Types of Reptiles or Class: Reptilia coloring pages

Hi there.  You have found my free coloring pages blog with hundreds of drawings I have done for you to print and color.  It has been several days since I last posted.  I have been recovering from surgery and subsequent hospital stay.  And before that, I will tell you that I was really struggling with my breathing and swallowing.  In any case, I am back and although I have not been posting I HAVE been drawing.  So... today I am starting a post of several types of reptiles that I have drawn.  It will probably take a few days to get all the pages posted.  Being at the computer is rather challenging right now.  

About reptiles or Class: Reptilia... Reptiles are vertebrates, so they have a backbone and internal bones.  They are generally cold-blooded and have scaly skin.  They tend to lay leathery eggs on land.  Evolutionarily they were the precursors to mammals.  So I have even included a drawing of mammal-like reptiles that gave rise to mammals.  I have also included dinosaurs, although most biologists and paleontologists would probably put dinosaurs in either Dinosauria or Aves.  The Theropod dinosaurs are usually now considered Aves or a type of bird.  I am also including Pterosaurs and Marine Reptiles, both of which are often confused with dinosaurs.  

I am also including modern reptiles such as turtles, tortoises, snakes, crocodilians, lizards, etc.  Some of the drawings are more detailed/realistic and some are more cartoon drawings for younger kids. 

  Again, please understand that I can not post all of them today.  I have to take it easy and typing on the computer is painful.  Here is the first drawing.  It is set in the oldest age of early reptiles. 

Edaphosaurus chased by Dimetrodon

These two animals are from the Early Permian Period of the Paleozoic Era.  They are NOT dinosaurs, although toy Dimetrodons are often found in packages of toy dinosaurs.  Dimetrodon was a predator and Edaphosaurus was an herbivorous prey species. Both were some of the earliest mammal-like reptiles.  Dimetrodon means two-length teeth.  It was the first animal with fangs.  They both lived in what is now Europe and North America between 275 mya and 295 mya. MYA = million years ago. This drawing is a rather simple depiction of the two actual animals.  (It is not exactly perfectly accurate, but it is a recognizable drawing of the two animals.)  They lived in the early Permian Period, many million years before the first dinosaur appeared.  So they were NOT dinosaurs.  The printable version of this drawing is found by clicking on the Paleontology button and then scrolling down to the bottom of the  Paleozoic section of the Paleontology list.  Then click on the title and print the drawing to color.

Diichtodon killed by Postosuchus

Diictodon was one of the mammal-like reptiles.  It lived in burrows and was about half a meter in length.  Postosuchus was the T. rex of the Triassic Late Triassic Period.  Here we see it feeding on a Diichtodon.  The animal in the background is a large tusked herbivore called Placerias.   An adult Postasuchus would have been around 13 feet or 4 meters long.  So this would have to be a juvenile Postaoschus since Diictodon was only about 19 or 20 inches long.  Surprisingly, none of THESE animals are dinosaurs either.  Although it looks much like a dinosaur, Postosuchus was more closely related to crocodilians, not dinosaurs.  The Theropod dinos did NOT evolve from Postosuchus. Crocodile Mommy and Son 

Crocodilians have been around for a long time here on Earth.  They lived before the dinosaurs, with the dinosaurs they got huge, and even now they are thriving on Earth.  Since this is a cartoon drawing you can change it from Crocodile Mommy and Son to Crocodile Mommy and Daughter.  Just add eyelashes to the juvenile in the cartoon drawing and that makes the animal a female... Ichthyotitan the Biggest Marine Reptile

The first found fossils of Ichthyotitan were found a few years ago by an 11-year-old girl.  
The fossils were found near the same place as Mary Anning found the first known Ichthyosaur.  The 11-year-old girl is named Ruby Reynolds.  The fossils of Ichthyotitan were enormous.  They turned out to be a few of the bones of quite possibly the biggest marine reptile ever.  Icthyotitan was an Ichthyosaur.  It was shaped vaguely like a dolphin... only a HUGE dolphin!  It is estimated to have been 82 feet long!  That is 25 meters long!  There IS some evidence of a larger Ichthyosaur but there is speculation that it may be another sample of Ichthyotitan.  

The two Pterosaurs that are seen in the sky are Rhamphorhynchus and Caelestiventus. They are both Pterosaurs from the late Triassic Period, so they did live at the same time as Ichthyotitan.  To get to the printable version of this drawing just click on the Paleontology button and scroll down to the bottom of the Mesozoic section of the list. 

