Fairies are very friendly with Unicorns.  This is a Fairy, in her natural diminutive state and she is levitating an apple for her young Unicorn friend.  Later this Fairy might use her magic to enlarge herself just enough to go for a ride on her friend.

So what is the point of Chrstianity?  It is that there is eternal conequences for breaking God's commandments.  We ALL sin so we all have broken God's commandments.  So the consequence is that we don't get to return to live with our Heavenly Father . . . also known as God.  

EXCEPT that God provided his Only Begotten Son to be our Savior.  Jesus paid the eternal price for our sins so becasue of Him we CAN return to live with our Heavenly Father IF we repent and try to do better.  So we must believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior and our Advocate with the Father.  HE pleads our case and pionts out to His Father and our Heavenly Father that the eternal price for our sins is paid.  

Jesus also knows, because of His suffering, how we feel in our suffering.  Some of our suffering in mortality is because of our sins.  Some is because of sins of others.  And some is due to health or lonliness etc.  Jesus can comfort us no matter what our source of pain.  

Jesus suffered in Gethsemane and on the cross for our sins.  We all have the opportunity to repent if we will take it.  We all have the chance to try to live and keep the commandments as best as we can.  We should serve our fellowman and always be kind.  But when things go wrong we have our Savior to turn to.   

So don't dispair.  God loves you enough to send His Son to Earth for YOU.  

Why was the Temple important to Jesus?  Because it was His Father's House.  We members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints also believe in the Temple.  We believe that we can be sealed to our spouse and to our children for time and all eternity in God's Temple.  We believe that we can then live as families in God's Kingdom.  We have many Temples all over the world.

We also believe that God is fair so he has prepared a way to help His children who never had a good chance to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  So those who died without knowing the Gospel get a chance to hear the Gospel in the next life. . . in the Spirit World.  Then mortals can be baptized as proxy for them and sealed for them in the Temple. 

To me, a sinner for sure, I am so grateful for the opportunity that Jesus gave me to repent of my sins.  And I am so happy that I am sealed to my wife.   I hope to live with my Family one day in God's Celestial Kingdom.  One day I hope to look into Jesus' eyes and thank Him for all He did for me. . . and for my family, and for all of Mandkind.

Diamantinasaurus matildae The Waltzing Matilda Dinosaur

Diamantinasaurus matildae

The Australian dinosaur Diamantinasaurus matildae was named for the Dimantina River and the song Waltzing Matilda.  It was found in Queensland, Australia.  The armor or osteoderms that you see in the drawing are known in other Titanosaurs that are similar so it is a possiblility that Diamantiansaurus had these.  This was a large herbivore and both a Sauropod and a Titanosaur.  It was not near as big as some known Titanosaurs.  It was still no tiny animal.  It was up to 52 feet or 16 meters long.  It possibly weighed up to 22 tons.  It lived in the Early Cretaceous Period of the Mesozoic Era.

The Pterosaurs in the background, flying over the forest, are also an Australian animal.  Oops. . . .I should say they WERE an Australian animal.  They are, of course, exticnt now.  They are called Mythunga.  It lived in the Early Cretaceous Period as well.  It was not the largest Pterosaur, but it was still pretty big.  It had a wingspan of 15 feet or 4.7 meters.  It is known from only a few fosslilized bones.

Battle of Baltimore, Fort McHenry

The Battle of Baltimore included the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the a huge fleet of the British Royal Navy.   The bombardment went all night but the Americans did not surrender.  Francis Scott Key, an American Lawyer (Francis Scott Key) had gone on board the british flagship to plead the case for an American doctor who had been taken prisoner.  The doctor had taken care of British wounded along with the American wounded men.  Mr. Key had brought along letters from wounded British sodiers testifying to the fact that Dr. Beans had treated them.  So the British Admiral had kindly granted that Dr. Beans would be released, but not until the British Navy completed their attack on Fort McHenry.  

