Biggest Swans in America coloring pages

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

Today's new drawings are of 2 species of Swans

that are native to North America, and one species that is here but is non-native.

The last drawing is of a non-native swan, but it is a drawing from

a previous post.  It is a drawing of a Black Swan.

Trumpeter Swan with Cygnets

The Trumpeter Swan is the largest species of swan.  The males can have a wingspan of 10 feet or 9 meters.  They can weigh up to 26 lbs.  That is almost 12 kg.  Trumpeter swans are omnivores, feeding on insects and water plants as well as off of harvested corn, grain, and soybean fields.  Trumpeter Swans are hard to distinguish from their smaller relative - the Tundra Swan.  But Trumpeter Swans have a different call and they truly are much bigger. Sometimes the two species can be sighted together.  A Trumpeter Swan's call can travel up to 5 miles.

Tundra Swans on a Pond

Tundra Swans are smaller than Trumpeter Swans, but they are very similar.  One thing that is different is a yellow spot on the base of the bill of most Tundra Swans.  These swans have a wingspan of up to 83 inches or 211 cm.  So that is a large wingspan of 6 feet 11 inches.  Impressive but not near as wide as the Trumpeter Swan wingspan.  Swans mate for life.  They can be split up by death or the death of their chicks.  Then the two sad parents will find another swan of the opposite sex to again, "mate for life."  Swans are actually very loyal and both parents help raise their young.  But only the female swan will incubate the eggs.  I guess the male helps keep watch.

Mute Swan on a Forest Pond

The Mute Swan is native to the old world, but it has been introduced to America from Europe - to decorate large estates and to be seen in zoos.  This started from the mid-1800s to and went until around 1900.  But some of the Mute Swans escaped and established breeding colonies in North America!

Mute Swans are not mute, but their calls are muffled and don't carry like the other species of swans. Mute Swans have a wingspan of 7 feet 11 inches.  (The biggest males do.)  That is 2.4 meters.

NOTE:  These drawings, in printable form, are found by clicking on the "Birds" button and scrolling down.  The newest drawings are at the bottom of the list.  Click on the title and print.  Below is the older drawing I did of a Black Swan.  It is a drawing I did of a Black Swan that lives in a nearby zoo.  The drawing of the Black Swan will be further up the list.  New drawings are at the bottom of the list.

Black Swan in a River

Remember to color him black because Black Swans have a red bill.  Also,  It this is a male or a cob.  Females are called a pen.  This swan attacked our granddaughter through the fence of the zoo.  So from experience, I can tell you they are aggressive.  So they are both beautiful and grumpy.

We saw a whole flock of these Black Swans at the mouth of the Columbia River at the Washington State and Oregon border.  My wife and I were surprised because we knew that Black Swans are native to Australia.   But we did some research and discovered that, like Mute Swans, these Black Swans had been brought to the USA or Canada and escaped from estates to form their own wild flocks.

By the way, we met an expert on the local swans at the Bear River Migratory bird refuge. He is the  Bear River Blogger.  He often tells readers who go to his blog when to see different birds at the refuge.

Torvosaurus Mother teaching her Young to Hunt coloring page

Today's new drawing is a quick drawing of Torvosaurus for kids to color.

This is my free coloring pages blog.

Torvosaurus Mother teaching Her Young to Hunt

Torvosaurus was a large predator of the mid to late Jurassic Period of North America.  It was more robust than its contemporary, and probably rival Allosaurus.  Some estimates put Torvosarus at 36 feet or 11 meters long or even bigger. The Pterosaur in the air is a Ramphorhynchus.  The trees in the drawing are cycads.  By the way, Allosaurus and Torvosaurus both had large arms with three-fingered hands.  Unlike the later Tyrannosaurs, Torvosaurus and Allosaurus had arms big enough to grapple with their prey.

Sir Jacobus Lindhart the Young Dragon Slayer coloring page

Welcome back to my free coloring pages blog. This blog has around 2400 drawings that you can print and color.  I drew almost all of them.  About 6 were done by my grand-nephews and a grand-niece.    This latest new drawing is a drawing of a Young Danish Dragon Slayer.

Sir Jacobus Lindhart the Young Dragon Slayer

Sir Jacobus Lindhart was a well-known Danish Dragon Slayer of the 6th century A. D.  He slew his first dragon when he was just 14 years old.  This is a drawing of that Dragon Slaying.  Jacobus was knighted after this kill.  He was the youngest knight in the history of Denmark.  He went on to slay 20 dragons in his career.  He preferred to be called Sir Jacobus but his official title was Sir Lindhart.

