Bicharracosaurus dionidei, a new Brachiosaur Sauropod from Argentina
What is so interesting about Bicharracosaurs is that it is actually a type of Brachiosaur. Previously, Brachiosaurs were known only from Europe, Africa, and North America. None had been found in South America. So this indicates migration because during this time of the Jurassic Period of about 155 million years ago, the supercontinent of Pangea had only partly broken up. Before this discovery, the main Saurpods known from South America were the huge Titanosaurs like Patagotitan and Argentinosaurus. Those Titanosaurs were much larger and lived much later than Bicharrocosaurus.
"Bicharracosaurus" means "large animal lizard." It was 20 meters long or 65 feet long. Although a Brachiosaur, it has some features that look like a Diplodocus. It was a long-necked Sauropod. The species name of "dionidei" honors the shepherd from Argentina who found the first fossilized bones.
