This is my free coloring pages blog.
There are over 3000 drawings that I have done for you to print and color.
Today's new drawing is of an Apatosaurus.
Apatosaurs at a Lookout
Apatosaurus was a large Sauropod of the Jurassic Period of the Mesozoic Era. It could grow up to 75 feet or 23 meters long and weighed up to 22 tons. I would think that this drawing is of a juvenile or sub-adult Apatosaurus. They were part of the Sauropod group of herbivorous dinosaurs. They had tree-trunk-like legs and long necks with long tails. They were LAND animals, not swamp dwellers, as originally thought.
Plesiosaur and Ichthyosaur
The more well-known Plesiosaur are the long-necked ones like the one seen here. Plesiosaurs lived in the Jurassic Period and on into the Cretaceous Period. Some Plesiosaurs were up to 50 feet or 15 meters long.
The dolphin-shaped marine reptile is an Ichthyosuar. Some rather early Ichthyosaurs were absolutely huge, and so the gigantic ones lived in the Triassic Period - the first period of the Mesozoic Era. They were up to 70 feet long. These marine reptiles were NOT dinosaurs. They were marine reptiles.
Tylosaurus the Mosasaur
Tylosaurus was a large 50 feet or 15 meter long Mosasaur. It lived in the Cretaceous Period. It was once thought that they had a long, flat eel-like tail. Now we know that at least some of them had a tail fluke.
Pteranodons near a Volcanic Island
Pteranodon was a large flying reptile. It was not a dinosaur. It had a wingspan of 18 feet. It had no teeth yet it ate fish. In fact, the name "Pteranodon" means winged without teeth.
NOTE: There are many more dinosaur and other Mesozoic life drawings that can be printed by clicking on the button labeled "Paleontology." Then scroll down to the bottom of the Mesozoic Life section of the page. These four new drawings will be at or near the bottom of the list of drawing titles IF you are accessing this site in April of 2025. Have fun coloring these Mesozoic animals. Again, remember there are hundreds more you can print and color.