After a harrowing night on board the British ship, watching the bombardment, Key strained to see if the fort had surrendered.  In the morning, when Francis Scott Key saw that the American flag still flew over the fort, he wrote the words to a poem called The Defense of Fort McHenry.  That poem would be put to music and become The Star Spangled Banner. . . the National Anthem of the United States of America.  So Happy Independence Day (in four days) to any of you who are from the United States!

NOTE:  The top picture is a drawing of a portion of Fort McHenry during the bombardment.  There were 1,000 American soldiers defending the fort.  This drawing was not done with any models so honestly, it is not my best work, but it is what it is.  I wanted to make a drawing for the Fourth of July.  The 4th of July is Independence Day in the United States of America.  I will also admit that the flag was much larger than in the above drawing.  I have seen it at the Smithsonian in Washington

Operating Room

On a personal note:  I will be having my tracheal stent replaced on Tuesday so if you are a Believer in God, please pray for me.  We are scheduled to leave soon for our Australian Outback trip and we don't want anything going wrong in the surgery to block our trip.  I will be doing a post of a few more drawings of Australian animals before we go.

Spinosaurus was the largest known Theropod.  It was around 55 feet long and weighed somewhere around 46,000 lbs or 20,865 kg.  It probably mostly fed on large Coelocanths and large Sawfish.  

The original fossils of Spinosaurus were destroyed in World War II by Allied Bombers.  

The museum was across the street from Nazi headquarters.  So the museum and Spinosaurus were collateral damage.  The paleontologist who found Spinosaurus, in Egypt, was a German named Ernst Von Reichenbach.  He was worried about the specimen being destroyed by Allied bombs so he begged the museum director to let him move the Spinosaurus fossil somewhere else.  At the time it was the only know specimen of Spinosaurus.  But, the museum director was a Nazi and he refused.  So when the Allied bombers targeted the Nazi headquarters across the street, the museum was destroyed too.  Back then strategic bombers, like the B-24 below, would drop bombs over a large area to hit the inteneded target.  

On a side note, this area bombing really bothered my father, who, long before he was my father, was a U.S. Bomber pilot who felt terrible about the fact that the bombs he was dropping was killing people.  If not for the war he would have been on a mission for his church. . . The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. . . But he volunteered for pilot training after Pearl Harbor was bombed.  His two best friends also volunteered to be pilots but they both failed to survive the war.  Dad used to say, "I should be teaching those children the Gospel, not dropping bombs on them."  By the way, after the war he went to Medical School and became a small town physician.  He delivered thousands of babies and did a lot of good as a physician. . . including saving my life by doing emergency tracheotomies several times.  

Thankfully, another set of Spinosaurus fossils was found in Morocco a couple of years ago.  There is an excellent Nova Episode called Bigger Than T. rex.  The documentary is very well done and tells an amazing and true tale of how the new Spinosaurus was found.  This great discovery revealed that Spinosaurus probably walked on all fours and lived rather like a crocodile.  (See the drawing below.)

Western Grey Kangaroo

The Western Grey Kangaroo has the scientific name:  Macropus fulinginosis.  It is one of the larger macropods in Australia.  Macropods include kangaroos, wallabies, petrogs, rat kangaroos etc.  The Western Grey Kangaroo weighs up to 120 lbs or 54 kg.  and is up to 3 feet 7 inches or 1.1 meter long.  Only the males are this larger size.  There is a lot of sexual dimorphism so the females are only about half the size of the males.

The range is actually across almost all of the southern portion of Australia . . . but not quite to thet east coast.   They also live on Kangaroo Island.  I think that they should have named it the Southern Grey Kangaroo. 

Taxomony has been a problem and the correct identification of the Western Grey Kangaroo as a different species from the Eastern Grey Kangaroo was not done until 1917.  In fact, the two species do NOT hybridize or breed with each other in the wild.  You CAN make a hybrid in captivity using artificial insemination.

Emu: newly learned Facts

I did not draw a new emu picture, but in preparation for our Outback trip to Australia we have been studying up on Australia and its plant life and wildlife.  I just learned that the male emu is the one who sits on the nest and protects and cares for the eggs for up to 56 days.  In that time it neither eats nor drinks.  It even turns the eggs with its beak and it does this several times a day.  In the mean time the female goes to find another male to mate with.  The female can produce several clutches of eggs during the breeding season. . . because SHE does not have to care for them.  

