Juvenile Allosaurus
(New drawing today)
Allosaurus was the top predator of the Late Jurassic. It was up to 40 feet long and had large three-clawed hands for slashing prey... as well as many sharp teeth in a big Theropod mouth. In the Cleveland Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry in Eastern Utah, they found 46 Allosaaurus in this quarry. It was possibly a predator trap where an animal got stuck in the mud and the predators came along and thought "Free food!" But then the predators got stuck in the mud too. The quarry also had several species of herbivorous dinosaurs and a few more species of predatory dinosaurs besides Allosaurus. This included one Torvosaurus, a type of Allosaur that was more robust than Allosaurus. So it was beefier and had bigger bones. There also was one Ceratosaurus. This was a more primitive Theropod that possibly was outcompeted by Allosaurus and Torvosaurus and thus went extinct before the two larger predatory Theropod dinosaurs. But there were more Allosaurus than any other type of dinosaur in what may have been a dinosaur and especially a predator trap.
