Welcome or welcome back to my free coloring pages blog!
Today's new drawing is a Caddisfly Fairy wading in a small stream!
Caddisfly Fairy
Caddisflies are amazing insects. They build the home that they live in as a larva. The larvae use rocks, tiny sticks, or whatever they find in the water. Caddisfly larvae live in the water. The adults emerge from the water.
As larvae, caddisflies build a caddis case. This is their home while they live in the water. When they emerge as adults they have wings and they leave the caddis case behind. SOME caddisflies don't build a case so they are called "caseless Caddisflies." In this drawing, there is a caddisfly larva in the water and inside its self-built case. Two adult caddisflies are flying up to the Fairy.
Caddisfly Fairies make their clothing in the same way as caddisflies. The Caddisfly Fairies use small rocks and tiny twigs etc. to make their outfits. THIS Caddisfly Fairy is named Candissia. Canddissia will hang out with caddisflies when they emerge from the water. When the larvae are still in the water Canddissia can transform to caddisfly larva size and hang out with the larvae. Canddissia has wings that are similar to caddisfly wings.
Caddisflies have an affinity for artificial light. So one of Caddissia's challenges is to keep the caddisflies away from lights and especially things like campfires.