Mosasaur hunting Plesiosaur

This is a drawing of the Cretaceous Sea.  It includes a Mosasaur and a Plesiosaur.  Plesiosaurs were long-neck marine reptiles.  Previously it was thought that Mosasaurs had a a long flat tail.  Now tail flukes have been found on some Mosasaurs so possibly all of them had tail flukes or tail fins.  This is a smaller - possibly subadult Mosasaur hunting a Plesiosaur.  There are a few other animals in the drawing, like the shelled floating Ammonites on the lower left and a crab near the lower right.  These animals were all living in the Late Cretaceous Period.  Plesiosaurs actually also lived in the Jurassic Period.  As far as size, the Mosasaurs could get to be 55 feet long.  Some Plesiosaurs could get to the length of 50 feet, with much of that length made up of their long skinny neck.  FYI some Plesiosaurs (called Pliosaurs) had short necks and they were the kings of the sea in the Jurassic Period.  Remember that THIS is a drawing of the Cretaceous Sea, not the Jurassic Ocean.  This drawing, in printable form, is found by clicking on the button labeled Paleontology.  Then scroll down to the bottom of the  Mesozoic part of that page.  Click on the title and you will get your coloring page.

Royal Ranger Marries Elven Princess

A beautiful couple married. They are beautiful people on all levels.  Physical beauty is wonderful and all would agree that these are beautiful people.  But their inward beauty is so much more important.  And this couple, Kyler and Kyrell are blessed with an abundance of inner beauty.  

Kyler is a ranger with royal blood.  He has chosen to defend the realm and nearby places from evil creatures.  But don't assume he is all brawn.  He is a gifted chef and manages a victualling house when he is not on duty patrolling the realm.  

Kyrell is a striking beauty.  But she has a kind heart and strives to help all women learn to appreciate their own beauty.  So as mentioned before, Kyrell is also so very beautiful on the inside.  

Notice the Elven letter on Kyrell's locket and on Kyler's breastplate.  Look it up if you want to know what letter it is.  Hint, it truly matches them.  

NOTE:  I need to share that as an artist drawing is a coloring page style it is impossible to capture the true likeness.  I strive to do the best I can. Moon Fairy

Moon Fairies are nocturnal.  That means that they are active at night.  Here we see a Moon Fairy appropriately out at night.  She has lacewings like many of the insects that are active at night.  She is both beautiful and kind. 

You may have noticed her belt.  The centerpiece is in the shape of a Fairy symbol.  The belt is actually a flying belt or Balteaus Volantum.  All Fairies can fly, but with a flying belt, they can fly faster and for much longer.  It may surprise you to learn that Fairy tech is far more advanced than mortal tech.

then we had a trip to our nephew's wedding. 

Today's new post is a drawing of Jesus with Mary after His resurrection. 

By the way, I actually have several drawings to post. 

So I will be posting several days in a row. 

Jesus with Mary after His Resurrection

Jesus first appeared to Mary... I think it was Mary Magdelene.  She and Jesus had a special close relationship.  Some people have even conjectured that they were married, although that is not mentioned in the King James Bible that we use.  

Mary was crying because the thought that Jesus' enemies had stolen and probably desecrated His body.  She only saw Jesus out of the corner of her eye and she thought that He was the gardener.  She asked Him where they had taken the body.  Do you see the tears running down Mary's face?

Jesus replied in what must have been a kindly voice, "Mary!"  

She then recognized Him and rushed to hug Him.  She probably wanted to throw her arms around Him.  But Jesus stopped her because He first had to ascend to His Father, meaning Father in Heaven. 

To me this event is evidence that Jesus and His Father in Heaven were distinct and separate individuals.  I mean, why would Jesus say that He needed to ascend to His Father if His Father and Jesus were just different manifestations of the same being?

Happy Easter 2024 coloring pages

Hi!  Happy Easter! 

Right now I am re-posting a couple of Easter drawings that I did a week or two ago.

This will probably be my last post until we return from vacation in early April.

Jesus is Resurrected from the Tomb after 3 Days

If Jesus had not died for our sins then we could not repent.  

He paid the eternal price or punishment for our sins.  

If He had not resurrected (come back to life in a glorified body) then 

we would not be able to one day be resurrected.  

Since Jesus Christ DID pay the price for our sins and was resurrected three

days later, we will ALL be resurrected.  So that means no more tracheotomy, no 

rheumatoid arthritis pain, no diabetes, no heart failure... etc. 

