New Dinosaur Brightstoneus and Radiodactylus coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

Today's new drawing is of a newly discovered dinosaur and

a more well-known Pterosaur.

Brightstoneus and Radiodactylus

It has recently been discovered that many of the dinosaur species identified as Iguanodon were actually many different species.  This is a drawing of one of those.  It is Brightstoneus.  It was found in a museum after being dug up many years ago in 1978.  It was then identified as an Iguanodon but it has now been identified as a specific different species.  It was found on the Isle of Wight near England.

Jeremy Lockwood was a doctoral student researching diversity in Iguanodons.  In the basement of Dinosaur Isle Museum he found the bones that had not been looked at for years.  He noticed that it had a rounded snout that was different from Iguanodon.  The new species was given the Genus name of  Brightstoneus, after the town near the original dig site.  The species name is simmondsi for Keith Simmonds, the amateur paleontologist who first found the fossils.  So the correct scientific name is Brightstoneus simmondsi.

This dinosaur was around 26 feet or 8 meters long.  It weighed around 2000 lbs or 900 kg. It had a rounded beak-like mouth and many teeth for chewing tough plants like pine needles and ferns.  At the time grass had not yet evolved nor had flowering plants.  Or at least those two types of plants were not widely available for being a primary food source.

The Pterosaur is Radiodactylus.  It lived in the early Cretaceous Period, like Brightstoneus.  Radiodactylus was a smaller Pterosaur with a wingspan of only 5 meters or 1.5 meters wide.

I want to mention that I drew the volcano because they are fun to color.  But actually, the LATE Cretaceous is when there was a great uptake in volcanic activity.

Joseph Smith as a Boy coloring pages

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new post is of Joseph Smith as a young farm boy walking by a river.

Joseph  Smith as a Boy walking by a River

(new drawing)

Joseph Smith was a prophet,  But he was a boy first.  As a boy he had to undergo an operation for an infected bone in his leg.  Later, when he was 14 there was a lot of excitement around his town converting religion.  Joseph went to several meetings of different churches.  Joseph wanted to know which church was the true church of Christ.  While reading the Holy Bible Joseph came across James 1 verse 5 that tells the reader to ask God if they lack wisdom.

Jospeh did just that.  He went out to a grove of trees near his father's farm to pray about which church at the time was true.  He was told to join none of them and he was told he would be instrumental in helping restore the full Gospel of Jesus Christ.  He was told this by Jesus Himself and in the vision, the Father or Father in Heaven introduced His son Jesus and told Joseph, "This is My Beloved Son, Hear Him."

I drew this new picture of Joseph Smith last week. I drew it on his birthday of December 23rd. But medical issues made it impossible to post that day so I waited until now. This is a drawing of Joseph walking along a river. Perhaps he is thinking of God and which is the true church of God. I know that Joseph Smith was chosen to restore the complete true church of Jesus Christ. We members of that church are not perfect and neither was Joseph Smith. But the church continues on and the priesthood authority that was given to Joseph Smith was passed down and has saved my life through blessings many times via priesthood blessings.

Caddisfly Fairy coloring page

Welcome or welcome back to my free coloring pages blog!

Today's new drawing is a Caddisfly Fairy wading in a small stream!

Caddisfly Fairy

Caddisflies are amazing insects. They build the home that they live in as a larva.  The larvae use rocks, tiny sticks, or whatever they find in the water.  Caddisfly larvae live in the water.  The adults emerge from the water.

As larvae, caddisflies build a caddis case. This is their home while they live in the water. When they emerge as adults they have wings and they leave the caddis case behind. SOME caddisflies don't build a case so they are called "caseless Caddisflies." In this drawing, there is a caddisfly larva in the water and inside its self-built case. Two adult caddisflies are flying up to the Fairy.

Caddisfly Fairies make their clothing in the same way as caddisflies.  The Caddisfly Fairies use small rocks and tiny twigs etc. to make their outfits.  THIS Caddisfly Fairy is named Candissia.  Canddissia will hang out with caddisflies when they emerge from the water.  When the larvae are still in the water  Canddissia can transform to caddisfly larva size and hang out with the larvae.  Canddissia has wings that are similar to caddisfly wings.

Caddisflies have an affinity for artificial light.  So one of Caddissia's challenges is to keep the caddisflies away from lights and especially things like campfires.

Happy New Year BC 65 Million (for 2022) coloring page

 It's New Year's Eve.

So today's new drawing is a New Years' Comic.

Happy New Year BC 65 Million (for 2022)

(The T. rex, the Pteranodon, and the Tylosaurus definitely

did NOT have a good year after the meteorite hit!)

This drawing shows the meteorite that very likely wiped out much of the Mesozoic Era life.  The meteorite hit at the end of the Cretaceous Period.  Before that, there were dinosaurs.... after the meteorite hit there soon were no more large dinosaurs.  The small feathered avian dinosaurs DID survive.  We call them birds.

