Jesus' Birth in Bethlehem coloring page

Welcome back to my blog.  Or welcome to it.

Today's two new drawings concern the birth of Jesus.

Micah prophesies that Jesus will be born in Bethlehem

Micah was a prophet in the Old Testament.  He prophesied of that Jesus, the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.  That is what we Christians believe.  Bethlehem was a small village near Jerusalem.  This prophecy was made 600 - 700 years or so before Jesus was born.

Here is the quote from Micah 5:2...

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel...."
Baby Jesus in a Manger
(In Bethlehem with Mary and Joseph near)

The Holy Bible tells us that Jesus was indeed born in Bethlehem.  Because there was no room in the Inn Jesus was born in a stable and his cradle was a manger.  It is rather amazing to think that the Saviour of the World - the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament - the Creator of the Earth... was born in a humble stable surrounded by animals is quite amazing.

The Book of Mormon calls Mary the fairest of all virgins.  I believe that was talking about more than physical beauty.  She was a pure young woman who loved the Lord and had tremendous faith.  So why did I draw her looking rather mussed up?  The answer is obvious.  She just gave birth and giving birth is difficult.  I am male so I have never given birth, but I have assisted with births in Mexico as a medical assistant... and I have seen the births of 2 of my children. Now, Mary would probably have been lying down, I'll admit.

Why does Baby Jesus have cloth wrapped around his arm that we can see?  The answer is those are swaddling clothes - believed to help a baby's arms and legs grow straight.  The baby is also covered by a blanket so we can't see the other swaddling clothes.  Notice that the Holy Ghost is there as well... in the form of a dove. (That is not Biblical but I thought it was a cool idea.)

Thanksgiving 2022 coloring pages

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Today's new drawing is a cartoon drawing of a Pilgrim Couple in Plymouth.

Pilgrim Couple in Plymouth Colony

(Today's new drawing)

Here in the United States of America when we say "Pilgrims" we mean the Pilgrims who settled in Plymouth, Massachusettes.  They were a group of religious people who came to North America for religious freedom.  After a very rough first winter, the Pilgrims received help from Native Americans.  Then in November, the Pilgrims and Native Americans had a big harvest celebration.   The assistance of the Native Americans and the Native Americans teaching the Pilgrims how to grow crops and how to survive in general was very important.  Without the help of the Native Americans, the Plymouth Colony probably would not have survived another winter.

In this fun drawing, we see a Pilgrim husband and his wife.  He is about to go hunting for turkey.  There were and still are wild turkeys in North America.  We even have wild turkeys where we live in Utah.

The rifle being held by the man is a blunderbuss.  They often are drawn with pilgrims, however, a matchlock musket was probably more common at the time.  A blunderbuss was the precursor to the modern shotgun.

By the way, this Thanksgiving I am grateful to yet be alive to share my mortal life with my wife, children, and grandchildren.  Remember that after this life, our spirit continues on.  Only our mortal body can die, but our spirit is infinite and eternal.  In the next life, the Spirit World... or in or after the resurrection, all that was lost will be made up to us and then some.  AND blessings we longed for but did not receive in mortality will be granted... this applies to the good people of the Earth.  Sadly, those promises are not extended to the wicked people who have chosen to do evil.  But all will be resurrected and receive the level of glory that matches the light that they were willing to receive and accept... and live.  And of course, the resurrection of our bodies will occur for everyone because of the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ. His Atonement also made it possible for us to be forgiven of our sins... IF we repent and have faith in Him... AND strive to do better.

The Oldest Dinosaur from Africa - Mbiresaurus and Biggest Pterosaur from the Triassic Period - Caelestiventus coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawing features three types of Triassic Period animals.

Triassic Animals:  Mbiresaurus,  Caelestiventus, & Adelobasileus

Mbiresaurus was a small dinosaur from what is now Africa.  It is the oldest African dinosaur ever discovered.  It was the last common ancestor of Sauropods and Ornithopods.  Sauropods were the huge long-neck dinosaurs that walked on four legs and were the biggest living land animals ever to walk the Earth.  But this was a tiny dinosaur in comparison. Ornithopods were the dinosaurs that looked like large ostriches.  The full name for this small dinosaur is Mbiresaurus raathi.  The genus name comes from the Mbire Dynasty of Zimbabwe.  The cool species name honors an early dinosaur bone hunter from the area.  He was named Michael Raath and he helped discover the first of the area's dinosaur fossils.

Mbiresaurus lived in the late Triassic Period.  That was 230 million years ago.  This dinosaur was found in Zimbabwe, Africa. It was only about 6 feet 7 inches long.  It weighed somewhere between 22 and 66 lbs or 10 to 30 kg.