Jesus has kept his scars from the cross in order to testify to all mankind who He 

is and what He has done for all of us.

 I also want to remind you of a great Easter book called The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes.  It is a great story and it is very empowering to disenfranchised people. It is one of my favorite books.    It was ahead of its time.  It was written in the 1930s!

Dilophosaurus coloring page

Today's new drawing is of Dilophosaurus

along with other animals that lived in the 

the early Jurassic ecosystem of North America.

Dilophosaurus of the Early Jurassic

This is a drawing of Dilophosaurus.  It was a Theropod carnivorous dinosaur of the Early Jurassic Period.  It lived in what is now North America.  It was depicted in Jurassic Park as having a frill and spitting poison.  We do not know that this is what it had and could do, but some modern reptiles do have frills and some modern reptiles can spit poison.  The movie also depicted Dilophosaurus as being maybe 9 feet long or so. 

I absolutely adore the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies.  However, in reality, Dilophosaurus was actually much bigger than depicted.  Dilophosaurus was the top predator in its Early Jurassic ecosystem about 201-183 million years ago.  Its fossils were first found in Arizona, USA.  

The full frills have never been found.  So we are not sure what it looked like.  Dilophosaurus means "two-frilled lizard."  Google "Dilophosaurus" and you will see various artists' renditions of this dinosaur- each with a different shaped pair of frills. 

The mammal that the Dilophosuarus is confronting (and planning on eating) is an early mammal-like reptile called Dinnebitodon.  Dinnebitodon was quite small.  In reality, it would have only been a mouthful for a full-sized Dilophosaurus.  So I guess we COULD say that this is a fairly young Dilophosaurs.  

The long-necked dinosaur in the background is a Prosauropod named "Sarahsaurus."  It was about 13 feet or 4 meters long.  It weighed around 440 lbs or massed at 200 kg. It was an ancestor to the huge Sauropods of the later Jurassic Period and of the Cretaceous Period.

Mountain Unicorn at Sunrise

Mountain Unicorns live, as you would expect, in the mountains.  They are sure-footed like goats. Yet they still come down into the mountain valleys from time to time.  Some Mountain Unicorns live at extreme heights.  Most people can not see a Mountain Unicorn.  Mountain Unicorns have powerful concealing magic that makes them look like large mountain goats to most mortals.  

Mountain Unicorns are smaller than the more common Unicorns that live at lower elevations.  Mountain Unicorns are sentient, like all Unicorns. So they have intelligence the same as mortals, Fairies, Merpoeple, Dwarfs, and Elves.  

IF you ever see a Mountain Unicorn then they have chosen you to see them.  This means that they sense something unique and kind in you. This is a wonderful experience.  Although it is an eye-opener to discover that magical beings share this planet with us mortals.

Jesus Prays on a Mountaintop

Jesus, in His sort of mortal life, was fond of going up into the mountains to be with God.  He could meditate and pray.  I think we can assume that.  Of course, Jesus was our spiritual brother.  We all have spirits in our mortal bodies.  Those spirits were made by our Heavenly Parents.  The difference between us and Jesus is that Jesus had a physical body that was fathered by our Heavenly Father.  That is why Jesus is called the "\Only Begotten of the Father."   

Up above I referred to Jesus' "sort of mortal life."  It was sort of mortal because He was the Son of God so He had power over death.  Jesus was not a helpless victim of Roman cruelty.  No, Jesus was a willing sacrifice because he volunteered to be the Savior of all Mankind.  He paid the price for our sins.  Specifically, He paid the ETERNAL prince of our sins so that we can repent and be forgiven.  

About the drawing, Jesus may have used a prayer shawl and I did not draw it this time  I have drawn Jesus praying in the mountains before only WITH a prayer shawl on His head.  The dove is in the drawing to show that the Holy Ghost is with Jesus as Jesus prays to Heavenly Father.  Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit are members of the Godhead.  They are separate and distinct individuals.  They are ONE in purpose.

Dune 1 and Dune 2 movie review and Muad'Dib the Dune Kangaroo Rat coloring page

Today I am posting some "fan art" that I drew from the 2023 and 2024 movies 

Dune part 1 and Dune part 2.

I am also reviewing those two movies. 

Muad'Dib the Dune Kangaroo Rat

First the review of the 2 Dune movies:  The 2023 and 2024 movies that are based on the Dune book are very well done.  No movie based on a book will make everyone happy but there are a lot of things to love about these two movies based upon the first Dune novel.  