The emus are an ancient animal and even have claws on their wings like the first feathered dinosaurs, like Microraptor.  In fact, the Emu was used (apprortiately) as the model for the Velociraptor in the movie Jurassic Park.

Emus are the second largest bird in the world, after the Ostritch.  They are flightless, like the ostritch.  Emus can grow to over 6 feet or about 2 meters tall.  They can weigh up to 132 lbs or 60 kg.  The males incubate the eggs and care for the young.  The female is then free to again with another male to make more emu babies.  Emus can run up to 31 mph or 50 kph.  They eat plants and insects.  When water is available they can drink a large amount.  

Emus are raised in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.  These are emu farms.  They are able to defend themselves with their claws on their feet.  A good slashing kick could make a dingo in 

Australia or a coyote in thre USA really think twice.  I have family that once lived next to an emu farm in Northern Arizona.  The emu farmer (rancher?) gave me a failed emu egg that I had in my Science classroom for years.  

Emus live in most parts of Australia.  There was a species of emju on Tasmania and but it is now exticnt.  There were two dwarf species on King Island and Kangaroo Island, but they are also now exticnt, clearly from European settlers.  The large emus still exist in many parts of Australia.

The Tasmanian Tiger was one of the biggest Marsumial Predators to have lived.  It was the biggest to make it to modern times.  Unfortunately Man hunted it to extiction.  The last Tasmanian Tiger died in captivity in the 1930s.  It was thought that it was preying on grazing livestock, and later it was found that most of the killed livestock were killed by convicts.  The Tasmanian Tiger is officially called a Thylacine.  It is also known as the Tasmanina Wolf.  It had more than one name, like Cougars are also Pumas and Mountain Lions.

It was a great example of convergent evolution because it had teeth much like a hyena's or a dogs.  It looked a lot like a dog or wolf, but it was not related to either dogs or wolves.  It had a tail with fused bones.  So the Thylacine could not bend its tail.  Because it was a marsupial the Tasmanina Tiger had a pouch.  In fact BOTH sexes had a pouch.  The female, like the one here in this picture, had a pouch for her 3-4 cubs or babies.  The male had a pouch for protecting his genitals.  

The name Tasmanina Tiger should not confuse you.  It got that name because of the stripes, but it was not related to tigers at all. . . other than they are both mammals.  But tigers are placental mammals and don't have a pouch.  

Tasmanian Tigers lived and hunted in packs.  They were extremely shy of humand.  They were nocturnal so they were active at night, hence the moon and stars in the drawing.

Dingo Coloring Page

Dingo

It is estimated that the Dingo was brought to Australia around 5,000 years ago.  There were possibly brought to Australia by Man.  It is possible that some escaped captivity and became the wild breed now known as the Dingo.  Another theory points to the possibility that Dingoes migrated on thier own as wild animals and came over from New Guinea around 6500 - 8000 years ago . . . when sea levels were lower and Australia and New Guinea made up one continent.  DNA evidence shows that the Dingo split off from the New Guinea Singing Dog around that time.  

Dingoes are medium sized Canines.  There is currently a concern that the wild dingo population is being diluted because of cross breeding with dogs.  They have been hunted as well because they prey on domesticated livestock like sheep and cattle. 

Basically, the Wild Dingo IS a dog.  They have some features, like shorter snout etc. that are different from most dog breeds.  Due to the effects of evolution the Wild Dingos are very well adapted for speed, stamina, and agility.  Traits that would be essetial for a wild predator to survuve.  Dingo classification is kind of confusing.  It has been called a few scienfic names:  Canis familiaris dingo, Canis lupus dingo, and Canis dingo.  I should mention that both Dingoes and the New Guinea Singing Dog came from the same lineage that produced the domesticated dog.  

Dingos hunt pretty much any animal from birds to crabs up to large mammals like kangaroos.  Some Dingos were domesticated by Aborigines and they are one of the animals in thier Dreamtime stories.
Dingos are found wild in most parts of Australia.

