Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!
Today's new drawing is of a Bee Fairy named after the famous
French Entomologist Latreille.
Bee Fairy named Latreille
There are many Fairies that are specialized. Bee Fairies are a specialized type of Fairy. They help and care for bees... especially Honeybees. Honeybees are responsible for pollinating over 70% of our food. They are not particularly aggressive either. The honeybee has been domesticated for almost as long ago than the dog.
Bees were actually domesticated between 10,000 and 8,500 years ago... when humans first started doing agriculture... AKA farming. The drawing above shows a Bee Fairy named Latreille with a Honeybee.
Bees make wax or beeswax. They, of course, make honey as well. Humans have been harvesting honey from wild bees before the bees were domesticated. Ancient pottery shows that beeswax was present in the pottery.
Recently a problem has killed many bees. It is called Colony Collapse Disorder.
Pierre Andre' Latreille was a Roman Catholic Priest in France. He was the premiere entomologist of his day. He was imprisoned at the start of the French Revolution but was freed when he discovered a new species of beetle in his cell.
This drawing shows Latreille the Bee Fairy with a Honeybee. Latreille the Bee Fairy was named after this famous French entomologist.
