Father's Day 2020 Coloring Pages

Scroll down to get to the free Father's Day drawings...

Some or ALL of these coloring pages can be used as a Father's Day card.  The first two drawings are new this year.  The two drawings are nearly identical.

To make a cartoon animal a female, one trick is to give her big or long eyelashes.  The male young Unicorn, or colt, is a male and it has short eyelashes, as does the father Unicorn.

The young female Unicorn or filly has long eyelashes.  So she is a female.  This trick is useful in drawing cartoon animals.

In both drawings, the dad Unicorn has taken his offspring to an overlook as sunrise. They can see the river valley below them and the distant mountains with the sun peeking up over the peaks.

These drawings are found by clicking on the category button up top labeled:  "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus."  Below today's drawings are additional drawings that are from previous posts.  These include some drawings made for previous Father's Days and other drawings that happen to include a father and offspring in the drawing.

Tree Fairies, a type of Forest Fairy coloring pages

Charitee the Tree Fairy
(new drawing)

Today's post is Tree Fairies.  Forest Fairies are the most common Fairy in the world.  Tree Fairies are one type of Forest Fairy.  Forest Fairies live in and below trees.  In this drawing, Charitee, a beautiful young Tree Fairy, has transformed herself to mortal sized... as opposed to her natural 5 inches tall Fairy size.  That would be 12.7 cm.  All Fairies have this power to transform to mortal size and back to their Fairy size.  Fairies have advanced technology that they integrate with powerful magic.  You might notice that Charitee is wearing a piece of advanced Fairy Tech called a Volantem Balteum or a flying belt.  She, like all Fairies, does not NEED an antigravity belt to fly, but she can fly further and faster when she is wearing a flying belt.

Charitee loves the forest, but she is called a Tree Fairy because she has a favorite species of tree.  That species is Narrow Leaf Cottonwood.  Here she is leaning on one of these beautiful big trees that are found in the Western United States.   She cares for these trees in her native forest.

NOTE:  All the drawings in this blog are free to print and color.  There are no ads or fees.  Permission is only given for printing to give to kids or adults to color.  Copyright for all the drawings belongs to Robin Andrew Lyman 2016-20.  To get to the printable versions of the drawings just click on the
"Fantasy, Myths, and Circus" button up at the top of the page.  Scroll down to the bottom of the list for the new drawing.  The drawings below are from previous posts so they are going to be further up the list of drawings when you click on the correct button.

Batrachopus grandis the Bipedal Cretaceous Crocodile coloring page

This is a free coloring pages blog.  There are over 1000 printable coloring pages.  There are no ads or fees to use this page or to print coloring pages. Today's drawing is found by clicking on the Paleontology button at the top of the page.

Today's post is a newly discovered ancient crocodile (from the Cretaceous Period) that is called Batrachopus grandis.  It was a  bipedal Cretaceous Period crocodile or crocodilian.   Batrachopus is the Genus name, and grandis is the species name.

What is so unique about this animal is that it was bipedal.  That means that it walked on two legs, not four.  All modern crocodiles, and we previously thought that pretty much all ancient crocodiles, walked on all four legs.  So the evidence that this animal walked on only its back legs is impressive and quite unique.

Also very impressive, is that this animal lived at the same time as giant predators like the ancestors of Tyrannosaurus rex.  Batrachopus could easily have been prey for a Tyrannosaur. Yet it seems that Batrapchopus was successful at avoiding big predators and finding its own prey.  Batrapchopus grandis was about 3 meters long, or about 10 feet long.  Yet it managed a successful lifestyle in the presence of giant predators.

Crocodilians are related to Tyrannosaurs, but only rather distantly.
Crocodiles and Theropod dinosaurs had a common ancestor.  Theropods are also the ancestors of birds.  Batrapchopus was NOT a dinosaur.  It was a type of crocodile.  But it DID walk on its two back legs like a Tyrannosaurus.

Batrapchopus grandis is known from tracks that were found in South Korea.  Other, much smaller species of Batrapchopus have been found in other parts of the world, but this new find seems to have been a MUCH bigger animal.  The footprints measure from between 7-9 inches or 18-24 cm. so paleontologists got the crocodile's size estimate from the size of the tracks.

In the background, you can see a Tyrannosaurus rex fighting with a Triceratops.  These two dinosaurs were probably not contemporary animals... unless Batrachopus as a species persisted throughout the Cretaceous Period.  The tracks of Batrachopus, a crocodylomorph, were from the Early Cretaceous Period.  While T. rex was from the Late Cretaceous Period. Crocodylomorphs are basically the name given to all types of both aquatic and more terrestrial crocodiles.
Crocodylomorphs are found over millions of years of Earth's history.

