Mommy Long Island Duck had babies three

To the farmer's delight

There was no place they would rather go

Long Island Ducks are white. They were imported from China to Long Island, New York, in 1873. They are a domesticated breed of duck and are raised in many parts of the world now.

Chipmunk coloring page

Today's new coloring page is of a Chipmunk in an Oak Tree.

Chipmunk Juvenile on an Oak Tree Branch 

There are 25 species of chipmunks. Some are 5 inches long, and some are up to 11 inches long - if you count the length of the tail. They are a type of small squirrel. But chipmunks all have racing stripes on their face and down their back. Some nest in trees and some in underground dens. 24 species of chipmunks live in North America. The Eastern Chipmunk is the largest at 11 inches long.

The Siberian Chipmunk lives in most of Northern Asia and in some parts of East-Central Asia. Some live in far Eastern Europe. By the way, all chipmunks are small squirrels, but not all squirrels are chipmunks. Squirrels are larger and lack the racing stripes. 

Chipmunks are herbivores and are excellent climbers. They have cheek pouches to hold food. They store large amounts of food in underground burrows. This food is kept for the winter. Chipmunks take long sleeps, or torpor, in the winter. But they do not truly hibernate. They wake up from time to time to eat their stored food... like acorns, pine nuts, etc. Chipmunks rely very heavily on acorns if there are oak trees around. 

You can tell that this is not quite an adult because the chipmunk has the "cuteness factor" of a larger head-to-body ratio. Many young vertebrate animals have the cuteness factor. This young chipmunk was old enough to live outside the nest and fend for himself. 

THIS drawing is based on a chipmunk my daughter photographed in the Black Hills of Western South Dakota. The only species in the Black Hills is the Least Chipmunk. It is the smallest species of chipmunk. They weigh less than 2 ounces, or less than half a gram. I should add that the background is more like the Rocky Mountains. The Black Hills are covered in conifers- pines, spruce, & firs.

I should mention that Unicorns are like Fairies in that Unicorns are magical beings who are sentient. Unicorns and Fairies are friends - often best friends. 

Birds of Psalm 102 coloring pages

Great White Pelican in the Wilderness

From Psalm 102:6

The Great White Pelican is the pelican from the Old World... that is, Europe, Asia, and Africa. It is the second-biggest flying bird. It has a wingspan of up to 11 feet 10 inches, or 360 cm. It feeds mostly on fish. It migrates great distances and lives in flocks - often large flocks. It often fishes in large groups. They are monogamous each breeding season, meaning they choose a different mate each season, but they mate with that chosen mate each year.

From Psalm 102:6

The Pharaoh Eagle Owl is generally a desert bird that lives in the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East. It is a medium-sized owl with a wingspan of up to 5 feet 6 inches, or around 140 cm. This owl nests in rocky cliffs and high-up caves. It has yellow eyes and tawny feathers with some darker spots.

Psalm 102:7

Dead Sea Sparrows live in the Middle East and therefore, of course, in Israel. It also lives in parts of Southwest Asia. It is a small bird with a short tail. They grow be up to 5 or so inches or around 13 cm. They are the sparrow Jesus talked about in his Sermon on the Mount. 

Now let's talk about why these birds are mentioned in Psalm 102.  This psalm is the prayer of a person going through trials. They are crying out to God. If David wrote it, then it would make sense that he would mention birds. After all, he was a shepherd out in Nature way before he was the King of Israel. Some scholars think the song was written after Israel was in captivity because it mentions Jerusalem in ruins. I suppose that may be correct. But maybe David was prophesying in this psalm about the later destruction of Jerusalem. There ARE prophecies in some parts of the Psalms. In any case, it is obvious that the composer of Psalm 102 appreciated birds. I can relate. My wife and I are "birders."

2 Dinosaur Coloring Pages for Young Kids to color

Today's two new coloring page drawings I did are of 

two well-known dinosaurs. These are drawn for younger kids to color. 

For the past few days and for the next few days, I am posting simpler drawings I have done or am doing

for younger kids to color. Coloring is great for developing hand-eye coordination in young kids.

 T. rex and Pteranodon Kids meet a Mammal

I should say that this is a KID drawing, so it is NOT a dinosaur and a pterosaur meeting and eating a mammal. Interspecies friends ARE seen sometimes in our modern natural world. For example, ravens and wolves play and work together.

