Today's new drawing is of a doggy and her master.
China is a cute little doggy. She is owned by a beautiful young woman. The photo that was used to draw this picture is from the doggy and master in a car. You can clearly see the seatbelt. In my defense, it is very challenging to capture the physical beauty of a person in a coloring page drawing. We know this person. She is a grandniece of ours. She is also beautiful on the inside. True beauty is about what kind of person you are.
This drawing can be found, in printable form, by clicking on the top button labeled "Animals." (I don't have a "People" category.) Scroll down after you click the "Animals" button because new drawings are found at the bottom of the list. Also, you can probably get a better print of this drawing if you know how to capture and print the image on this main blog page. It is scanned and saved in a PNG format and that is better than the PDF format of the "Printable" pages.

Today's new drawing
is of a Willow Tree Fairy.
She is holding a
Hummingbird Egg.
Willow Tree Fairies are some of the more slender Fairies. Maybe this has to do with willow leaves being quite narrow. This particular Willow Tree Fairy is also a friend to the Hummingbirds that nest in Willow Trees. She is holding an egg that she inspected. She has been caring for the Hummingbird chicks while the mother was out searching for nectar. The mother Hummingbird is just coming home to her nest. can see her flying in . . . in the background. THIS Willow Tree Fairy is named Salicis. That means Willow in Latin. Most Fairies know Latin. It is one of their primary languages. You may have noticed that Salicis, who is also a Hummingbird Fairy... has wings like a hummingbird. In fact, if you saw her flying you would see a hummingbird, not a Fairy. This is because she would be using a Fairy concealment charm to make her look like a bird that we mortals are used to seeing.
Willow Trees have been useful to both Man and Fairykind over the centuries. Willow bark is rich in salicylates and that chemical has many medicinal uses. In fact, both the ancient Greeks, Romans, and Native Americans used Willow Bark to help with fever and pain relief. Eventually, this ingredient, salicylic acid, was used to make aspirin. Willow trees are primarily riparian plants so they like to live near freshwater... such as rivers, lakes, and ponds. Willows are found on all continents of the Northern Hemisphere. . . along waterways mostly.
In English folklore, Willow Trees are supposed to be able to uproot themselves to chase after people. This may be the source for J.R.R. Tolkien's Ents. Ents are tree shepherds that look like trees of different species, but Ents can walk, talk, and fight. Willows are important in other cultures and some religions as well.

Today's
post is
a type
of early
dinosaur
called a
Sauropodomorph.
Schleitheimia schutzi is the name given to a newly discovered dinosaur that was discovered in Switzerland. It was around 33 feet or 10 meters long. It was a Sauropodomorph. It was one of the transition species between the Prosauropods and the enormous Sauropods. This newly discovered dinosaur lived in the Late Triassic Period and the Early Jurassic Period. The species name of schutzi was for the name of the discoverer of the dinosaur.
The flying reptile or Pterosaur in the drawing is a late Triassic Pterosaur named Caelestiventus hanseni. The species name of hanseni is for Robin Hansen the BLM (Beaurea of Land Management) Geologist who helped with the excavation of the fossil. It was found in the Saints and Sinners Quarry in NE Utah, USA (I've been to that quarry.) This Pterosaur was possibly the largest Triassic Pterosaur. It had a wingspan of around 5 feet or about 1.5 meters.
So, I must admit that the proportions in the drawing are kind-of off. So to solve that situation I'll just say that the Pterosaur is in the foreground and the Sauropodamorph is farther back in the picture. That will give you a more correct view. After all, the Sauropodomorph was 33 feet long! Of course, you could say that the Sauropodomorph, Schleitheimia schutzi, in the drawing is just a juvenile or sub-adult.

(This is the new drawing today.)
Teratophoneus was a Tyrannosaur that lived around 10 million years BEFORE Tyrannosaurus rex. Teratophoneus may have been an ancestor to T. rex. The scientific name for this earlier Tyrannosaur is Teratophoneus curriei. (Named either by or for Phil Curie the great Canadian paleontologist.
Estimates for size go up to 26 feet or 8 meters. That is an estimate of the total length. A sub-adult was found in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Utah, USA. (I live in Utah) This sub-adult was smaller at around 20 feet long. It was between 12 and 16 years old when it died. Weight for an adult was around 1.3 tons.
Paleontologists can figure out age at death by counting the growth rings on the bones. There are fossilized specimens of Teratophoneus that have been found that are both younger and older than this individual was when it was found. You can get lots of info from the same species of different ages at death.
Teratophoneus was a predator with the typical Tyrannosaur stubby arms in comparison to its overall body. Still, those arms may have helped it stand up from laying down. They looked useless but some paleontologists think that the typical Tyrannosaur had a lot of strength in those little arms. What is clear is that the arms were not used to kill or eat prey. The powerful jaws of Tyrannosaurs did the killing and eating. The jaws could crush bone with ease. I even have a piece of Tyrannosaur coprolite that has a piece of bone embedded in it.
By the way, the juveniles and sub-adults appear to have been built much more gracile or lighter than full-size adult Tyrannosaurs. This has led some paleontologists to hypothesize that the younger Tyrannosaurs were the prey chasers of the pack and the adults were the ambushers. So the younger Tyrannosaurs would chase prey, (like this Parasaurolophus in the drawing), and the adults would jump out and do the killing bite to the neck.
NOTE: This drawing can be found, in printable form, by clicking on the button at the top of the page and scrolling down to the bottom of the list. for this new drawing. Below are some older Teratophoneus drawings done and posted on previous posts.

