Albertosaurus coloring pages

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawing is an Albertosaurus.

Albertosaurus by a Stream
(new drawing)

Albertosaurus was a large Theropod Dinosaur from the Cretaceous Period.  It lived in what is now Alberta, Canada.  Albertosaurus may have been an ancestor of Tyrannosaurus rex.  At the very least Albertosaurus was off the same Evolutionary Branch as T. rex.  But Albertosaurus appeared on Earth well before T. rex.  Albertosaurus first appeared about 100 million years ago while T. rex did not appear until about 84 million years ago.  Both species went extinct at the end of the Cretaceous 66 million years ago.

The longest T. rex was about 42 feet long.  The longest Albertosaurus was around 30 feet long.
Albertosaurus weighed between  2,900 - 5,500 lbs... or about 1,300 - 2,500 kg.  In comparison, Tyrannosaurus rex weighed up to 14 tons.

Albertosaurus was still a very successful predator.  It really appears that T. rex evolved off of a branch of the Albertosaurus tree.  Basically, T. rex and Albertosaurus... along with Daspleteosaurus were all Tyrannosaurs.

The Pterosaurs are Pteranodons that had a wingspan of around 18 feet or about 5,5 meters.

NOTE:  Below is an older drawing of an Albertosaurus.  Both these drawings, in printable form, can be found by clicking on the top button labeled "Paleontology."  Then scroll down to the bottom of the list of drawings for the new Albertosaurus drawing.