The Pterosaur is called Caelestiventus hanseni.  The genus name means heavenly wind.  The species name honors Robin Hansen.  He was the Bureau of Land Management geologist who helped the excavation team get access to the fossil site.  (I like his first name.  Do you know why?)  Caelestiventus was a small early Pterosaur.  Ir had a wingspan of 4.9 feet or about 1.5 meters.  I called it small because it would look like a sparrow compared to some of the later Pterosaurs of the Cretaceous Period 160 million years later.  But quite possibly it was the biggest Pterosaur of the Triassic Period.

The small rodent-like animal you see was one of the early proto-mammals of the Triassic.  It is called Adelobasileus.  It is also called a mammaliamorph.  It was a Cynodont mammilimorph.  So, it had characteristics of the Cynodont mammal-like reptiles and features of a mammal, like fur. Adelobasileus was only about 4-5 inches long or 10-12 cm.  The mammaliamorph is in the foreground so it looks bigger than it would if it were side by side with the dinosaur.  It is possible that this small furry animal was one of the ancestors of later mammals, including humans.  I hope this species is not annoyed with me for leaving them out of the title of this post.  I DID include this name on the title of the drawing.

These three animals all lived in the late Triassic Period, although they were not all found in the same place, however, since during the Triassic Period the Earth was all one continent (Pangea) then it is possible that these animals may have been seen together.

By the way, the plants in this drawing are ancient plants from the Triassic Period.  They include cycads, ferns, and club moss. There are three periods in the Mesozoic Era:  Triassic was the first, then the better-known Jurassic Period, and then the Cretaceous Period.  Dinosaurs and Pterosaurs first appeared in the Triassic Period. The Mesozoic Period ended when the Chichlub meteorite hit the Yucatan Peninsula.

Kathewyn and Jesentor Newlywed Riders of Rohan coloring page

Welcome to my Free Coloring Pages blog.

There are close to 2500 drawings that I have drawn that can be printed and colored.

This blog has no fees and no ads.

Today's new drawing is of two newlyweds who just

happen to be Riders of Rohan.

Kathewyn and Jesentor Newlywed Riders of Rohan

The great Kingdom of Rohan has, as its main army, a cavalry of sorts.  They are called the Riders of Rohan.  Aowyn proved, by killing the Witch King of Angmar, that females can also be very effective Riders of Rohan.  Ever since then there have been female Riders of Rohan.

As happens in our world, people often meet at work and fall in love.  Being in the Rohirrim is a job.  Other people in Rohan raise the horses, and milked the horses. (Yes I said milk the horses, not cows.)  Poeple of Rohan have selectively bred horses that give more milk.  They also have farmers, blacksmiths, armorers, etc.  The Rohan horse culture is much like the culture of the Native Americans of the Great Plains.  But the Native Americans did not milk their horses.  The horses of the plains tribes came from European horses -  brought to the New World by Europeans - apparently in the early 1600s.

Jesentor and Kathewym were in the Rohirrim and were often riding and serving together.  They were and are two of the greatest of the Rohirrim.  They fell in love and chose to get married.  They continue to serve together even now.

Woodland Warrior Elves Couple - Danadain and Kaycelia coloring pages

Today's new drawing is a couple who are Woodland Elves.

Woodland Warrior Elves Couple - Danadain & Kaycelia

These two beautiful Elves are warriors who also are a married couple.

Kaycelia is a beautiful blonde Woodland She-Elf.  She is also a very skilled fighter.  When facing orcs her beauty is known to distract the enemy and this gives her an extra advantage.  I should mention here that in a coloring page quality of drawing it is impossible to get a perfect likeness.  Kaycelia is also a very nice Elf, if you are not an evil orc, goblin, or troll.  She

The male Warrior Elf is named Danadain.  He is actually a part Elven mortal who has some Elf ancestors.  He can not live for an indefinite time like an Elf, but he DOES have the ability to have a long life 3 or 4 times longer than other mortals.  He is also a Ranger who helps keep good people and Elves safe from evils like trolls, orcs, goblins, etc. He was raised by Woodland Elves so Danedain's loyalty lies with the Woodland Elves.  So he is not a full-blooded Elf, but he IS part Elf and he is part of the Woodland Elven Drum or Elven Troupe.

To marry Danadain Kaycelia had to give up her mortality. But their love for each other and their commitment to helping make each other happy and always having each other's back have made them very happy.  Kaycelia never has regretted her decision to give up her Earthly immortality for love.  Besides, they both believe that their souls are immortal anyway, so when they die their spirits will still be together in the Spirit Realm.

I forgot to mention that Danadain is also very kind to others, who are not evil creatures.  For years Danadain and Kaycelia have lived in happiness.  When they are on patrol to help keep the Woodland Forest Realm safe, they always choose to patrol together.

Now, let me come clean about something.  This loving and committed couple actually lived thousands of years ago.  They are ancestors of mortals who still live here on Earth.  Certain families have long-lived genes and they live for upwards of a hundred years.  Many of those families are descendants of Kaycelia and Danadain.