We members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints consider Joseph Smith to be a great prophet.  He was the instrument in the Lord's hands to restore the true church of Jesus Christ.  We recognize that other Christian churches have much truth.  We respect them and their members for all the good that they do. 

We believe that in 1820, when Joseph was only 14, he was saw a vision and visited with Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.  Joseph was told that the true church was not on the Earth.  .   . but that in time he could be an instrument in the Lord's hands to help restore the True Church of Christ. 

Later, Joseph was visited by an ancient Native American Prophet who eventually brought him gold plates with writing on them.  By the power of God Joseph was able to translate the plates and that translation became The Book of Mormon.  The book is another testament of Jesus Christ and his dealings with His people in the New world, somewhere in North and or South America. 

In our view the restored church has the complete truth and we consider it a restoration of the church that Jesus established on the Earth 2000 years ago.  We have some unique beliefs that the Lord restored to the Earth via Joseph Smith.  For example, we believe that marriage can be eternal.  We believe that Heaven is organized by families.  We are also sealed to our children.  We believe that Heavenly Father and Jesus have physical glorified bodies. 

We believe that we lived with our Heavenly Parents before we came to Earth.  We lived there in our pre-mortal life as Spirit Children of our Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother.  In Fact, we believe that one day, if we receive the saving ordinances and keep the commandments, we can one day return to live with our Heavenly Parents.  We also believe that we should be kind to everyone and love our neighbor as ourselves.  We try and keep the sabbath day holy. 

We believe that the Lord wants us to save ourselves for marriage.  That is, we believe that the physical or sexual relationship between a man and a woman is powerful and wonderful.  When we make a physical body for one of God's Spirit children in the sacred bond of marriage we are helping with God’s. work. 

Because we believe in the sanctity of marriage we sometimes are accused of being prudes.  If that were true, how do we make all those children?  Latter Day Saints, or members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints believe that marriage is the highest sacrament.  We don't think sex is just for procreation, but giving the chance for other Spirit Children of our Heavenly Parents to come to Earth is very important.  The sexual union of a married couple is sacred and truly wonderful to us.  It is a bonding experience like no other in mortality. 

During Joseph Smith's day many religions thought that the body was evil and that sex, even in marriage, was kind of a pact with the devil and although they knew it was necessary, it was also considered unclean.  Well, Joseph Smith turned that around and said that the marriage relationship was necessary to our eternal exaltation.   He taught that the body, far from being evil, was necessary for our eternal progression.  And again, he taught that our Heavenly Parents also had physical, glorified bodies. 

Partly because of these teaching, Joseph Smith was arrested in Nauvoo, and then martyred by a mob in 1844 in Carthage, Illinois.  The members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints were forced to leave Illinois and they went clear across the North American Plains to the valleys of the Rocky Mountains. 

Joseph Smith also taught that Jesus is our elder brother.  Lucifer was also one of our elder brothers.  In the premortal life Lucifer rebelled against God and was cast out to Earth.  He took with him 1/3 of the hosts of heaven and he and they became devils.  They did not pass through the veil of forgetfulness that WE all passed through when we were born.  So this is why the devils knew who Jesus was when he came to Earth.  Jesus came to Earth to teach us and to pay the eternal price for our sins because we mortals all sin.  Because of this Atonement of Jesus Christ we all can be forgiven of our sins if we repent and strive to do better. 

To us, the Atonement and resurrection of Christ also means that we will all be resurrected one day and receive the level of glory we were willing to accept.  When we die we go to the Spirit World and wait our resurrection.  While there we teach others about Jesus Christ. 

We Latter Day Saints believe that Peter James and John, original disciples of Jesus, appeared in glory to give Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery the priesthood power of God.  Joseph Smith restored the Original Church of Christ and all its ordinances like baptism by immersion, conferring the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and sacred Temple Covenants including Eternal Marriage. 

Many of us have served an 18 month or 2 year mission, when we were young, to teach other people about these truths.  Some of us serve missions when we are elderly too.  So there are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in many countries throughout the world.

