A Few Animal coloring pages

This is my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawings are of animals.

Bandit the Paint Mustang

Mustangs are free-roaming wild horses in Western North America.  They are the same Genus and species of the domestic horse because it is thought that their ancestors were feral horses.  There IS some evidence that possibly horses WERE used by Native Americans in pre-Columbian days. The genus and species of horses are Equus caballus. So, it is possible that the wild mustangs are descendants of a breed of horses that lived in North America and were used by the Native Americans.

Marbled Salamander

Marbled salamanders are found in the Eastern United States.  The nymphs are aquatic, and in spite of this drawing, the adults are mostly terrestrial and are not great swimmers.  However, the adults breed in the water because the female salamander lays jelly-like eggs, and then the male fertilizes the eggs.  The Genus and species of this salamander are: Ambystoma opacum.

North African Spiny-tailed Lizard

Uri lizards are found in the Middle East and Central Asia. They get most of their water from the food they eat.  They obviously are desert animals. They are omnivores, but most of their diet consists of plants. They will eat an occasional insect.  The Genus and species are: Uromastyx acanthinura.  We saw this animal at a small zoo called Zootopia in Logan, Utah.  I took a photo and drew it for you.  Sorry, but its spiny tail was behind the rock.

Snowy Egret

(The bird with golden slippers)

Near us is a large bird refuge called the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge.  This Snowy Egret was photographed by me two days ago.  I then drew it for you to print and color... although the Snowy Egret itself is white.  But, you can color the water and plants, and sky, etc. The Snowy Egret has "golden slippers."  Because it has black legs with yellow feet. They are waders and live in marshes and swamps, etc. They live in various parts of North America, including Mexico, the southeastern states of the USA, the Western USA states, and along the East Coast.  They also live along the Gulf of Mexico.  Interesting that they live in the Rocky Mountain states and in some of the plains states.  By the way, this bird is called the bird with the golden slippers because of those "golden feet."  Sorry, I did not draw it with one foot out of the water.

Boy Beaver

Girl Beaver

Beavers are the engineers of the mammals of the Animal Kingdom.  When the elk were stripping the trees because of too high numbers in Yellowstone National Park, the wolves were introduced. Then the elk population went down, and the beavers returned.  The beaver ponds were a great habitat for many more species of animals, plus they were a more stable source of drinking water.

By the way, the longer eyelashes are a cartooning trick to make an animal female.

Plush Bunny in Garden

This plush bunny or stuffed toy animal belongs to my granddaughter, and she wanted me to draw it.

NOTE: These animal drawings are found by clicking on the button labeled "Animals." Then scroll down to the last part of the list.  I will also post the Snowy Egret on "Birds." Remember that newer drawings are at the bottom or end of the list of drawing titles.  Have fun coloring!

Gracia the Flower Fairy

This is my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawing is of a lovely Flower Fairy.

 Gracia the Flower Fairy

I should tell you that Gracia is also a Water Lily Fairy.  She loves life on the pond.  She sometimes sleeps inside water lily flowers.  She even will rest on lily pads, but most mortals, if they saw her at all, would see a frog.  Water Lily Fairies are sometimes even considered a type of Pond Fairy.

You may notice that Gracia has strikingly beautiful eyes.  That is something that many Fairies are known for.  Gracia's eyes seem to be in a permanent smile.  Gracia also knows that true beauty comes from kindness and using your gifts to help others.  That is why she has learned so much about medicinal plants - so she can help others.

You see, Gracia is also a Healer Fairy.  She specializes in the water lily's medicinal uses.  Both roots and leaves have various medicinal uses.  Gracia gathers parts of water lilies and makes teas and tinctures to help mostly mortals.  She can, like all Fairies, internalize her wings, cloak her pointed ears, and transform to mortal size.  In fact, I met Gracia in her mortal form.  She was at a shop that sells many types of medicinal herbs.  I recognized her as a Fairy because of her striking eyes.

NOTE:  This drawing is found in printable form by clicking on the button labeled "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus.  Then scroll down.  If you are accessing this during the summer of 2025, you will find this drawing at or near the bottom of the list.  Have fun coloring this beautiful and intelligent Fairy.

D-Day 81st Anniversary Higgins Boat Landing Craft & Destroyer USS Fitch coloring pages

This is my free coloring pages blog.

Today, we celebrate the D-Day invasion, 81 years ago.

This invasion was the beginning of the end of Hitler's fascist rule.

