The Prophet Nephi from His Garden Tower

This is my free coloring pages blog. Today I am posting a drawing I did in church.

It is the prophet Nephi speaking to the people from his garden tower.

Prophet Nephi from His Garden Tower

THIS Nephi is not the Nephi who traveled to the New World from Jerusalem. This Nephi is from over 500 years later. He was the prophet when his people, the Nephites, were going downhill as far as keeping the commandments. In other words, they were BREAKING the commandments.  Gadianton Robbers controlled the corrupt government. Gadianton Robbers were gangsters or organized crime. The people were full of wickedness and pride.

This is an amazing story. Nephi had a garden tower. He lived by the road that led to the main marketplace. He was so upset at the wickedness of the people that he went onto his tower to pray. Passersby heard Nephi's prayer, and a crowd started to gather. Nephi stood and began addressing the crowd and condemning the wickedness of the people and the wickedness of their government. He testified about Jesus and reminded the people about former prophets who testified about the Son of God.

Nephi even prophesied that the Chief Judge had been murdered by his own brother.  (The Chief Judge was the executive of the government, like a president or prime minister.) This Chief Judge and his followers were corrupt and evil. Nephi testified of their wickedness.

Nephi told the people that both the dead Chief Judge and the murderer were both members of the band of Gadianton Robbers. The people sent runners to check, and sure enough, the Chief Judge was dead, having been murdered.

Some people accused Nephi of being involved in the killing. They arrested him and took him before other corrupt judges. Nephi did something that proved his innocence and revealed the murderer. Nephi told the people to send a man to talk to the brother of the Chief Judge. It is kinda complicated, but the killer confessed that he killed his own brother, and the killer even exonerated Nephi.

Nephi was freed and left alone. He was instructed by God to go among the people and call them unto repentance. A great war broke out among the Nephites. Nephi smote the land with a draught or famine when he saw that the people were about to be destroyed by war. The famine killed many of the most wicked people ammd the remainder repented. Then Nephi asked the Lord to send rain again.

Read all about it in The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Christ. The story is found in Heleman chapters 7-9.  By the way, Chapter 10 is where you read about how the prophet Nephi is given great power to bring his people unto repentance.

A quick note about the drawing: The clothing is similar to clothing worn by the people of ancient North America... particularly the people of the Mound Builder cultures. Some people think that the Book of Mormon events happened along the Mississippi River valley and nearby areas.