Las hadas del bosque son gente guapa. Son claramente tan inteligentes como los humanos o los mortales, como nos llaman. ¿Sabías que en realidad crecen y cosechan hongos? Son expertos en la preparación de setas, tanto crudas como cocidas. Por supuesto, también les gusta sentarse en las setas del bosque.

Por cierto, Faires ha aprendido a hacer medicinas de muchos tipos de hongos. También conocen los usos de las hierbas y los árboles del bosque y las praderas. Un mortal siempre debe tener cuidado con los hongos salvajes. No todas las "setas" son comestibles. Algunos son Toadstools mortales que los mortales NO pueden comer sin mayores consecuencias para la salud. Ellos, las hadas, son inmunes a los venenos que se encuentran en algunos hongos. . . como Toadstools.

Este hongo es realmente comestible. Además, es un hermoso tono de azul y se llama Indigo Milk Cap. o Hongo de Tapa de Leche.   El nombre científico es: Lactarius indigo. De hecho, así es como lo llaman las Faires. Todas las hadas conocen varios idiomas, pero uno que CADA hada conoce es el latín. Muchos de sus encantos de hadas están en latín. De hecho, la mayoría de las hadas conocen y usan el nombre científico de las plantas y animales de su entorno.

Esta Hada se llama Zacate. Ella vive en y bajo un prado en el bosque. No TODAS las hadas del bosque viven en o debajo de los árboles. La familia de Zacate vive con ella y por la noche permanecen bajo tierra en una cámara bellamente decorada que asombraría a cualquier mortal que tuviera el privilegio de visitar. Mira el dibujo y descubre qué significa Zacate. o. . . Aquí hay una pista. . . Que es zacate (ademas que un nombre) en español?  Por cierto, no es castellano. Es el nuevo mundo español, más especialmente de México.  Entoces, Zacate vive en un prado.  ¿Cual plantas se encuentra en un prado?

El bosque de Zacate se encuentra en las montañas del norte de México. . . no lejos del Bosque de Cristal. De hecho, Zacate y su familia se van de vacaciones a partes de la Cueva de Cristales. Usan su magia para permanecer invisibles para la mayoría de los exploradores y geólogos que van allí. Los cristales de la cueva están hechos de yeso. Algunos de estos cristales tienen 30 pies o aproximadamente 9 metros de largo. Las hadas son inmunes al tipo de calor que hace que los mortales se sientan incómodos. La Cueva de los Cristales es de 112 grados Fahrenheit o 45 grados centígrados. Y la cueva también tiene alrededor del 90% de humedad.

Forest Fairies are beautiful people.  They are clearly as intelligent as humans or mortals, as they call us.  Did you know that they actually grow and harvest mushrooms?  They are experts at preparing mushrooms, both raw and cooked.  Of course, they also like sitting on the forest mushrooms.

By the way, Faires have learned how to make medicine from many types of Fungi.  They also know the uses of herbs and trees from the forest and the meadows.   A mortal should always be wary of wild Fungi.  Not all "mushrooms" are edible.  Some are deadly Toadstools that we mortals can NOT eat without major health consequences.  They, the Fairies, are immune to the poisons that are found in some Fungi. . . like Toadstools.

This mushroom is actually edible.  Also, it is a beautiful shade of blue and is called Indigo Milk Cap.  The scientific name is:  Lactarius indigo.  In fact, that is what the Faires call it.  Fairies all know several languages, but one that EVERY Fairy knows is Latin.  Many of their Fairy Charms are in Latin.  In fact, most Fairies know and use the scientific name for the plants and animals of their environment.

This Fairy is named Zacate.  She lives in and under a meadow in the forest.  Not ALL Forest Fairies live in or under trees.  Zacate's family live with her and by night they stay underground in a beautifully decorated chamber that would awe any mortal that was privileged to visit.  Of course it would take Fairy Magic to change a mortal into diminutive (Fairy) size so they COULD visit the Fairy World.  Zacate is a name of Spanish origin.  Look at the drawing and figure out what Zacate means.  or. . . here is a hint. . .    Look up Zacate in Spanish.  By the way, it is not Castillian Spanish.  It is New world Spanish, more especially from Mexico.