Dragons were real.  They are now extinct.  The dragons could fly because they could separate water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen components.  Hydrogen is way less dense than air and the dragons had pouches of hydrogen in their bodies.  The dragons would expel hydrogen and oxygen at the same time.  They had teeth with a concentration of heavier metals so they could click their teeth together to make a spark as they began to forcibly exhale the two gasses.  Of course, the result was a fire.  So dragons really COULD expel fire, but they could not really breathe fire.

Unfortunately for the dragons, their bad behavior of stealing livestock and people, (especially young maidens) made their destruction a priority for the human population.  Dragons were susceptible to human weapons.  Those medieval weapons may seem primitive to us modern people, but they represented an advanced technology that the Dragons could not cope with.

Vikings in Denmark were using steel 1000 years before Sir Lindhart's lifetime.  He lived from 510 to 595  C.E. (formerly A.D.)  By the way, Sir Lindhart died of old age.  He never was killed by one of the many dragons he fought.  So the Vikings in Denmark, Sir Lindhart's ancestors, were using steel around 500 B.C.E (formerly B.C.) And the Vikings were the first to slay dragons, although for a time they tamed and trained Dragons.  It is too bad that era came to an end and the Dragons returned to their wild and bloodthirsty ways.  None of us in our modern age will ever see a Dragon.  It is too bad that the Dragon elimination became necessary.  But they would not leave the humans alone.  The years of being tame had removed their fear of humans.  So the extinction of Dragons was, unfortunately, a necessity.

In this drawing, Sir Lindhard has slain the young dragon.  Of course, he himself is quite young as well.  You should look closely and you will see that the dragon is not exactly symmetrical.  It has long horns that are similar to antlers.  But if you look closely you can see that the horns are not symmetrical.  Another odd feature of dragons is that their eyes were not exactly symmetrical.  One eye was slightly forward on the head compared to the other eye.  In the distance, you can see a castle that has been harassed by the attacking local dragons.  But the other dragons are withdrawing because whenever one dragon is killed the other dragons sense it and become filled with fear.  So Sir Jacobus' killing of this young dragon still saved the kingdom from the attack because the other dragons will not get over their fear for a couple of years or so.  By the way, this type of dragon was called a Black Eyed Dragon because its armored eyelids were dark.  I chose to not draw the iron-tipped arrow that killed this dragon.  It must be assumed that it is under the dragon, or completely imbedded in his body from a shot from down below.

NOTE:  This drawing, in printable form, is found by clicking on the button labeled "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus."  Dragons are a myth, but does that mean they never existed.  Remember that some myths have their basis in fact.  Remember that if you scroll down to the bottom of the list after clicking on the "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus" button then you will find this drawing at the end.

3 new Fairy coloring pages

This is my free coloring pages blog...

where I draw the pictures.

Today I am posting 3 new Fairy drawings. I have a backlog of Fairy drawings.

In fact, I will be posting a few more Fairy drawings in a day or two.

There are no fees or ads on this blog - just coloring pages to draw.

Luciole the Young Mountain Firefly Fairy

Firefly Fairies live wherever there are fireflies.   There are 165 species of fireflies in North America, but there are 2200 species in the world.  Some of the species live in the mountains. There are 19 species of fireflies that live in the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern USA.  Several species of fireflies live in the Rocky Mountain region as well.  Here in Utah, where I live, there are 6 species of fireflies.  Of the six species in Utah, only two of them flash.  The fireflies that can flash all have bioluminescence.

This kind Young Mountain Fairy is named Luciole.  Her name even means "firefly" in French.  She is very gifted at protecting the habitat of the fireflies.  She focuses on mountain fireflies so she is a Mountain Firefly Fairy.  She is only about 11 or 12 years old.  She is using her magic wand to call all lost fireflies in this mountainous area to her, so she can bring them to the local sparkle of fireflies.  (A group of fireflies is called a sparkle or light posse.)

NOTE:  To get to these drawings, in printable form, just click on the button labeled "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus."  Then scroll down to the bottom of the drop-down menu.  There are a LOT of drawings.  But the newer drawings are at the bottom of the list.

Jument the Unicorn Mare Fairy

Jument (pronounced joo-man) means mare in French.  This Fairy, named Jument, is a type of Unicorn Fairy that focuses on helping out female Unicorns.  Jument is seen here bringing a large apple to a Unicorn Mare.  We see Jument here in her mortal-sized form.  All Fairies can transform to mortal size or be in their 5-inch tall or so Fairy size... or they can transform to any size in between.

Flower Fairies - Dianthus the Carnation Fairy

Dianthus is one of the Flower Fairies.  She focuses on Carnations.  I should add that carnations can come in many different colors.  There are some shades of yellow, orange, green, and red that were made via selective breeding.

You can also change the color of a white carnation by cutting the stem at an angle and adding food coloring or dye to the water in a vase.  Then put the carnation in the colored water.  Within hours you will see the petals begin to change color.