Didelphodon is the name of the mammal. It was about as big as a badger. It probably was active at night, so it was probably nocturnal. You probably recognize the T. rex and the Pteranodon. T. rex was a dinosaur, but Pteranodon was a Pterosaur or flying reptile. These flying reptiles are also called Pterosaurs. Pterosaurs are NOT flying dinosaurs. The Pteranodon and Triceratops are both juveniles or "kids," but the Didelphodon is an adult animal. 

Notice the volcano. Volcanic activity was particularly high in the Late Cretaceous Period when these animals lived. 

These animals all lived in the Cretaceous in North America. Underground you see a fossilized skeleton of a Stegosaurus... an armored dino of the Jurassic Period. Even deeper, you see the skeleton of a non-dinosaur that is sometimes confused with dinosaurs. It is buried deeper because it lived BEFORE the dinosaurs. This non-dinosaur is a Dimetrodon from the Permian Period of the Paleozoic Era. The Paleozoic Era was BEFORE the Mesozoic Era. The Mesozoic Era was the era of the dinosaurs. 

Young Triceratops & Magnusavis meet a Young Troodon 

Magnusavis was a Cretaceous bird of North America. There WERE birds in the Cretaceous. Birds had already evolved from Theropod dinosaurs. Technically, flying birds ARE flying dinosaurs. Triceratops was a horned dinosaur from North America. Troodon was a "raptor" dinosaur from North America. All these animals lived in North America in the Cretaceous Period of the Mesozoic Era. These are all juveniles or "kids." 

IN the ground, you see a fossilized and buried skeleton of a Jurassic dinosaur... a young Allosaurus. Do you see the unhatched and now fossilized dino eggs underground?

The Ugly Duckling meets a Swan

The Ugly Duckling meets a Swan

I think that in the original story of the Ugly Duckling, the cygnet does not discover that he is a swan until he has grown up. In some video and children's book versions, he is still a cygnet when he finds out and is brought into a swan family. But in any version, the moral of the story is that the outsider or disenfranchised can turn out to be the most beautiful or best of all. 

In this drawing or coloring page, you see the "Ugly Duckling" as a cygnet or juvenile swan. He is meeting a female swan who accepts him and helps him realize that he is a swan. The mother duck who rejected the Ugly Duckling is seen further back and behind the mother swan. Her ducklings are seen behind the mother swan, viewing the "brother" they rejected being accepted as a swan. The implication is that swans are a higher rank than ducks. The mother swan's other cygnets are not in this drawing. But they welcome the "Ugly Duckling" because he never was a duckling. He always was a baby swan or cygnet. 

This is a cartoon-ish drawing for younger kids to color. But of course, any age person is free to print and color it. There are no fees or any cost to view this page or print any coloring page. I do not do "online coloring" on this site because I taught kindergarten for a while, and I believe in the hand-eye coordination that comes from coloring with crayons.

This rather simple drawing is for younger kids to color. It is for kids who like airplanes or jet aircraft. These are imaginary aircraft, although they have some similarities to real jet fighters. 

Can you identify something or somethings that are different in each jet?

Birch Tree Fairy and Peacock Butterfly coloring page

 

Today's coloring page I drew for you is of a 

Birch Tree Fairy. She is with a Peacock Butterfly.

Tree Fairies - Betulia the Birch Tree Fairy

If you are a regular or long-term fan of this blog, then you know that Tree Fairies are Fairies that have an affinity for specific types of trees. This is a Birch Tree Fairy.  She is also a Butterfly Fairy. Her wings are similar to those of a Eurasian Peacock Butterfly. This Fairy is named Betulia. If you saw Betulia, you would probably only see a butterfly. Fairies have powerful magic that hides them from most mortals. Certain mortals are blessed with the opportunity to see Fairies. These mortals are called "Fairykind." Only very special, pure-hearted mortals get to be Fairykind. Maybe you are one of them.

Betulia is named for the genus of birch trees (Betula). The butterfly is a Peacock Butterfly. This type of butterfly is native to Europe and Asia, although it HAS been introduced in North America. Birch trees are very commonly visited by butterflies. Many species of butterflies lay their eggs on birch trees. Many also make their cocoons on birch trees. 

Birch Trees are, as mentioned before, Genus: Betula. There are several species of birch trees. They tend to live mostly in the Northern Hemisphere of North America, Asia, and Europe. These trees have white bark with dark lenticels on the white bark. These marks really contrast with the white bark.