Today's new drawing is a Tree Fairy.
More specifically it is a Box Elder Tree Fairy.
Box Elder Tree Fairies often are friendly with Box Elder Beetles. These insects are also called Box Elder Bugs. Box Elder Trees are a fairly common tree for hosting a Fairy Village. The Faires will live in and under the tree in a hollowed-out area that looks quite like a quaint European village.
I should mention that Fairies normal size or height is around 5 inches tall. That is just under 13 cm. The Box Elder Fairies use their magic to go to an even smaller size when they want to go for a ride on one of their pets. Their pets are Box Elder Bugs. Insects have limited intelligence but Box Elder Fairies CAN communicate with Box Elder Bugs. You could even say that the bugs are friends with the Faires.
Box Elder Fairies often have a unique type of wing. The Box Elder Tree Fairy's wings often LOOK like a leaflet from a Box Elder Tree. If you don't know what a leaflet is, it is a part of the leaf that looks like a leaf.
Let me explain... a compound leaf has several leaflets. Box Elder Trees have compound leaves. So by having green wings that LOOK like the Box Elder tree;s leaflets... the Box Elder Tree Fairy can hide in plain sight. Of course, Fairies have magic to help them hide as well. But with the perfect camouflage, a Box Elder Tree Fairy needs to use little magic to hide from mortal eyes. In fact, the Box Elder Tree Fairies can change their wings to yellow-gold to look like the Box Elder leaflets in the autumn.
NOTE: This drawing, in printable form, can be found by clicking on the button labeled "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus" that is located at the top of the page. Then scroll down because new drawings are at the bottom of the list. I also want to suggest that you look up a photo of a box elder beetle to know how to color the one in the drawing.
Today's post is about the Prophet Nephi.
The drawing is of Nephi praying for his people.
Prophet Nephi prays for his People
In the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Christ, you read about the Prophet named Nephi. There are several prophets with that name so to be clear... we are talking about Nephi, son of Nephi, son of Helaman, son of Helaman.
It was around 0 or 1 AD. Nephi was praying because the wicked people planned on killing all the people of God who believed in the prophecy of Samuel The Lamanite. So Nephi went out into the wilderness and prayed for his people. It was probably not far into the wilderness. In fact, it says he went out. I pictured the prophet Nephi here kneeling by a stream, not far from town.
In my drawing, he has just heard the voice of the Lord. The Lord told him to "be of good cheer for tonight I come into the world..." If you look up high on the drawing you see the Star of Bethlehem appearing. I envisioned the New Star that Samuel the Lamanite predicted being visible even before the sun completely set. By the way, in the drawing Nephi has just been told that the star would appear... and it has... and so Nephi is smiling.
When the wicked people saw the new star they fell to the earth in astonishment. In the New World, the Star of Bethlehem was apparently even brighter than it was in the Old World. It was as light as day where the Nephites and Lamanites lived.
You can read this story in The Book Of Mormon, Another Testament Of Christ in the book of 3 Nephi chapter 1.

Today's new
drawing is
a Bottlenose
Dolphin rubbing
herself on
a soft coral.
Dolphins are amazing animals. Today we watched the BBC show Planet Earth: Blue Planet II... about ocean life and we saw Bottlenose Dolphins will rub themselves on coral. This is a type of soft coral from the Alcyonacea order of soft coral. These are also called sea fans and sea whips. Like hard coral, they are living animals that feed on plankton... so they are filter feeders.
The mother dolphin is trying to teach her calf that this is a good thing to do. The mother dolphin is rubbing herself on the soft coral. This soft coral has anti-inflammatory properties and anti-biotic properties. So this may be a prophylactic treatment that dolphins figured out themselves. I think that is amazing.
The fish on the right is another amazing sea animal we learned about today. It is called a Tusk Fish. It has tusks on its upper and lower mouth. It is amazing because it grabs a clam with its mouth and then bangs it on hard coral to open the clam up. Then it eats the soft insides of the clam. So this is a fish that basically uses tools. Very few animals use tools. Using tools is one of the things that distinguish man from most other animals.
There is a clownfish near its sea anemone and a baby shark (don't start singing) ...and there is other hard coral and an octopus in this drawing. And of course, there is also a seagull flying by in the drawing.
NOTE: This drawing, in printable form, can be found by clicking on the Animals button up top. Then scroll down to the bottom of the list for the new drawing. Below are other dolphin drawings from previous posts. Some of these drawings are more cartoon-ish. Older drawings are further up the list of printable drawings.

Today's
new post is
Chica the
Paint Horse.
Chica is a Paint Horse and she is so beautiful that I took a photo (see below) and drew her. She belongs to a local family who are dear friends of ours. Our daughter married their son so we are kind of family. They certainly have welcomed us into their family.
Paint Horses were developed with American Quarter Horses and Spotted Horse. They also included Thoroughbred horses in developing the breed. Paint Horses have the light-dark spotted pattern of a pinto horse and the characteristics of an American Quarter Horse.
I have always considered Paint Horses to be very beautiful animals. Below is the photo I took of Chica. You can color the coloring page like her or in any other colors you wish. The printable drawing can be found by clicking on the button labeled "Animals" and scrolling down. New drawings are at the bottom of the list. There are also other horse drawings below the photo. These drawings are from previous posts or older posts that I will re-post today.

(This horse, Tug, is from the Ranger's Apprentice series of books. I highly recommend the books.)
We went to Iceland a few years ago and I took some great pictures of the Icelandic Horses.
They are NOT ponies, but they are stocky and a beautiful and a very hearty breed.
Below are some of those drawings. . . although one drawn from
a refrigerator magnet.