NOTE:  In this drawing Danadain and Kaycelia are standing in the Woodland Realm near some Aspen trees.  They are standing near a creek or brook or mountain stream.  They just fought off and slew a Mountain Troll so they are taking a break from the patrol to hold each other briefly... and rejoice that they are still together.  An Elf loses his or her mortality if killed in battle... so there was a real danger.

Also, note the writing on Kaycelia's shoulder and Danadain's tunic.  It is their nicknames in Elvish.  Their tunics cover their chainmail armor.

This new drawing can be found, in printable form, by clicking on the "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus" button.  Then scroll down to the bottom of the list.  New drawings are at the bottom of the list.  Then click on the title and you can print your picture to color.

Trumpeter Swan with River Fairy coloring page

Trumpeter Swans are often friendly with the

Fairies that live along their migration route.

This is my free coloring pages blog with over 2400 drawings that I have done

for you to print and color.  There are no fees and no ads.

Trumpeter Swan with River Fairy

Trumpeter Swans often stop on their migration route.  The local River Fairies, Pond Fairies, and Lake Fairies are great friends with all species of swan.  Here we see Gladia the River Fairy greeting a Trumpeter Swan.  River Fairies, like all Fairies, can change or transform their size from 5 inches tall or so to up to mortal size - or anything in between.

Gladia chose to be about 3 feet or just under a meter tall when she visited this swan.  He is a cob or male swan.  In the distance and on the lake, you can see his mate, a female swan or a pen.  More migrating swans are coming into land on the river.

Maybe this is at the Bear River Bird Refuge, here in Utah, USA.  Ir maybe it is of Swans on Farmington Bay, also here in Utah.

Biggest Swans in America coloring pages

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

Today's new drawings are of 2 species of Swans

that are native to North America, and one species that is here but is non-native.

The last drawing is of a non-native swan, but it is a drawing from

a previous post.  It is a drawing of a Black Swan.

Trumpeter Swan with Cygnets

The Trumpeter Swan is the largest species of swan.  The males can have a wingspan of 10 feet or 9 meters.  They can weigh up to 26 lbs.  That is almost 12 kg.  Trumpeter swans are omnivores, feeding on insects and water plants as well as off of harvested corn, grain, and soybean fields.  Trumpeter Swans are hard to distinguish from their smaller relative - the Tundra Swan.  But Trumpeter Swans have a different call and they truly are much bigger. Sometimes the two species can be sighted together.  A Trumpeter Swan's call can travel up to 5 miles.

Tundra Swans on a Pond

Tundra Swans are smaller than Trumpeter Swans, but they are very similar.  One thing that is different is a yellow spot on the base of the bill of most Tundra Swans.  These swans have a wingspan of up to 83 inches or 211 cm.  So that is a large wingspan of 6 feet 11 inches.  Impressive but not near as wide as the Trumpeter Swan wingspan.  Swans mate for life.  They can be split up by death or the death of their chicks.  Then the two sad parents will find another swan of the opposite sex to again, "mate for life."  Swans are actually very loyal and both parents help raise their young.  But only the female swan will incubate the eggs.  I guess the male helps keep watch.

Mute Swan on a Forest Pond

The Mute Swan is native to the old world, but it has been introduced to America from Europe - to decorate large estates and to be seen in zoos.  This started from the mid-1800s to and went until around 1900.  But some of the Mute Swans escaped and established breeding colonies in North America!

Mute Swans are not mute, but their calls are muffled and don't carry like the other species of swans. Mute Swans have a wingspan of 7 feet 11 inches.  (The biggest males do.)  That is 2.4 meters.

NOTE:  These drawings, in printable form, are found by clicking on the "Birds" button and scrolling down.  The newest drawings are at the bottom of the list.  Click on the title and print.  Below is the older drawing I did of a Black Swan.  It is a drawing I did of a Black Swan that lives in a nearby zoo.  The drawing of the Black Swan will be further up the list.  New drawings are at the bottom of the list.

Black Swan in a River

Remember to color him black because Black Swans have a red bill.  Also,  It this is a male or a cob.  Females are called a pen.  This swan attacked our granddaughter through the fence of the zoo.  So from experience, I can tell you they are aggressive.  So they are both beautiful and grumpy.

We saw a whole flock of these Black Swans at the mouth of the Columbia River at the Washington State and Oregon border.  My wife and I were surprised because we knew that Black Swans are native to Australia.   But we did some research and discovered that, like Mute Swans, these Black Swans had been brought to the USA or Canada and escaped from estates to form their own wild flocks.

By the way, we met an expert on the local swans at the Bear River Migratory bird refuge. He is the  Bear River Blogger.  He often tells readers who go to his blog when to see different birds at the refuge.
