Dragons & Pterosaurs - Pterosaur named for Game Of Thrones House Targaryen and a Firedrake Dragon coloring pages

Today's new drawings are of a Pterosaur from Germany and a pair of 

Firedrake Dragons.  This type of dragon is known from German legends. 

Since all depicted animals are from Germany, I will be translating and posting this in German as well. 

These drawings are a part of my series of Dinosaurs or Pterosaurs named after Dragons. 

Targaryendraco

Targaryendraco was a relatively large Pterosaur from what is now Germany.  It lived in the Early Cretaceous or about 130 million years ago.  Its Genus name comes from the Game of Thrones house called House Targaryen.  That house raises dragons.  The Paleontologist who identified the species is named Rodrigo V. Pegas.  He admits to being a big fan of the Game Of Thrones show.  The name means "Targaryen Dragon."  

He is the one who figured out that the fossils of this Pterosaur were misclassified.  He realized that the fossilized bones belonged NOT to a type of Ornithochierus, but to a new type of Pterosaur with a very narrow jaw.  The new family of narrow and sharp jaw Pterosaur is named after Targaryendroco

The wingspan on Targaryendraco was between 9.5 to 13 feet wide.  That is about 3 to 4 meters wide.  This Pterosaur is now the first in a new clade of toothed Pterosaurs with very narrow and long snouts or jaws.  The clade is named Targaryendraconia. 

Now about Dragons...

Firedrake Dragons come from legends that originate in Germany.  The Firedrake Dragons love treasure and will steal it wherever they can.  They then horde the treasure for years.  They are also known to sleep for years.  They usually sleep on top of their treasure.  

IF you are a Lord Of The Rings fan you will recognize that the dragon named Smaug is a Firedrake Dragon.  There are dragons in the Game of Thrones books and shows.  Those dragons have 4 limbs, with their wings being part of their arms.  There are also Firedrakes depicted with 4 limbs and wings as extra limbs.  That is how the young Firedrake is drawn.  It is resting on a ledge, getting ready for its first flight.  

So, if you look at the below drawings of dragons... the first Dragon is an adult Firedrake Dragon that is drawn in the Game Of Thrones style.  The second is a juvenile Firedrake Dragon that is drawn with basically six limbs... if you count its wings.

Today's new drawing is an Outdoors Fairy named Kaylia.

Kaylia the Outdoors Fairy

Kaylia is an Outdoors Fairy.  This does not mean that she chooses to not live underground.  She lives in the Bryce Canyon National Park.  She goes home at night to her village which is under a Juniper tree.  But during the day she stays out in the sun.  She is one of the rare Fairies who internalized her wings and went to Mortal college.  She works as a park ranger in Bryce Canyon National Monument.  

There are only a few Fairies who choose to join the mortal world.  Kaylia is gifted in her understanding of the Natural World.  So she decided to get a mortal education so she could work in the open.  She even worked at a shoe store to help pay for her mortal education.  She is considering getting an advanced degree so she can become a Park Naturalist.  

Look closely at the drawing and you will see that Kaylia is holding TWO wands.  Most Fairies carry only one wand, but Kaylia has a wand for general use and a second wand for helping wildlife.  Look at the belt too.  She is wearing a flying belt or "volantum balteum."  The Fairy communities, that are hidden all around us, have technology that far surpasses the technology that we mortals have.  Fairy magic is actually a combination of high tech and what we mortals might call good magic.  

When you see Kaylia in the mortal world she is mortal size.  She is mortal size in this drawing.  But she has the ability to go to Fairy size of about 5 inches (or about 13 cm).  She goes to mortal size when she goes home at night.  She is seen in this drawing right before she goes to Fairy size.  She has also removed her ear concealment charm and externalized her wings.  

This may surprise you to find out that rangers who work at national parks are often aware of the Fairy Realm.  National parks are a favorite place for Fairies to make their home.

Fuzzy Fuzzy Little Fawn - song parody to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star & some other drawings species from the Deer Family coloring pages

 

Fuzzy Fuzzy Little Fawn

(This is a new drawing and a new song parody.) 