One final note:  There have been other smaller tracks found in South Korea that were thought to be from Pterosaurs (flying reptiles).  But the new discovery of these tracks showed evidence of crocodile scales on the foot and that helped paleontologists realize that the very similar, but smaller tracks that had been found previously were also from smaller types of Batrachopus and that Pterosaurs probably WERE quadrupeds and when on the ground used their wings as feet along with their back legs.

Pangolin

This is a free coloring pages blog.  Today's drawing is a Pangolin.

    Keep

               get
                 to
                   today's
                      drawing.

\Pangolin are amazing animals that have survived on Earth
for millions and millions of years.  Studies show that they evolved from some type of placental mammal that lived in the Cretaceous Period.  That was the time that T. rex ruled the Earth.

Yet now the several surviving species of pangolins are either threatened or endangered.  Sadly, pangolins are the most trafficked species on our present-day Earth.

Pangolins have many amazing scales or armor that is made of keratin.  Some people in the world think that these scales have medicinal uses.  The scientific analysis says that these scales of keratin are made of the same thing as your fingernails and toenails.  The scales of a pangolin really do NOT have any true medicinal value.  But because some people believe that they do this amazing animal is frequently killed for export. Trade of pangolins is banned by international law.  Some cultures consider pangolin meat is a delicacy so pangolins are hunted for their meat as well as their scales.

Pangolins can roll up into a ball when threatened.  They are between 12 and 39 inches long... that is 30-100 cm.  Pangolins eat ants and termites.  They have long tongues so basically they are an armored anteater.  Although they probably are not closely related genetically to anteaters.

Pangolins lead solitary lives, although the mother will spend two years caring for and raising her offspring.  By the way, pangolins are the only known mammal to have large, protective keratin scales.   The pangolin in this drawing is one of the species that lives in sub-Saharan Africa.

This drawing, in printable form, can be found by clicking on the "Animals" category button.  Remember that new drawings are at the bottom of the list.

Alma and Amulek teach the People of Ammonihah

NOTE:  The new drawing follows the words.  I have to post this way in order to put the drawing up full-sized.  This is a free Coloring Pages blog with over 1000 drawings to print and color.  To print a drawing click on the category pages up top.  Scroll to the bottom of the list of titles to get to new drawings.  They are always last on the list.  For today's drawings click on the "Religious" button.

Alma the Younger was a man who once had been bent on destroying the Church of Christ.  He was a young man at the time and his father was head of the church or High Priest.

Alma the Younger was stopped from his mission to destroy the church by an angel.  Further below is my drawing of this event.
Alma's father, the High Priest, had prayed for his son with much faith.  The angel even told this to Alma the Younger.

Alma the Younger was repentant and he completely repented and proceeded to tell everyone about his miraculous conversion to Christ.  He had come to understand that Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins if we choose to repent.

Later, Alma (Alma the Younger) was chosen or elected to be the political ruler or Cheif Judge of all the Nephites.  This was like becoming president or prime minister.  Alma the Younger was also made the High Priest of the Church... after his father's death.

From here on, the Book of Mormon calls Alma the Younger just "Alma," so I will do that too.

After several years as Chief Judge Alma became concerned that some members of the Church were falling away due to... among other things, pride.  So Alma resigned from his political post... but he kept his position as High Priest.

After resigning, Alma went on a mission.  First, he preached to the people in Zarahemla, where he lived.  The people there were starting to fall away.

Next Alma went to the city or land of Melek.  There the people were NOT falling away but were faithful.  Then Alma went to a city called Ammonihah.  There were very wicked people in charge there.  They abused Alma and threw him out.

Alma was journeying away from Ammonihah and planned on never returning when his angel appeared to him again.  This angel told Alma that he was blessed for teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ (ever since he had seen an angel) ...and he even told Alma that he, the angel, was the same angel that appeared to him and his friends when Alma was rebelling against God. I think it is cool that the same angel was sent to tell Alma that he had done well.

Anyway, Alma was obedient and when the angel told him to go back to Ammonihah Alma took off immediately and went back.  He met a man in the city who had been shown Alma in a vision... probably by the same angel.

The man's name was Amulek.  He was a wealthy man who had forgotten about God for years apparently.  He also repented and after staying for a time at his house Alma went out again to teach the people of Ammonihah.  Amulek went with him.

The people were surprised to see that there were now two missionaries testifying of their wickedness.  The below drawing is of Amulek teaching the people as Alma watches.  There are good people who believed in the crowd but the powerful leaders and most of the people chose to not repent.  They were even planning on how they would take away the liberty of the whole Nephite nation.

