Moses in the Bulrushes

Moses in the Bulrushes with the Princess of Egypt
(new drawing)
Moses was a baby Hebrew or Israelite.  His people and his family were slaves to the Egyptians.   The evil Egyptian Pharaoh gave an order for all male Israelite children to be killed.  This led to Moses' brave mother putting her baby in a floating basket and putting it into the Nile River.  God looked after the basket. . . so did Miriam, Moses' older sister.  Miriam had been tasked by her mother with watching what happened to the basket and her precious baby son.  So Miriam was probably hiding among the foliage as the basket floated along.

The basket was found by a princess of Egypt and she took compassion on the baby.  When Miriam saw she came forward and told the princess that there was a wet nurse who could take care of the baby until he was weaned.  As it turned out, then, Moses had a "wet nurse" who was his own mother.  Moses was weaned and taken by the princess and raised among the royalty of Egypt.

Moses was well educated.  I think that he possibly learned languages beyond Egyptian.  In fact I suspect that he learned the language of his own people.  Of course, eventually Moses was forced to flee Egypt for killing an Egyptian that was abusing and possibly killing a Hebrew slave.  Then Moses married the Priest of Midian's daughter and Moses one day, under direction and command of God, returned to Egypt to free the people of God...being the Hebrews or Children of Israel or Israelites.  These were Moses' own people and they were God's people as well.  .

Below are other older drawings from the life of the great prophet Moses:
