warrior with Spear
This Aboriginal Warrior drawing is based on a statue we saw in Australia at a station along the Stuart Highway. There are a couple of gigantic statues at the Aileron Rest Stop. These statues are magnificent. There is one of an Aboriginal Warrior and another of an Aboriginal Mother and Child. Both took my breath away. My drawing is based partly on the male warrior and on another statue that we saw of an Aboriginal Warrior with a spear and a war club. I plan to draw the Mother and Child soon.
Please be aware that my drawing is based on the statues but it is not a perfect drawing. I have great respect for the Aboriginal culture. They are the oldest intact culture on Earth. That is really saying something. The ancestors of the Australian Aborigines came to Australia possibly as early as 60,000 years ago! I am part Native American, but Native Americans can not trace their history back near as far as the Australian Aborigines can. One of the most amazing facts I learned in Australia is that an Aboriginal Elder can look at rock or cave drawings and tell you exactly what the drawings mean. And those drawings can be around 40,000 years old! Another amazing fact is that many of the Aborigines can speak five languages. They learn the languages of the nearby tribes or groups who they trade with. So it is obvious that the Aborigines are highly intelligent.
The Aborigines ability to survive and thrive in the Outback and their knowledge of the land and ecosystem there is phenomenal too! An Aborigine can sing their way across the land because that is one way they learn the location of water.
NOTE: Look closely at the bird in the air. This is a Wedge Tail Eagle. These drawings can be found, in printable form, by clicking on the correct button up top. Those buttons take you to a drop down menu with titles of printable drawings. New drawings, like the first drawing on today's post, are at the bottom of the correct list. The below drawing is further up the lists because it is from a previous post.