Alma and Amulek were imprisoned and forced to watch the murder of many of their converts.  The wicked people of Ammonihah cast the believing men out and threw the scriptures and the wives and children into a fire.

Amulek asked Alma why they didn't use the power of God to save them but Alma said that the Lord allowed the wickedness so that the judgments that came upon the wicked would be just.  The righteous women and children were being welcomed into the Spirit World by their Savior, Jesus Christ.

This is hard and we have to try and see with an eternal perspective.
THIS life is but a small part of our eternal existence.  We lived in our premortal life before we came to Earth to get physical bodies...
and we continue to live as spirits in the Spirit World.  And we will all be resurrected as well and the righteous will live for eternity in the Celestial Kingdom.  The wicked will have to pay the price for their sins because the did not repent.  The will always know what they gave up because of their poor choices in mortality.

So here is today's drawing.  It was requested by my niece.  The man teaching the people is Amulek and Alma is standing with him on the platform.  There are wicked leaders in front of Amulek and a righteous family is behind Amulek and receiving his message with joy.  I am also including some other drawings of Alma the Elder's conversion by the preaching of the prophet Abinadi, Alma the Elder baptizing in the Waters of Mormon, and the conversion of Alma the Younger.  These additional drawings are from previous posts.

Forest Fairies coloring pages

This is a free coloring pages blog.  Permission is granted to print pages for kids to color.  Today's NEW drawing is a Forest Fairy climbing a Tree.

Scroll
           down for
                   the new
                         picture
                               and other
                                    drawings
                                          of Forest
                                                  Fairies.

Forest Fairies are the most common of Fairies.  They live on all continents except Antarctica.  They are the most advanced technologically of all the Fairies.  For instance, this Fairy is wearing a flying belt or Volantum Balteum.

These flying belts can be very helpful for flying long distances and at increased speed.  All Fairies can fly, but they have limitations on their speed and distance.  But with a Volantum Balteum they can fly incredible distances... and they can fly at great speeds.

Sometimes a Fairy will choose to go natural, that is fly without the flying belt.  This will limit their speed and distance they can fly, but they sometimes do this when not on the job as pollinators or forest protection duty.

This new drawing is of a Forest Fairy named Autumn.  This may come as a surprise to you, but some Forest Fairies like to climb trees.  This is actually a popular pastime.  To do this the Forest Fairy goes to mortal size.  Their magic and tech allows them to do this.

Then the Forest Fairy finds a tree and has fun climbing.  Sometimes they climb a small tree, and other times they have fun climbing very tall trees in the forest.

Below, the first drawing is the new drawing today.  The rest are drawings from previous posts.  To get to the printable drawings just click on the "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus" button up at the top of the page.  Then scroll down to the bottom of the list of titles for the new drawing.  Older drawings will be further up the list.

Deltadromeus the River Delta Runner & other North African Dinosaurs Coloring Pages

Today's Post is Deltadromeus...

Scroll down to see the drawing.

This is a free coloring pages blog.

The printable pages are found by clicking

on the buttons up top.

These are category buttons.

Anyone can print these for children to color...

But not for commercial purposes.

However, libraries, schools, cruise ships,

daycares, nursing homes etc. DO have

permission to use these drawings.

Deltadromeus the River Delta Runner

Deltadromeus was a medium to large Theropod that lived in a river delta area of what is now North Africa.  It was at least 26 feet long.  That's almost 8 meters long.  There is evidence from a lone femur that showed that perhaps Deltadromeus was possibly 40 feet long.  IF the dinosaur was 26 feet long then it would have weighed somewhere around 1050 lbs. or 476 kg.

The unique feature of this animal is that it had rather long legs.  It is thought to have been a fast runner.  It was found in rock strata that included Charcaordontosuarus and Spinosaurus.  Both of them were much larger Theropods so perhaps Deltadromeus evolved speed for protection.  It would have been able to easily outrun those other huge Theropods.  Even if Deltadromeus WAS 40 feet long it was more lightly built than other Theropods in the region so it would have been able to run rather than fight.  Of course, those long legs would have helped it catch prey species like the herbivore Ouranosaurus.

The closest Pterosaur in the top drawing is Ornithochierus.  The next two are types of Rhaphorichoids. By the way, by the late Cretaceous Period, the Pterosaurs had all lost the long tail.

The name, Deltadromeus, actually means "Delta Runner."

Below are some drawings of the other mid-Cretaceous North African dinosaurs that were named above.  They all lived around Deltadromeus.  The new drawing, of Deltadromeus, will be at the bottom of the list when you click on "Paleontology."  The older drawings...  down below... are found further up the list of titles.