First of all the acting is superb in many ways.  The cast is exceptional.  Timothy Chaleme is believable in the role as Paul Atreides.  In part 2 the acting of Zandaya is REALLy good.  In my opinion, she deserves an Academy Award for her part in this movie.  She had only limited time in the first movie so her acting skills were not showcased very much.  She was so good in the second movie that I plan to draw her as Chani in her stillsuit.  Of course, that will be a fan art drawing.  

The supporting cast is also excellent.  I particularly was impressed with Jason Momoa as Gurney.  But Rebecca Furgeson was also exceptional as Jessica Atreides.  The role of Baron Vladamir Harkonan was played by Stellen Skarsgard and he was good in the role.  The role of Duke Leto Atredides was played bu Oscar Issac and he was very believable in the role.  Really, all of the roles were masterfully cast and the performances were great. 

Now, these next lines are kind of spoilers.  So don't keep reading if you want no spoilers. . . . 

The Harkonnans in the 1984 Dune movie were ginger-haired or redheads.  In THIS adaptation the Harkonans are all bald.  That actually worked for me. I would have liked to see more interaction between Lady Jessica and Duke Leto. The sandwor33ms were impressive but I felt like they could have used a 3-part or multi-part mouth like in the 1984 version of the movie.  Having the mouths round was just not as impressive to me.  Finally, the movie has changed some parts of the story that are mostly true to the feel of the book.  One difference is that Chani is depicted as not liking that Paul is leading the holy war.  She doesn't believe in the prophecy.  Another difference is that the book gives us closure while this movie leaves us with a cliffhanger.  At the end of the book, Jessica tells Chani that history would call them wives.  In the book Paul Maud'Dib is clear that his marriage to the princess is a name-only marriage  That does not really happen in Dune Part 2.  

That being said, I would give this movie 5 out of 5.  It really is the best adaptation of the book and more closely follows the book than the 1984 movie, and I am considering the ScyFy Channel mini-series and the 1984 Dune movie.  I re-watched Dune 1984 then re-watched Dune 2023 before I went to Dune Part 2.  

Now, about the Dune kangaroo rat that they call Muad'Dib.  It is clearly based on the kangaroo rat from the desert of Southwest USA and Northwest Mexico.  The movie version has bigger ears.  That is very believable because animals in the Dune universe seem to be transplanted from Earth.  The kangaroo rats that were transplanted on the planet Arakkis or Dune could have easily evolved bigger ears if that were a clear survival strategy.  It has been demonstrated that evolution can occur faster than once thought.  That is based on rather recent studies and observations on the Galapagos Islands of the local finch populations.

Garden Bunny Rabbit coloring page

Today's new drawing is of a bunny or rabbit in a garden.  

The fuzzy little animal is eating a carrot.

First of all:  Can you count how many total animals are in this drawing?

Did you know that there are 205 recognized breeds of modern rabbits?  There are 29 species of wild rabbits.  The European Hare is the biggest species of wild rabbit. Netherland Dwarf Rabbit is the smallest breed or type of rabbit anywhere.  It is a domesticated rabbit.  

I must admit that today's picture is of a generic rabbit.  I don't have a specified breed.  In fact, it kinda looks like it might be a farmer rabbit who raised his or her own crops of carrots, etc.  Of course, that makes it kind of anthropomorphic.  (That means a fictional situation where the animal has characteristics of humans.)

F-16V Fighting Falcon coloring page

I drew almost all these pictures except for a few drawn by a grandniece and a grandnephew.  

Today's new drawing is of an F-16V Fighting Falcon.

F-16V Fighting Falcon

This drawing is of the Block 70/72 Fighting Falcon.  

Although F-16 fighter-bombers are also called Viper by the pilots.  

I mistakenly published a few years ago that the F-16 was being retired and replaced by the F-35.  Although that may eventually happen... the F-16 fighters of the US Air Force are being upgraded with better radar and new structure.  The radar is on par with what the F-35 fighters have.  The new structure improvements will give the F-16 fighters longer flying life.  

The F-16V is what I drew above.  It has conformal fuel tanks. Conformal fuel tanks conform to the fuselage and give the aircraft more fuel capacity and therefore more range.  Those tanks can be added or removed with relative ease.  

The USA is selling some of these F-16V fighters that are brand new, off the assembly line.   The US Air Force is upgrading over 600 of its F-16 fleet to the F-16V configuration.  I should add that the new version or upgrade includes a digital screen in the cockpit and other improvements.  You could call the F-16 V Viper a 4.5-generation aircraft now.  