Zacate's forest is found in the mountains of Northern Mexico.  .   .  not far from the Crystal Forest.  In fact, Zacate and her family go on vacation to parts of the Cave of Crystals.  They use their magic to stay invisible to most explorers and geologists who go there.  The crystals in the cave are made up of gypsum.  Some of these crystals are 30 feet or about 9 meters long.  Fairies are immune to the type of heat that make mortals uncomfortable.  The Cave of Crystals is 112 degrees Fahrenheit or 45 degrees Celsius.  And the cave has around 90% humidity as well.

Fairy Twins and their Unicorn Friend

FairyTwins Asteria & Celeste and their Unicorn Friend

Asteria and Celeste are young female Fairy twins.  They love to fly!   But they also both love their Unicorn friend,  Floriana.  Floriana loves flowers and one day her two best friends, the Fairy Twins, came to visit her in her flower garden.  Asteria and Celeste would fly around and Floriana would chase them through her flower garden. 

Sometimes while one Fairy Girl was distracting Floriana, her sister would float down and land on the Unicorn's back.  This was great fun for both Fairy and Unicorn.  

If you are wondering about these Fairy Girls being so large, realize that they are young but still have Fairy Magic.  They can make themselves mortal size so they can play with and ride their Unicorn Friend.  Normally the two Fairy Twins would be about 3 1/2 inches tall.  That would be about 9 cm.

This is similar to a ptrevious post, however, I was not happy with the drawing of the man in that drawing. . . so I used a photo of an Aboriginal man with his Atlatl.  In fact, I own an atlatl.  They are far more powerful that a spear.  The throwing stick part of the atlatl is used to throw the dart.  The Aborigines of Australia used atlatls.  It is thought that atlatls have been used by Man for 30,000 years.  The shield is also an accurate represetation of an Australian Aboriginal shield.  

This animal that is about to get skewered is Megalania prisca.  It was a huge type of monitor lizard. . . think of a Komodo Dragon on steroids.  Megalania was 23 feet or 7 meters long and lived on the planet from 2.5 million years ago to 50,000 years ago.  It was possibly hunted to extiction by the early Aborigines after they arrived in Australia. 

Early estimates said Megalania may have weighed up to 1,370 lbs or 620 kg.  Revised estimates put it at 18 feet or 5.5 meters long with a weight of 1,268 or 575 kg.  It gets more interesting.  An even more recent estimate says Megalania said it was possibly 26 feet or 7.9 meters long with an estimated maximum weight for the largest idividuals at 4,280 lbs or 1,940 kg.

This huge lizard may have been able to get pregnant without a male.  Their modern relative, the Komodo Dragon ,can get pregnant without mating and the female can then lay eggs that are clones of herself. 

Artists Note:  Do you think I did better with this drawing?  I think the man is done with more accurate propotions and the Megalania's scales etc. are done with much more accurate detail.  The Megalania's head is turned somewhat towards foreground so we can see into it's open maw.

Tree Nymph or Dryad

Tree Nymph protects her Tree during a Flood

A Tree Nymph is also called a Dryad.  They live near or in a tree or among many trees in a forest.  Some Tree Nymps are so bonded to ONE tree that if the tree dies, so does the Tree Nymph.  Tree Nymps or Dryads are a type of Fairy.  

Amadahy was one of these Tree Nymphs.  She was one of the Native Amerian Dryads who was bonded to many trees, but like most Dryads, she had a favorite tree.  Her favorite tree was a young sapling that was near the local river.  Once there was an especially deep snowpack in the Rocky Mountains, where Amadahy lived.  So when the river that ran through the Enchanted Forest flooded in the heavy spring runoff Amadahy stood knee deep in water to give magical strength to her tree.  