Bruhathkayosaurusn from India - Possibly the Biggest Dinosaur Ever! coloring page

Bruhathkayosaurus. It may have been the

BIGGEST dinosaur EVER!

Bruhathkayosaurus was a gigantic animal. It was a Sauropod or long-necked dinosaur. It was also a Titanosaur. Titanosaurs include Argentinosaurus and Patagotitan. ONE Of these three dinosaurs was the biggest land animal ever to live. Bruhathkayosaurus lived in what is now India. It was possibly up to 150 feet or 46 meters long. It may have weighed up to 170 tons. Some older estimates put it at 240 tons. In comparison, a blue whale weighs up to 220 tons. 

We may never know because the original fossils were destroyed by a typhoon. The bones were in soft sandstone, and the flooding caused them to disintegrate into sand.  We only have some poor photographs and paleontologist drawings. Personally, I hope more fossils are found so we can clear up this mystery. Many paleontologists will not recognize this species because no hard evidence survived the typhoon and flooding. 

The name Bruhathkayosaurus means "huge-bodied lizard." The name comes from Sanskrit and Latin. Sanskrit is an ancient base language in India. It is kind of like Latin being the base language for several European languages. 

The Cretaceous Pterosaurs you see are 2 Pteranodons and a Quetzalcoatlus. The raptor in the foreground is not named, but several raptor dinosaur fragments have been found in India.

Jesus as a Young Carpenter coloring page

 Today on this, my free coloring pages site, I am posting a drawing I did of 

Jesus as a young carpenter.

Jesus as a Young Carpenter

We don't know a lot about Jesus' time as a young man. He started His ministry as a 30-year-old, and that was documented in the four Gospels. We know that He lived free of sin. His foster father, Joseph, was a good man and a carpenter. So it seems likely that Jesus worked as a carpenter. He lived in a small rural town called Nazareth. Jesus was obviously familiar with shepherds. He journeyed to another small town called Capernaum. However, Capernaum was actually much larger than Nazareth. It was in or near  Capernaum that Jesus found most of His Apostles. They came from various backgrounds. 

Notice the dove in the tree - signifying that Jesus has the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost with him. I’m sure the Holy Ghost was always with Jesus.

I am posting a drawing I did of a North American predator...

Deinonychus, the Theropod Dinosaur.

This was a small to medium-sized Theropod dinosaur... a type of raptor. Deinonychus grew to be up to 11 feet or 3.4 meters long. It lived in the early to Mid-Cretaceous Period in North America. It was probably a pack hunter. It had sharp claws and weighed around 220 pounds, or a mass of around 100 kg. It was deadly. It stood about 4 feet tall or about 1.22 meters. It did have the raptor killer-claw on the inside toe. I believe fossils of Deinonychus were found with the fossil of an Iguanodon that the Deinonychus pack had killed for dinner ... or breakfast ... or lunch. 

During the Early to Mid Cretaceous, much of a divided North America was a subtropical floodplain and subtropical forests. Here we see Deinonychus in the forest hunting. It has risen up higher on its back legs to look for food. It was hiding.

Nehemiah repairs the Walls of Jerusalem

The Jews had been allowed to return to Jerusalem. They had been in captivity in Babylon for 70 years. But Babylon had been overthrown, and eventually the king of Persia let the Jews return to their homeland. The Jews even received support to rebuild the walls by Artaxerxes, the King of Persia. He, the king, gave Nehemiah letters of safe passage, and he donated timber from his royal forests. Nehemiah had been a faithful servant of King Artaxerxes. In fact, Nehemiah was the king's cupbearer. This was an important position of trust. The Royal Cupbearer served wine to the king AFTER tasting it for safety. The Royal Cupbearer was also a trusted advisor with a lot of political power. So Nehemiah's honorable service and friendship to the king helped his people when they returned to Jerusalem.

A Jewish leader named Zerubbabel had led the return to Jerusalem, and he began to rebuild the Temple. Later, Ezra arrived and began to teach about the Torah. Then Nehemiah arrived and began to supervise the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem. Enemies of the Jews were a danger, so Nehemiah armed all the workers, and half of the workers kept guard during the reconstruction of the walls of Jerusalem.