The original manufacturer of the F-16 was General Dynamics.  It is now built by Lockheed-Martin.  This is due to mergers and acquisitions. Just a few specs on the F-16:  Top speed is Mach 2.  That is about 1500 mph or 2414 kph.  Payload capacity is up to 15,200 lbs of various weapons.  The F-16 has a wingspan of 32 feet 8 inches or 9.8 meters.  It is 49 feet 5 inches or 14.8 meters long.

Life Cycle of Frog and Frog coloring page

The rest of today's posts are an activity on the life cycle of a frog.  

Frog on a Lilypad in a Pond

Frogs are amphibians or members of Class: Amphibia.  They go through metamorphosis.   Amphibians are remarkable creatures.  They appear to have been the first vertebrates to live both on land and water.  They have slimy skin that is actually leaky.  For this reason, they have to stay wet or near water.  Tree frogs of the rainforest get wet from the daily rains.  

On the farm where I grew up, there was a reservoir full of bullfrogs.  When they went wandering too far from the reservoir they would dry up and die.  As a child, I would find them dried up and dead 100 yards from getting back to the water of the reservoir.  

I drew this drawing today and I am posting it today because it is Leapday!  Our 365-day calendar is not quite right,  There are actually 365.25 days in a year.  The leap year day takes care of that discrepancy.  If

Life Cycle of Frog - Instructions

You cut out the items on the dotted line and glue the small pictures of the frog metamorphosis stages on the circle.  Then use a brad to hook the top page, the major sector of a circle on top of the circle.  You can then rotate the major sector of a circle and the circular wedge area will reveal each stage of metamorphosis in turn.

Alexineive the Winter Fairy at Night coloring page

Today's new drawing is of a Winter Fairy. 

She is seen at night. 

Lexinieve the Winter Fairy at Night

Lexinieve is a Winter Fairy.  The cold does not bother her.  In fact, she is fine in the cold.  She loves the snow.  But, of course, Fairies are actually a type of mini-human.  So Lexinieve is still warm-blooded. That is why she is wearing a sweater dress and warm leggings.  Lexinieve is seen here in mortal size.  She is a beautiful and kind Fairy.  She is out searching for animals that are in distress in the cold winter temperatures.  

In this drawing, we see Lexinieve out on a cold winter night.  She has just landed and her magic has melted the snow in a small circular area.  She will use her wand to summon any animals that are in distress because of the bitter cold.  She then warms them up with a warming charm.  Winter Fairies are known for doing this.  They will summon and warm animals on both cold winter days and cold winter nights.  

All Fairies can transform to mortal size.  Lexinieve did so in order to make herself more visible to the animals.  She is one of those Faires that live a mortal life much of the time.  But she still regularly visits the local Fairy village.  To enter the hidden village she has to return to her natural Fairy height of about 5 inches or 12.7 cm tall.  

By the way, if you know Spanish you know what Lexinieve means.

Jesus outside Jerusalem near the Temple coloring page

Today's new drawing is of Jesus outside of Jerusalem. 

He is near the Temple.  The Temple of Jerusalem WAS near an outside wall.

There are many drawings of Jesus on this site.  I thought of this one because it shows Jesus outside the walls of Jerusalem but still near the Temple.  This drawing represents Him before his death and resurrection.  He was known to have taken walks that appeared to have been contemplative.  

Jesus was the Son of God.  Heavenly Father is the Father of all of our spirits.  But he was the Father of Jesus' spirit AND the Father of Jesus' mortal body as well. Because He was sired by our Heavenly Father He, Jesus, could suffer to pay the eternal price for our sins.  Because He paid the price for our sins in Gethsemane and on the cross, we can all repent of our sins... and be forgiven.  And if we do our best He will save us on the last day.  Plus we all will be resurrected because Jesus was resurrected.

Emmia the Lotus Fairy coloring page

Emmiah, who is a Lotus Fairy.

Emmiah the Lotus Fairy

Emmalia is a Lotus Fairy.  There are also Fairies who love to hang out on lilypads.  In fact, I thought that maybe lotus flowers and lilies were the same thing.  They are not.  There are several differences.  One of them is that lotus plants do not need to be in water.  They do just fine on land.  Lotus leaves are different from lilypads as well.  Plus, lotus flowers and plants tend to rise above the water and not float on the water like lilypads.  