Daniel is Saved From the Lions in the Lions' Den coloring pages

Today's new drawing is of Daniel in the Lion's Den.

It is a rather simple drawing, not super realistic.

But young kids should like coloring it.

Daniel is Saved from the Lions

(today's new drawing)

Daniel was a captive of Babylon.  He was one of the righteous people from the Kingdom of Judah, which had been taken captive.  He was so wise that he was made an advisor to King Nebuchadnezzar, and to the king's son, and when Babylon was taken by the Medes and the Persians Daniel became a counselor to King Darius.

But others of King Darius' advisors or ministers were jealous of Daniel so they devised a plan where the king would make a law that people could only pray to him for 30 days. Daniel was not going to not worship and pray to God so he was thrown into a den of lions.  But the Lord sent an angel to shut the lion's mouths.

Daniel is seen in this new drawing just as the angel is descending from Heaven to come into the lion's den.  So use your crayons or colored pencils to draw rays of (yellow) light shining down from the upper left part of the drawing.

NOTE:  This drawing is found in printable form by clicking on the button labeled: "Religious."  Then scroll down to the bottom of the list.  Have fun coloring and again, be sure to draw light or maybe even an angel descending from Heaven to save Daniel.  Below are some older drawings of Daniel and the Lions' den.

McKennia the Mermaid and McKennia transformed into Mortal Form coloring pages

Today's new drawing is of the Mermaid I drew a couple of weeks ago.

Her name is McKennia... but she is drawn here transformed into her Mortal form.

McKennia the Mermaid transformed into Mortal Form

New Drawing

McKennia, like all Mermaids, can use her Mermaid Magic to transform into Mortal Form.  Here we see her wading in the surf with the California Gull she was talking to in the last drawing of her.  The California Gull is doing some wave riding in the ocean surf.  Remember that McKennia is a Seagull Mermaid.

In this drawing, McKennia is wading in the Pacific Ocean surf after transforming into her mortal form.  She actually lives much of her life among mortals.  She works in Ophthalmology because as a Mermaid she has excellent eyesight.  In fact, Mermaids have way better vision than mortals.  Mermaids need to be able to see deep in the ocean where there is little light penetrating.  McKennia feels bad for mortals who have such inferior vision compared to Merpeople.  In fact, Merpeople, when on the land in mortal state, can see fine on even the darkest night.

In this drawing, the feet are slightly distorted and less visible because of the bending of light underwater.  Can you spot the single Frigate Bird in this drawing?  There are two Frigate Birds in the drawing of McKenna in Mermaid form.  In today's drawing, we can not see McKennia's pointed ears - but it doesn't matter because the transformation to mortal form makes her ears like a mortal.  In the first drawing, down a while back, you can see her pointed ears.  Many Mermaids do have pointed ears... in their Mermaid state.

The ship in the background is modeled after Allure of the Seas, the biggest cruise ship in the world. It is a 12,000-ton ship.  It is 213 feet tall above the waterline.  This enormous cruise ship is 1181 feet long and 154 feet wide.  By the way, I am not getting paid to talk about this, but we HAVE been on two cruises with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line... which operates this ship.  We did NOT cruise on this ship but we want to someday.  It is an Oasis Class ship.

NOTE:  This drawing, in printable form, can be found by clicking on the button labeled "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus."  Then scroll down to the bottom of the drop-down menu.  The first drawing of McKennia in her Mermaid form is just a little above this drawing on the list.  To remind you of the original drawing of McKennia... in Mermaid Form, I am posting it below.  Have fun coloring!

Football Player Jake Lindhearted coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawing is of a one-day famous football player.

Jake Lindhearted

Jake Lindhearted is a soon-to-be-famous football player in the NFL.  He will be a top running back who will set records in the National Football League.  He is not in the NFL yet, but he soon will be.  He will play for the Denver Broncos and then the New England Patriots and New England will win another 3 Superbowls because of his amazing rushing and catching skills.  He will have 5 games with over 300 yards rushing.  He will almost always rush for at least 200 yards each game.  He will also regularly have a team-high receiving yards in many games.

Jake will play in 8 Pro-Bowl games and be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This will be surprising because he will be a walk-on player for the Denver Broncos and then move the next year to play for New England.  He will play one week on the Patriot's practice squad and then be transferred to the main team.

He will be awarded a 5-year $150,000,000.00 contract by New England - after his first Superbowl win.  He then will start a charity for children.  Plus he will sponsor many scholarships and he will give away 90% of the money that he actually will clear after taxes.

NOTE:  To get to the printable version of this drawing of an amazing football player, just click on the "Sports" button and scroll down to the bottom of the drop-down menu.  Then click on the title to get the coloring page.  You will need to print the page to color it.