Job in His Trials and Afterwards

Job was a good man. He was blessed with material blessings, a wife, and many children. But God tested him with many terrible trials. He lost all his children and all his wealth. One of those trials was boils all over his body. Yet in spite of all the suffering, Job never completely gave up on his faith in God. He was eventually blessed with great wealth and many more children. It is a lesson for us all. Of course, some trials are not over until our spirit passes on into Paradise. We will be blessed for faithfully enduring our trials. And one day our spirit and body will be reunited in uncorruptible glorified form. Then, those of us with severe health trials will get a body that is free of defects and illness. For instance, I will no longer have a tracheotomy tube. 

Our church is studying Job this week in Sunday School.

This is Equinus. He is a Unicorn Stallion and he is on a cliff surveying his domain. Unicorns appear to MOST mortals as wild horses. But to a few select mortals, the Unicorns appear as they really are. Unicorns have powerful magic to hide their true identity. Unicorn magic is always magic of light, not dark magic. Of course, Fairies, Elves, Dwarfs, Nyads, Druids & other magical beings can always see Unicorns in their true form.

Sonoran Desert Fairy with Kangaroo Rat and Desert Birds coloring page

Today, the new free coloring page I drew for you is of a 

Sonoran Desert Fairy. 

Sonoran Desert Fairy

This Desert Fairy, named Tash, is seen here with a kangaroo rat. There are also a few birds seen... a roadrunner, a cactus wren, and some birds of prey in the distance. Tash is friendly to all the desert animals, but she is particularly friendly with the smaller animals. She looks out for them. Here, it is sunset or sunrise because the shadows are on one side. Either the kangaroo rat is just waking up, or it's about to go into its burrow for the night. The cactus wren is on a saguaro cactus. These large cacti are found only in the Sonoran Desert of Southwest North America.

Estos dos animales eran de lo que hoy es España. Vivieron a principios del período Cretácico. Concavenator era un depredador terópodo bastante grande e inusual. Tenía hasta 20 pies (6 metros) de largo. Tenía una vela inusual, así como algunas plumas. Evidencia de plumas estaba en los codos de los brazos. La vela tenía algún tipo de uso en regulación térmica, identificación de especies o tal vez selección sexual. Concavenator era un pariente más pequeño de Cacharodonosaurus. Concavenator & Europejara Two Animals of Spain in the Mesozoic

 Today, on this free coloring pages blog, I am posting

a Coloring Page drawing I did of two Mesozoic Animals that 

lived in what is now Spain.

Concavenator & Europejara Mesozoic Animals from Spain

These two animals were from what is now Spain. They lived in the Early Cretaceous Period.  Concavenator was a fairly large and unusual Theropod predator. It was up to 20 feet (6 meters) long. It had an unusual sail as well as some feathers. Feather evidence was on the elbows of the arms.   The sail had some sort of use in thermal regulation, species identification, or maybe sexual selection. Concavenator was a smaller relative of Cacharodonosaurus. 

Europejara was a medium to Pterosaur. It had a rather large flat crest that it probably used like a rudder for steering. It had a wingspan of up to 13 feet or 4 meters. It was a toothless fish-eater.

Today's new coloring page I drew for you is of Jesus Christ.

 Jesus Confronts Corrupt Leaders

Jesus was kind and loving. He was especially kind to those who were hated or deemed sinners or of the lower class. He was also very blunt as he verbally castigated corrupt leaders who took advantage of the poor and used their position to enrich themselves. There are modern leaders who are corrupt and enrich themselves by using their position in unethical ways. There are even modern political and religious leaders who emphasize some commandments yet support the violation of other commandments. They will condemn some people and treat them very unkindly. Yet these leaders CLAIM to be Christians. They are being very un-Christian-like. 

Jesus did not condone sin, but he loved the sinners. He spent time with and ministered to tax collectors, Samaritans, fishermen, and a woman with an issue of blood. She was considered unclean. You were not even supposed to touch her. Of course, Jesus healed her. Jesus was kind and forgiving to the woman caught in adultery. He told her he did not condemn her and to go her way and sin no more.

Jesus criticized leaders and the wealthy who thought they were better than everyone else. Jesus taught rich people to be kind and generous. But he also was critical of rich people who were selfish. After Jesus' resurrection, the Apostle Peter was commanded to bring the Gospel of Repentance to everyone - including the Gentiles. And Jesus sent Paul to teach the Gentiles the Gospel.