Now, about Emmalia.  She is a beautiful Lotus Fairy who really loves the scent of lotus flowers.  The lotus flower has been described as heady and like sweet fruit. It is considered to be very pleasant.  Emmalia takes on this lovely scent by hanging out in the flower. Lotus are a very successful type of plant so Lotus Fairies only rarely defend it from herbivores that might want to eat parts of it.

Giraffatitan by a River coloring page

Today's new drawing is of a Giraffatitan.  A very TALL dinosaur.

Giraffatitan by a River

Giraffatitan was a large Sauropod dinosaur.  It was a type of Brachiosaur, although it was not the same species as the well-known Brachiosaurus.  Giraffatitan was one of the tallest dinosaurs.  It was once thought to be the biggest dinosaur.  We now know that it was taller and bigger than Brachiosaurs, but that Sauroposeidon was bigger and taller.  Basically, all were types of Brachiosaurs but Sauroposeidon was the biggest and tallest, then Giraffatitan, and then Brachiosaurs.  Other Brachiosaurs have also been found in various parts of the world.  They all lived in the late Jurassic and some into the early Cretaceous Period. 

Size and height estimates vary.  The different paleontologists have different estimates of the height of Giraffatitan.  Some estimate around 39 feet and some estimate up to 55 feet tall.  Sauroposeidon is thought to have been 60 feet tall.  Of course, Argentinasaurus and Patagotitan from South America are now known to have been the biggest Sauropods and the biggest dinosaurs.  But they were not the tallest.   

By the way, did you notice that I had some fun and drew its patterns very similar to those found on a giraffe?  You see, I forgot to mention that this huge Sauropod was found in Africa... where modern giraffes live.  This body style with long front legs and a tall neck is an example of convergent evolution. Convergent evolution is when two organisms have similar shapes etc. because that adaptation was useful.  Both modern giraffes and the ancient Brachiosaurs had bodies built for eating leaves from tall trees.

Modern Mermaid at a Rock coloring page

of a Modern Mermaid who is at a Rock near the shore.

Mermaids are an ancient legend.  But they are more than that.  Mermaids and indeed Merpeople still exist and live in the oceans of the world.  They live a secretive life from we mortals.  They have their own form of magic to keep themselves and their underwater cities and villages concealed from humans and our scanning gadgets.  On the horizon is a modern ship, so you know this is a Modern Mermaid.  

Merpeople are actually kind of a form of Fairy.  They live for a long time compared to mortals and while alive their appearance of aging is far less than mortals.  When a Merperson chooses to they can climb onto land and transform into what looks like a mortal person.  (They have legs.)  Of course, you may not know that some Merpeople DO have legs, but they also have webbed feet.  These types of Merpeople also can transform into a more mortal form.  

Some Merpeople have fallen in love with mortals and those Merpeople choose to live a life among mortals.  Contrary to what you might have heard, a Mermaid or Merman does not return to their natural finned form just by getting wet.  They actually think or say a transformation charm to transform.  Otherwise, a Mermaid who was married to a mortal man would soon be revealed due to a rainstorm, etc.  I should add that all mortals who fall in love with a Merperson certainly know the full truth about their mate.  

A Merperson who is in mortal form can still breathe water.  That is, they have curtain lungs and can absorb oxygen from both air and water.  Mermaids and Mermen do NOT have gills.  In fact, Mermaids are known for being exceptionally beautiful.  They come in many races, just like mortals do.  Which brings up something else.  Some mortals who fall in love with a Merperson are also in love with the sea.  These mortals choose to live a Merperson life.  The Merperson love of their life can use a special charm to transform the mortal into a Mermaid or Merman form.  

Now, since I am a retired Science Teacher... Look for the following animals:  coral, crab, brain coral, two clownfish, a sea anemone, and five sea birds.  Of course, the Mermaid is also in Kingdom: Animalia. Then there is one member of Kingdom: Plantae... it is the seagrass.  There is one member of Kingdom Protista.  It LOOKS like a plant but it IS in Kingdom: Protista.  It is the kelp.

New Gigantic Pliosaur coloring page

Today's newest drawing is of a huge Pliosaur.

I drew these drawings that you are welcome to print for kids or adults to color. 

New Gigantic Pliosaur

This drawing is based on a recent find... a skull of a huge Pliosaur.  It was found on the Jurassic Coast of Southern England.  The tip of the snout fell out of a cliff by the ocean.  Eventually, the entire skull was found up in the cliff face.  It is thought that this species of Pliosaur was the biggest of all time.  The majority of the skull was found 40 feet up the cliff face and it took a lot of creative engineering to get it out of the rock and down to the beach so it could be taken away to be cleaned up and studied.  The paleontologists only had three weeks to do it before the fall and winter storms started.

