Nike or Victory

Nike or Victory with Holly as the Model

Nike or Victory was the Goddess of Victory in Ancient Greece.  Nike was the daughter of Zeus.  She is shown as a beautiful winged woman.  This drawing of Nike (also known as Victory or the Goddess of Victory) is special because the face is based on a dancer from our Mediterranean cruise.  Her parents were eating at the table where our Niece and her family ate.  We sometimes ate with them so we got to know Holly.  Holly agreed to be a model for this drawing.  She was very cool about it.  She said photos are a part of her career.  I took the photo over a month ago and have now drawn from it.  Thank you Holly.  I hope you like my rendition of you in a coloring page style drawing.  I liked it so much that I decided to not add any other figures or etc. to the drawing so Nike would be the focus.  To anyone who colors the drawing, feel free to add Greek buildings or trees etc.  By the way, to get a bit of the likeness of Holly the drawing had to be more of a close up...hence the entire body is not seen in the drawing.

Nike was the daughter of Zeus, the king of the gods. Zeus and Nike are both Greek gods.  The great statue of Nike is now at the Louvre Museum in Paris.  Unfortunately, when armies conquered a city or city state back in the day the first thing they did is knock the heads off of the statues.  To me it is amazing that the beautiful wings were not damaged in any way.

We got our daughter a Nike or Victory statue as well.   In a funny twist of fate our other daughter had bought one online for her sister.  The statues are different but I plan to take a picture of both and add them to the post.  We are going up to see our daughter who got both statues for Christmas.  Ours is not as authentic as the one our younger daughter bought.  The below statues are the one we bought:

NOTE:  The printable version of the drawing is found on the buttons above.  Scroll down because new drawings are at the bottom of the lists.  Click on either "All Printables" or "Fantasy & Myths."
