John 21, Jesus by the Sea of Tiberias or the Sea of Galilee

Jesus by the Sea of Tiberias in John 21

This is an illustration of Jesus on the shore.  Peter and some of the other apostles went fishing.  This was after the death and resurrection of Christ.  They went fishing at night.  In the morning Jesus came to the shore and called to them and asked if they had caught any fish.  They had not.  So Jesus told them to cast their net to the right side of the boat... and the net was instantly full of fish.  So Peter realized that it was the Lord so he dived in and swam to shore.  Jesus went on to tell Peter to "Feed my lambs and feed my sheep."

But this illustration is of Jesus on the shore.  It says in John 21 that the apostles found a fire with fish cooking on the coals.  This picture is of the fire burning down to coals and Jesus waiting on the shore as the moon is setting.  Night is almost over and soon he will be teaching his disciples or apostles.  I did NOT draw a sunrise because Jesus would have been on the West shore and the sun rises in the East.  Peter and most of the other apostles lived on the West shore of the Sea of Galilee or Sea of Tiberias.  The Romans built a city by the Sea of Galilee and named the city Tiberias after the second emperor of Rome.  They also renamed the sea the Sea of Tiberius.  I have seen the Tiberias and Tiberius as different spellings of the same word.

As I understand it, a disciple is a follower and an apostle is a special witness for Christ.  Indeed the Apostles traveled far and wide to spread the Gospel of their Lord and Master Jesus Christ.  Most of them gave thier lives or were martyred for teaching the Gospel of Salvation through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

Jesus paid the eternal price for our sins so we can repent and one day return to live with our Heavenly Parents.  Yes we Latterday Saints or members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints believe that we all lived in Heaven as spirit children of our Heavenly Parents.  Jesus was there too and he was our elder brother.  He volunteered to die on the cross and be resurrected so that one day we can all be resurrected.  His sacrifice also made repentence possible.  So if we keep the commandments of God, server others, and recieve the saving ordinances like baptism and our Temple blessings.... one day we can again dwell with our Heavenly Father and Mother in the eternities.

We also believe that marriage and family is an eternal thing and we will be there with our Heavenly Family and our Earthly Family will be with us too.  A man and woman who are sealed for time and all eternity in the Temple get to stay married forever.   I know that this is different from what most Christians are taught in their church, but I have found that many Christians believe that they will be with their husband or wife and children in the next life.