Pliosaurs were the biggest predators of the Jurassic oceans.  Pliosaurs are a short-neck Plesiosaur.  The long-neck Plesiosaurs are more well-known now.  But the short-neck Plesiosaurs or Pliosaurs were the real top predators of the Jurassic seas.  Some Pliosaurs you might have heard of are Liopleurodon and Kronosaurus.   They had an incredibly strong bite and certainly ate other marine reptiles like Ichthyosaurs and long-neck Plesiosaurus.  

This latest find of a big Pliosaur had a head that was over 6 feet long and a body length that is estimated to have been over 40 feet long. The new Pliosaur had large conical teeth up front and curved teeth towards the back of the mouth.  So the curved teeth were further towards the back of the mouth.  The conical teeth in the front were great for grasping prey, such as other big marine reptiles. There was also evidence in the jaw of this fossilized skull of Pliosaurs being able to regrow lost teeth. By the way, this is the largest and most well-preserved of any Pliosaur skull that has ever been found.

I learned about this amazing find on an episode of the PBS show called Nature: Attenborough and the Jurassic Sea Monster.  The show pointed out that this monster had pressure sensors on the tip of its snout.  Crocodilians have this as well.  So animals with these pressure sensors on their "nose" can sense their prey, even in dirty murky water or deep down in the sea where there is no sunlight. 

See if you can identify the following in the drawing:  bony fish or Class: Osteichthyes, squid and octopus or Class: Cephalopoda, sharks or cartilaginous fish or Class: Chondrithyes, three Ichthyosaurs who like the Pliosaur are put in Class: Reptilia.  Finally, see if you can see two Jellyfish from Class: Scypozoa.

Look closely right at the top of the head behind the eyes.  There is a dark spot that represents the parietal eye.  This is a third eye that we are not too sure about its uses.  Maybe this third eye was to help the Pliosaur tell where the surface was.

David slays the Lion coloring page

This is my free coloring pages blog.  There are over 2000 drawings that I have done that you can print to color.  Today's new drawing is of David.  It is of David the shepherd boy taking on a lion. 

David slays the Lion

David is known for slaying Goliath the giant.  However, before King Saul allowed David to face off with Goliath, David, explained how he, David, had killed both a lion and a bear that tried to take  David's father's sheep.  Of course, David won this battle.  He had skills but he also had great power from his faith in God.  Therefore God had given David the strength to kill the lion, the bear, and later Goliath.

By the way, I drew this in church yesterday. Drawing actually helps me focus and pay better attention to the talks and lessons in the Sunday meetings.

Skarlawynn the Woodland Elf Princess

Skarlawynn is a beautiful Woodland Elf.  She is also an Elven Princess. She is seen here by a forest stream.  She is wearing a traditional Elven Princess crown and belt. She truly is spectacularly beautiful.  In this type of coloring page medium and style, I can only hope to capture a small part of her beauty.  Of course, she is also a very kind and loving person.  

An old Elven saying says:  

All those who fail to love will be bitter

They will wander in life and be lost

But love makes you shine like bright glitter

You take the risk and sometimes pay the cost

But your love can be reawoken

Your heart once again learns to sing

Yes, your heart was once broken

Rilia the Mushroom Fairy coloring page

Today's drawing is of a beautiful Mushroom Fairy.

Rilia the Mushroom Fairy

This is Rilia.  She is a Mushroom Fairy.  She is gifted at fungi identification. Fairies know how to identify edible mushrooms from poisonous toadstools.  Mushrooms are considered a delicacy in the Fairy Community.  There are also medicinal uses of some fungi and Mushroom Fairies, like Rilia, can identify them.  She will also gather mushrooms for her village.  She can use her magic to miniaturize mushrooms and then return them to their normal size when she gets the fungi home to her village.  

In this drawing, Rilia is sitting on a fly agaric mushroom.  These are not a safe mushroom to eat in that there are many mushrooms in this family that are deadly.  Others are hallucinogenic.  But if you identify it wrong you will certainly die.  This type of mushroom is red with white spots. 

There ARE some mushrooms with medicinal properties and Rilia certainly knows how to identify those.