The boat is a Higgins Boat.

LCVP Higgins Boat

The Higgins Boat was the primary landing craft of the D-Day invasion. LCVP stands for Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel.  It could carry 36 combat soldiers. It had a drop-down ramp.  It could alternatively carry a jeep or 8000 lbs of cargo.  It was actually the primary landing craft for the US Army and Marines during World War II.  It was designed by swamp boat builder Andrew Jackson Higgins out of New Orleans.

USS Fitch Destroyer

The sea was rough.  Many amphibious tanks sank in the high surf. German defenses were particularly fierce on Omaha Beach. Many men died during the invasion.  Yet there were amazing feats of courage that won the day.  This included some US Navy destroyers that sailed in close to take out the German bunkers with 5-inch guns. The USS Fitch sailed in close to Utah Beach.  It was directed by General Theodore Roosevelt, who was onshore with his men.

NOTE: These drawings can be found in printable form by clicking on the button that says Vehicles and Military Vehicles.  Then scroll down to the title you seek.  The most recent drawings are at the end of the list.

Battle of Midway 83rd Anniversary with Carrier Planes and a new drawing of the USS Yorktown CV-5

Today, on my free coloring pages blog, we are remembering

The Battle of Midway - that occurred 83 years ago today.

These are some of the aircraft that were involved in the battle.

 F-4F Wildcat Fighter Plane

The F-4F was the main carrier-based United States Navy fighter.  The plane in the distance is a Japanese Zero fighter.  It was a great fighter but the Zero was lightly armored so the American pilots learned how to take advantage of this weakness.  But the Zero shot down many American planes at Midway.

Devastator TBD Torpedo Bomber

These planes were obsolete, and the crews paid a terrible price. They did not make a single successful torpedo hit, but they DID draw down the Japanese fighter cover so that when the dive bombers attacked, there were no Japanese Zero fighters to hinder them.

Dauntless Dive Bomber

This is the plane that finally did the damage to the Japanese aircraft carriers.  In a span of only about five minutes, they fatally damaged 3 fleet carriers.  A few hours later, they fatally damaged the fourth and final Japanese carrier.  One American aircraft carrier was also damaged by bombs and torpedoes and finally sunk by a Japanese submarine.  This aircraft carrier was the Yorktown.  The Yorktown can be seen in the distance of the Torpedo Bomber drawing.  AND the Yorktown, CV-5, is the main subject of the drawing below.

USS Yorktown CV-5

(This is the one new drawing today.)

The USS Yorktown was a fleet carrier and was the only US carrier hit in the Battle of Midway.  She had been damaged at the Battle of the Coral Sea, but repairmen were miraculously able to repair her in time for the battle.  Some personnel were still onboard when she sailed.  So when the Japanese first hit it with bombs, the sailors (with help from the reapairmen) were able to repair the ship well enough in a few hours to be operational.  When the next wave of Japanese bombers hit her, they thought it was an undamaged second aircraft carrier.  Sadly, she was hit with two torpedo bombers' torpedoes, and the ship had to be abandoned.  Then later, she was spotted and torpedoed by a Japanese submarine.  By the way, dive bombers from the Yorktown fatally hit the Japanese carrier Soryu.

NOTE: All these drawings are found on the "Vehicles and Military Vehicles" page of this blog.  Just click on the button and scroll down to find the correct drawing.  The Yorktown drawing will be at the end of the list or near it if you are accessing this during the summer of 2025.

Irish Elk or Megaloceros giganteus

This is my free coloring pages blog.

Every few days, I add another drawing or two or three.

These are drawings that I did myself, freehand.

You may print these for kids or adults to color.

Today's new drawing is of a prehistoric, gigantic deer.

Irish Elk by a River

The Megaloceros giganteus was a prehistoric member of the deer family.  It was the largest member of the deer family ever to live on Earth.  It is also called the Irish Elk, although it is not an elk.  It is more closely related to fallow deer. Of course, fallow deer weigh around 200 lbs.

The Irish Elk weighed more like 1540 lbs or 700 kg.  Megaloceros was up to almost 12 feet high - if you count the height of the antlers.  That is around 3.70 meters tall.

This was a VERY successful species because it lived between 400,000 years ago and 7,500 years ago.  It is thought that climate change and human hunting probably drove it to extinction.

NOTE:  This drawing can be found to print by clicking on the button labeled "Paleontology."  Then look for it at the bottom of the "Cenozoic Era" section of the list.  Have fun coloring!
