Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.
Today's new drawings are of the Prophet Joseph Smith.
Joseph Smith the Prophet Portrait
Joseph Smith was the prophet of the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was persecuted and falsely accused many times. He was arrested in Missouri and put in a dungeon in Liberty Jail. He was so distressed, and not just for himself. His people, the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had been persecuted and thrown out of the state. Some members were killed. Some were beaten, and tarred and feathered. Some women were raped. ALL members were forced to leave their homes farms and businesses etc. It was a terrible time. These persecuted people were the first members of God's restored Kingdom here on Earth. They were not pro-slavery and that may have been part of the cause. They were from free states mostly.
But many survived the persecution. Joseph Smith wrote, "Oh God, where is the pavilion that covers your hiding place?" Joseph went on to ask how long the people of the church would suffer. He shared his pleas with God and God's answer in a letter or epistle to the Saints.
Heavenly Father's response is amazing: "My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; and then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes."
Life here in mortality seems so long but it is a tiny speck of our eternal existence.
Joseph Smith and several of his associates, who also had been imprisoned, were eventually allowed to leave Liberty Jail. They moved to Nauvoo Illinois and the Saints set up an amazing city in just a few years. Eventually, Joseph was killed, or more accurately he was martyred, or assassinated. He had been told by God that he would triumph over all his foes. That promise was obviously fulfilled in the next life.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints continues to flourish today. Joseph was followed by the Prophet Brigham Young. We have a modern prophet today. His name is President Russell M. Nelson.