You see, trees CAN drown and Amadahy knew this.  I think that she gave the tree strength, but also used a drying charm to keep the tree from becoming water logged.  When the cells in a tree get drown they basically can't get rid of all the extra water that they absorbed in a flood.  This is Osmosis gone bad.  Amadahy used the "Secado" drying charm to keep her favorite young tree alive in the flood.  This charm essentially reverses osmosis to help the tree's cells get rid of the excess water that they absorbed in the flood.  

You will be happy to know that the sapling lived and went on to a long happy life with Amadahy watching over it.  By the way, Amadahy ironically means "Forest Water."  Amadahy, who was not yet an adult Fairy, when this happened, is of course alive still.  She continues to protect the forest, even long after this favorite tree died of old age.   (Most Fairies eventually choose to make the great change to the Spirt Realm after 100 years, but some, like Amadahy, choose to stay on Earth to keep doing their good work.)

One Final Note:  Please everyone, lets stay out of the river water until it goes down to a safer level and flow rate. Unless you are a magical Fairy, like Amadahy, you will get swept away. We have already lost people this spring here in Utah, USA.

Giant Monitor Lizard from Australia... Megalania

Megalania prisca vs Aboriginal Hunter

This lizard made a Kimodo Dragon look like an Anole.  Megalania was 23 feet or 7 meters long.  It weighed up to 1,370 lbs or 620 kg.  The lizard in this picture is not even one of the biggest.  The scientific name Megalania prisca means Ancient Great Roamer and it was Sir Richard Owen who named it.  He was the great anatomist of the 1800s.  He coined the name Dinosaur too.  Now don't you think that the name "Megalania" is a great name?  

It LOOKA like a dinosaur or  maybe a mammal-like reptile from before the dinosaurs, but Megalania was NOT a dinosaur nor was it a mammal-like reptile.  It lived much more recently than either of those life forms.  It appears to have been on the Earth from 2.5 million years ago to 50,000 years ago.  The ancient Australian Aborigines would have seen and dealt with this large reptiilian killer.  In fact, since it disappeared after Man arrived in Australia, some paleontologists and archaeologists think that maybe Man drove this monster to extiction.  That is why I drew an Aborigine hunter with it.  Bear in mind that this human is a full sized human.  The Megalania was truly a gigantic lizard!
I think that the ancient Australian Aborigines must have been amazing people.  

Can you imagine going up against anything this large.  It might have even been poisonous like its smaller relative the Komodo Dragon.  Komodo dragons have deadly bacteria that kills their prey after the prey animal is bitten.  Then when the Komodo Dragon eats the meat it gets reinfected with the deadly bacteria.   Of course the Komodo Dragon is immune to the deadly (for other animals) bacteria.

Jackson and Alissa

Jackson and Alissa the Elf Warriors

We went to a niece's wedding a couple of weeks ago.  This is the bride and groom.  They are beautiful people. . . so I drew them as Lord of the Rings Elves.  There is some advice I want to give them. . . feel free to read it if you want.    

The best way to stay close to each other, is to both individuallt and together stay close to your Creator.  It is like a triangle with God at the top.  The closer you are each to God the closer you are to each other and the better every aspect of your relationship will be.  

By the way, to preserve their privacy, "Alissa" and "Jackson" is not their real names.  But they will know this is them.  So Jackson and Alissa, remember that we, your family love you and care about you.  Be patient with each other and remember to be friends first and the romance will stay sizzling.  You are both beautiful people both inside and out.  And I do know that you WERE friends first and that bodes well for a happy life together.  

I loved the Lord of the Rings movies.  The actors and actresses from those movies that played Elves were all such beautiful people and you two remind me of them.  The elves were generally also very good people and again, that reminds me of you.  

Below is a drawing that took me 40 hours instead of the 1.5 hours that I spent on your coloring page.  Remember that it is impossible to capture true beauty with a fine point marker. . . well, it is for me anyway.  Maybe some day I will draw you with pencils and airbrush like the below drawing of Arwen from LOTR.  Alissa, maybe I am biased because I am your uncle, but you are as beautiful as Arwen or any Elf princess. . . in fact you are more beautiful.  Jackson, I hope you recognize that you have been blessed beyound belief and always treasure Alissa.