You should know that the large space rock that hit the Earth 65 million years ago actually hit the ocean just north of the Ycatan Penninsula.  There are various theories of why it killed off the big dinosaurs.  One says that the impact caused a fireball that encircled the total planet and if you were not small enough to hide in the ground you died.  Another theory is that so much ash and etc. were blasted into the air that it caused a "nuclear winter" and the big dinosaurs froze or starved to death.  Either way, the birds survived.  The big marine reptiles died off but the turtles and crocodiles survived.

I have been a very amateur astronomer for 47 years... ever since my dad got me a telescope for Christmas when I was 13.  Sooooo.... I want to tell you that a space rock - that is still in space is called an asteroid.  The Solar System even has an asteroid belt with thousands of asteroids that orbit between Mars and Jupiter.  When an asteroid hits the Earth's atmosphere we call it a meteor.  They are also called shooting stars if they are very small asteroids.  Thousands of tiny asteroids hit the Earth's atmosphere and burn up without hitting the Earth.  I should say that thousands every day burn up without ever hitting the ground.  When a meteor is larger it does not burn completely up in the atmosphere.  It hits the ground and we call it a Meteorite.  I used to teach my science students that the meteorite hit RIGHT on the Earth...  Do you get it?  Meteorite hits rite on the Earth?  This helped my students remember the difference between meteors and meteorites.

Flower Fairies with a new Flower Fairy named Lilac & other Fairy coloring pages

This is my free coloring pages blog.

Today's newest drawing is of a Lilac Fairy.

More specifically it is a Flower Fairy named Lilac.

Flower Fairy named Lilac

There are many types of Flower Fairies.  Each type of Flower Fairy has a preference for a certain type of flowering plant.  THIS is Lilac, so of course, she loves lilac bushes and lilacs.  Here we see Lilac, who has just transformed into mortal size, and she is emerging from the lilac bush.  She is wearing a Balteum Volantes or flying belt.  She, and most Fairies, wear a flying belt so they can fly faster and further than they can on wing power alone.  A flying belt allows them to fly at high speed and for great distances.

Notice that Lilac has a butterfly necklace.  This indicates that she is also a Butterfly Fairy.

Lilacs are considered magical by the Celtics.  There are white lilacs and purple lilacs and they symbolized different things.  White lilacs represent purity & innocence.  Purple lilacs represent spirituality.

Lilac leaves are smooth-edged and are very heart-shaped.  Some people think this means lilac bushes and lilac flowers represent love.

Lilacs are native to Europe but are now seen all over many Eastern states in the USA.  They are also seen in some western states... including here in Utah, USA.  However, Lilacs are one of my personal favorite smells... but I am allergic to their pollen.

NOTE:  This new drawing up top is found by clicking on the button labeled "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus."  Scroll down to the bottom of the drop-down menu and you will find the new drawing.  Below are some other Flower Fairy drawings from previous posts so their printable versions will be further up the list. Some of the below drawings were done before I studied more on how to draw people (and Faries).  So they are not comparable to my more recent drawings.

Royal Mermaid Princess named Ellinor and a few other Mermaid coloring pages

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

Today's new drawing is a Mermaid Princess.

Royal Mermaid Princess named Ellinor

Ellinor is a Mermaid Princess.  Her Trident Crown indicates that.  She is a compassionate Mermaid.  She is known for her kindness throughout the North Sea.  She lives with her family off the coast of Denmark.  Her father is the Sea King.

Interesting enough, Ellinor is a magnet to many sea creatures, especially invertebrates.  They come to play and visit with her.  Most Merpeople can communicate with vertebrate life in the ocean, but Ellinor can also communicate with invertebrates and that is a rare gift.

This drawing includes several invertebrates including a baby Giant Squid, a Common Octopus, a crab, and a Sea Worm.  There is also a Brain Coral.  The fish you see are not invertebrates.  They are vertebrates and they are a shark, a Parrotfish, and a small reef fish..  Sharks are cartilaginous fish so their bones are made of cartilage.  The Parrotfish and reef fish are true bony fish.

Notice that some of the Mermaids have a navel visible.  This is because Merpeople are born live.  They are not hatched from jelly-like eggs as fish are.

NOTE:  This new drawing is available in printable form by clicking on the button labeled "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus."  Then scroll down to the bottom of the drop-down menu to see this title.  Click on the title to see the drawing.  Then you can print it.  Below are some older drawings of Mermaids.

By the way, this Mermaid was inspired in part by the "Barbie Mermaid" that our granddaughter got for Christmas.  Have fun coloring!

Female Shepherd with Baby Jesus coloring pages

Today's new post is another female shepherd.

There WERE some female shepherds in ancient Israel.

Female Shepherd with Baby Jesus

(new drawing)

Baby Jesus was first visited by shepherds who had been out at night watching over their flocks. There WERE female shepherds in ancient Israel.  I recently learned that fact.  The baby Jesus is wrapped in swaddling clothes... which were strips of fabric on the arms and legs... thought to help the legs and arms grow straight.

NOTE:  This is the second female shepherd I have drawn this year.  The older drawing is posted below.  These drawings are available in printable form by clicking on the Holidays button and scrolling down to the bottom of the Christmas section.
