If you take the atomic mass or amu of a hydrogen molecule or H2 you get 2 amu or 2 atomic mass units. That makes hydrogen gas the least dense of all gasses. This also makes the hydrogen gas much less dense than air. Hence the Hindenburg Zeppelin could float. The hydrogen in it made it lighter than air.
To get the atomic mass of methane you count one amu for each of the 4 hydrogen atoms and add 12 amu for the one carbon atom. Methane is CH
Nitrogen molecules or N2 has an amu of 28, and N2 is 78% of the atomosphere.
Oxygen molecules or O2 has an amu of 32, and O2 is 21% of the atomosphere.
1% of the atmosphere is trace elements like argon and helium.
So... do the following:
28 x .78 = _____
32 x .21 =_____
Now add the two numbers and you get the approximate amu or atomic mass of air. . . on average.
You will notice that the answer shows that air is much more dense than either Hydrogen gas or Oxygen gas. So I guess we know know why dragons can fly. . . or COULD fly if they are or were real. You should also know that the idea that dragons can or could breathe fire...well...both hydrogen gas and methane gas are flammable.
Interesting point is that dragons are part of the mythology of many many cultures all over the world. Some people think mythology is often based upon at least some grain of truth.
Then again there is the thought that perhaps the ancients found dinosaur an pterosaur fossilized skeletons and that led to the idea of dragons.
