Joseph Smith as a Boy walking by a River
(new drawing)
Joseph Smith was a prophet, But he was a boy first. As a boy he had to undergo an operation for an infected bone in his leg. Later, when he was 14 there was a lot of excitement around his town converting religion. Joseph went to several meetings of different churches. Joseph wanted to know which church was the true church of Christ. While reading the Holy Bible Joseph came across James 1 verse 5 that tells the reader to ask God if they lack wisdom.
Jospeh did just that. He went out to a grove of trees near his father's farm to pray about which church at the time was true. He was told to join none of them and he was told he would be instrumental in helping restore the full Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was told this by Jesus Himself and in the vision, the Father or Father in Heaven introduced His son Jesus and told Joseph, "This is My Beloved Son, Hear Him."