Chinchilla coloring page

Chinchilla in the Mountains

Chinchillas are somewhat small rodents that live in the Andes Mountains of South America.  They can thrive at altitudes up to 14-15,000 feet.  That is way too high of an elevation for most people to tolerate.  Heck, with MY breathing problems, I need supplemental oxygen at elevations above 6000 feet. Chinchillas are about 9-14 inches or 23-36 cm. long.  They have the thickest fur of any animal.

Chinchillas are kept as pets as well as living in the wild.  This drawing is based on the photo I took of a chinchilla that I saw in the local Petsmart. I added the Andes Mountains background and did leaves instead of the hay bale the chinchilla was feeding on.

Skarlawynn the Elf Princess & Zakarin the Dwarf Warrior coloring page

Today's new drawing is of an Elven Princess who married a Dwarf Warrior!

Skarlawynn the Elf Princess & Zakarin the Dwarf Warrior

This was a match made for the ages.  Skarlawynn and Zakarin first met each other when her group of traveling Elves were ambushed by goblins.  Zakarin proved his bravery by taking out many of the goblins singlehandedly.  Well, Zakarin and his ax took them down.  The Elves invited him to travel with them and as they say, the rest is history.  As they traveled Skarlawynn fell in love with Zakarin's piercing blue eyes.  He was amazed that a creature as wonderful as her would love him.  But love each other they did.  

You may think that this is an odd match and you would be wrong.  Any happily married couple finds each other in their own unique way. Their way to happiness is their business and nobody else's.

Review of The Chosen and My Perspective on Jesus Christ with a coloring page drawing of Jesus' Resurrection

Today's new drawing, since it is Sunday, is another drawing 

of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Jesus is resurrected from the Tomb after 3 Days

Jesus was and IS our Savior.  Let me explain.  Before we came to Earth to receive our mortal bodies we lived in what is called our Premortal Existence.  Our Heavenly parents, or our Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother are the parents of our spirits.  But our Heavenly Parents had and still have physical bodies.  They sent us to Earth to get a physical body.  Here we are tested to see if we will be worthy to return to live with Them.

When we sin, and all mortals sin, we have violated eternal law.  So we can never return to live with our Heavenly Parents. So while we were still in our Premortal Life our Elder Spirit Brother, Jesus Christ, agreed to suffer and die to pay the eternal penalty for our sins. So if we repent of our sins and strive to do better we can return to live with our Heavenly Parents. Of course, we also need to obey God's commandments including being baptized by one who has authority, and making our Temple Covenants - including being sealed in the Temple to our eternal companion or spouse.  All those who do not have the opportunity in mortality to marry and be sealed will eventually have that opportunity in the next life.  After our mortal body dies our spirit goes to what we call the Spirit World.  Our spirit can never die and indeed will never die.  Then we will go to one of the Kingdoms of Glory.  If we have received the ordinances needed and kept God's commandments... and repented of our sins the Atonement of Jesus Christ will make us clean and worthy to return to live with our Heavenly Parents in the Celestial Kingdom.  

I should also mention that Jesus' resurrection broke down the doors of permanent death.  His resurrection means we ALL will be resurrected and get our physical bodies back.  However, when we are resurrected our physical bodies will be glorified and perfected.  We won't ever get sick or injured.  Health challenges we deal with now will not be a problem... (like me having a tracheotomy, a tracheal stent, and needing a pacemaker). Obviously, I look forward to resurrection day.  Praise be to our Savior Jesus Christ for making that possible. 

The above is the perspective of Jesus that we have as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  We ARE Christians.   

REVIEW OF THE CHOSEN:  This drawing was inspired by the actor who plays Jesus in The Chosen TV series.   This drawing is not an exact portrayal of that actor as Jesus as seen on The Chosen.  For instance, I gave Jesus in this drawing longer hair.  The actor's name is Jonathan Rounie.  He does an amazing job.  I highly recommend the series.  It really helps you appreciate more the world where Jesus lived in his short sojourn on Earth.  Of course, Jesus was half god and half man so we can't call His time on Earth as His mortal life. The Chosen has a perspective that I think will ring true for MOST Christians.  My daughter says that Jonathan Roumie's portrayal of the Savior is the best she has ever seen.  She says, "It makes you appreciate Jesus as being a real person."  The Chosen is a non-denominational portrayal of Jesus' life and again, I think that they do a spectacular job!  This drawing is not from the TV show because the series has not yet gotten to the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord.  The Chosen is a wonderful series and I hope you will give watching it a chance.  It is available on a free app and on several streaming services.