Jesus Christ's message was that He came to Earth to suffer and die to pay the eternal price for our sins. His atonement opened the door for us to repent. But He also taught us to be kind and generous to all people. He taught us to not be full of hate or think we are better than others. Jesus taught that caring for the disenfranchised people, the vulnerable, the poor, and the stranger was very important. He even said that how you treat the least of the people was viewed as how we had treated Him. He said, 

     "Inasmuch as you did it unto the least of these my brethren, you did it unto me. Inasmuch as 

       you did it NOT unto the least of these my brethren, you did not do it unto me."

I would hope that in this violent, divisive time, more people would try to be more like Jesus and be kind to the stranger, the poor, the immigrant, the refugee, and the foreigner. If we all were being kind to foreigners, then there would be no war. Sadly, there still are wicked people that good people still have to defend themselves from.  And corrupt leaders still cause much suffering in the world. 

If we all were kind to the poor, refugees, and immigrants, the world would be a much kinder place. I believe that the 1000 years of peace that the world will have when Jesus returns in glory (His second coming) will be because all people will choose to be kind to everyone. 

Did you see the dive in the wall? The dive represents that the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit is with Jesus.

Zhengheornis buyu - A Missing Link Bird-like Dinosaur coloring page

Today, the new coloring page drawing I did  

is Zhengheornis, a missing link between dinosaurs and birds.

Zhengheornis buyu a Missing Link

Zhengheornis buyu was discovered in 2024 in China. It was a very small bird-like dinosaur. It had only 15 tail vertebrae. This is fewer tail vertebrae than other feathered dinosaurs. It was only about 8 inches or 20 cm in length, and it only weighed around 1/3 of a pound. That is a mass of about 160 grams. So it was very, very small. It was a Theropod, but not a giant Theropod like Allosaurus. 

Modern birds have 5-9 tail vertebrae. Then they have some fused vertebrae that are called the pygostyle. The pygostyle is one bone. Early avian or bird-like dinosaurs had many more vertebrae and no pygostyle. But Zhengheornis had a number of vertebrae that is between the number of vertebrae of modern birds (avian dinosaurs) and ancient Theropod dinosaurs.  

For Example:  Microraptor was an ancient flying dinosaur that had 24-26 tail vertebrae. Zhengheornis had 15 tail vertebrae. Modern birds or modern avian dinosaurs have 5-9 tail vertebrae with an added solid fused bone called the pygostyle. Zhengheornis did not have the pygostyle, but it DID have fewer tail vertebrae than dinos like Microraptor.  With its reduced tail size, Zhengheornis could fly better than more primative flying dinosaurs. Zhengheornis may well be the smallest dinosaur ever discovered. 

So again, Zhengheornis is considered a missing link between birds and dinosaurs. But remember, birds are also considered Avian Dinosaurs. By the way, the Pterosaurs in the background are Rhamphorhynchus. They were NOT flying dinos. They were flying reptiles.

Spinosaurus mirabilis a Newly Discovered Spinosaur with a Sword-like Crest

Today's new coloring page I drew is of 

Spinosaurus mirabilis from what is now the Sahara Desert.

In this coloring page, we see Spinosaurus mirabilis fishing. It is about to grab a gar fish. Spinosaurus mirabilis was related to Spinosaurus aegypticus. But this newly discovered dinosaur had some differences from other Spinosaurs. Spinosaurus mirabilis had a large sword-like or scythe-like crest on its head. This was probably for sexual display or/and to identify the species to other members of the species. 

Another difference from Spinosaurus aegypticus is that Spinosaurus mirabilis had proportionally longer back legs. This made this new Spinosaur more of a wader, and not fully aquatic like the well-known Spinosaurus aegypticus. However, the long flattened tail on Spinosaurus miraculous indicates that it could swim as well. Spinosaurus mirabilis was also smaller than Spinosaurus aegypticus. Spinosaurus mirabilis was around 40 feet long. This is roughly the size of a Tyrannosaurus rex. Although the two species did not live in the same part of the world nor at the same time. 

I should mention that this type of Spinosaur had a large sail on its back, like Spinosaurus aegypticus. And the name Spinosaurus mirabilis means: "Astonishing Spine Lizard!" I should also mention the Pterosaur seen flying in the background. It was also from what is now the Sahara Desert. Back in that time period around 95 million years ago, the land was much different. It was a riparian environment or a river floodplain. That is very different from the huge desert that is there now.