A few weeks ago I was visiting my daughter and her family.  Her eldest child, who is also our eldest granddaughter, and I made up this song parody together, so I drew a Mule Deer fawn on the page where I wrote down the lyrics to this song parody.  It is sung to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.   The song parody is called:  Fuzzy Fuzzy Little Fawn.  

About Mule Deer.  .  .  they are the most common local deer here out West, including here in Utah.  They are bigger than the White-tail deer that they have back in the Eastern part of the United States and Canada.  Adult male mule deer are around 5 feet long.  The females are a bit smaller.  The large males have 4 or 5 points per antler.  The bucks weigh between 120 lbs for a spike and 330 lbs for a 4 or 5 point large buck.  A spike is a young deer that is at least a year old and that has one point on each antler.  A spike's antlers do not branch.  

Mule deer get their name from the large mule-like ears.  They live in a wide range in Western North America.  They live from Alaska clear down into Mexico.  Mule deer are browsers so they eat herbaceous plants... A.K.A. weeds... and leaves and twigs from bushes and even from parts of some trees... if they can reach the branches.  Mule deer live 9 to 11 years in the wild.  

Some of the trees that Mule Deer eat are very common around here.  They include Quaking Aspen, Gambel's Oak-including the acorns, Big Tooth Maple.  What is weird is that in Utah the Mule Deer prefer browsing on the Gambel's Oak and in Arizona they prefer browsing on the Big Tooth Maple. 

Mule Deer fawns are born in the spring.  They weigh around 5.5 lbs or 2.2 kg.  The fawns are reddish brown with some white and are covered in white spots.  But when they are weaned at 60 to 75 days they start to lose their spots.  The yearling males are generally the spikes.

Pterosaurs & Dragons - Azhdarcho the Pterosaur & Azhdar the Persian Dragon 

There is the thought that dinosaur and pterosaur fossils are what gave rise to the legends and myths of dragons in many cultures throughout the world.  Because of this, I am posting drawings of dinosaurs or pterosaurs with dragon-related names.  Today's drawings are of a Pterosaur from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and a Persian dragon.   I will also be posting this in the languages of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.   I hope the online translation program gives a good translation.  I only speak English and Spanish and I know a few words and phrases in Russian.  

Azhdarcho was a fairly large Pterosaur that lived in the Cretaceous Period in what is now Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.  It was related to the enormous Quetzalcoatlus but was about half the size.  Azhdarcho had a wingspan of around 15 feet wide.  That is a wingspan of 4.6 meters.  (Quetzalcoatlus had a wingspan of up to 36 feet.)

Some paleontologists have hypothesized that Azdarcho could dive into the water and swim underwater to catch fish.   That is an intriguing idea.  Imagine a flying animal with a 15-foot wingspan diving into the sea to hunt fish.  

Azhdarcho is named after the Persian dragon called an Azhdar.  That dragon is supposed to be a long snake-like animal that lives in the sky.  It is also called Azhdahak, Azhdaha, and Ezhdaha.  Some stories say it starts out as a snake and when it grows big enough it becomes an Azhdar.  There are also stories of it living in the ocean or sea.  So I drew the Azhdar, or Azhdaha in the sea as well as in the sky.  

It seems appropriate that Azhdarcho got named after the Azhdar since Azhdarco may have been both a flyer and a swimmer... and Azhdars lived either in the air, or in the sea, or both.

Los jareditas son un grupo de personas que se mudaron del viejo mundo al nuevo mundo alrededor del año 2,200 a.C. Fueron llevados lejos de la Torre del Bable por Dios. Finalmente se establecieron en el Nuevo Mundo en algún lugar. Hay especulaciones entre los miembros de La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días acerca de dónde vivían los jareditas. También se especula acerca de dónde vivían los nefitas, los mulequitos y los lamanitas. Los malvados sufren por sus pecados en el Mundo de los Espíritus.

También debo mencionar que los jareditas se volvieron muy malvados después de alrededor de 1,600 años y finalmente fueron aniquilados en una guerra civil que terminó alrededor del 600 a.C. Su último rey, Coriantamr, vivió el tiempo suficiente para ver a uno de los otros grupos poseer la tierra. Murió mientras vivía con los Mulekitas.
