Chance the Clown

Chance the Clown

This is a drawing of a clown that went to the Barnum and Bailey Clown College. . . before tbe Circus closed down. Chance the Clown loves to make people laugh. . . especially kids.   The dog doing tricks is a Bichon Frise.  To me it was a sad day when the Barnum and Bailey Circus closed down.

River Fairies

 River Fairy kneeling

Bank Dwelling River Fairies are a beautiful type of fairy that are known to help people who get in trouble on the waterways that the fairies protect.  They love water.  But they are not mermaids.  They live on the shore and often in the nearby woods, although they can swim quite well.  To swim they fold their wings tightly against their backs.

There are other types of River Fairies that actually have fin-like wings.  Those types of fairies live in the rivers and lakes.  The drawing below is of one of those River Fairies swimming in the river.  They are called Aquatic River Fairies.  They are actually a type of fresh water Mermaid.  They can breathe water like a fish.  So they get their needed oxygen from the oxygen that is trapped in the river.  Aquatic River Fairies are actually a specialized type of Nyad.  Aquatic Water Fairies, unlike regular Nyads, can fly out of the water and even walk on land, however, like an amphibian, they can not allow themselves to get dry or they will dehydrate and die.  For this reason Aquatic Water Fairies like to fly on rainy days or nights.  The rain also tends to hide them from mortal eyes.

A science note now:  The animals with gills that live in the water still need oxygen to live.  They extract the oxygen from the water.  The rivers and creeks have more oxygen than a lake.  Water that is moving picks up more oxygen. . . especially when it tumbles down a waterfall or over a boulder that is in the water.  Also, an amphibian has leaky skin.  When the area outside of their skin is dry. . . ie air. . . then the water moves out of their cells.  This is why frogs on land look like they have slimy skin.  . . the water is leaking out.  When an amphibian gets back in the water they re-hydrate.

NOTE:  The top drawing is based on a beautiful Medical Assistant.  She has pink hair and lovely eyes.  The drawing, of course, does not capture her true beauty.  It is done in a cartoon style or a stylized cartoon.  The printable version of this cartoon drawing is found by clicking on the correct buttons at the top of the page.  That would be the  Fantasy Myths and Circus and the All Printables buttons.  The new drawings, like these two, are placed at the bottom of the lists of printable drawings.

President and Sister Nelson

President and Sister Nelson

President Russell M. Nelson and his wife Sister Wendy Nelson are depicted in this drawing.  After his first wife, Sister Dantzel Nelson, passed away President Nelson eventually married Sister Wendy Watson. . . . who is now known as Sister Wendy Nelson.

President Nelson is our Prophet and the President of our church.   We are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Today in our General Conference President Nelson announced that our Sunday church meetings will now only go for 2 hours instead of 3.  For a handicapped person like me, this is a great blessing.  It is very hard for me to sit through 3 hours of church meetings.  Thank you President Nelson.

This drawing is found in printable form by clicking on the Religious button at the top of the page.  It is under the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints section.   This new drawing are at the bottom of that part of the list.

Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho

Joshua at the Battle of Jericho

Joshua was an earl leader of the people of Israel.  He went up against the then very wicked city of Jericho.  Jericho was known for its high impenetrable walls.  Joshua, with the Lord's guidance and clear miraculous help won the battle.  God caused the walls to fall down and the Children of Israel conquered the city.  This story of how the city was conquered is amazing and it is found in the Holy Bible in the book of  Joshua Chapter 6.

This drawing shows Joshua at the front of his army.  You have the same view of Joshua and the falling walls of Jericho that his soldiers would have had.   The sword he is carrying is based on the ancient swords of Israel found in Palestine and now in museums.

Coloring Pages for Conference

Here are some coloring pages for kids to color during conference.  I will be adding more as I draw more Religious drawings today.  I have already started a Battle of Jericho drawing.  I also plan to draw a picture of President Russell M. Nelson, who is the prophet and President of our church.  Today and tomorrow is General Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  I draw during church on Sundays and often give drawings to kids who are sitting near us.   I also bring crayons...although often their parents have brought crayons.  Although these drawings are Religion related.  .   .  you can print any of my pages for kids to color.   Remember that these are posted to remind you of what is available to print, but the printable pages for today's blog are found under the Religious button up top.  The Battle of Jericho and the drawing of our prophet will be posted later today.

Jesus ascending into Heaven
(He first gave his disciples a charge to go preach the Gospel.)

Joseph Smith's First Vision

(Joseph Smith founded our Church.  We believe that as a 14 year old boy he was visited by Heavenly Father and the Son of God Jesus Christ.  We believe that Heavenly Father and Jesus are separate and distinct individuals.  Jesus told Joseph that he, Joseph would be an instrument in the hands of God in restoring the true Gospel and Church of Jesus Christ to the Earth.)

Abraham and Isaac The Binding
(The Jews have a tradition that Isaac ASKED to be bound when he found out
that God had commanded his father to offer him as a sacrifice.)

Abraham is stopped by an Angel
(Of course, an angel stopped Abraham from offering up his son Isaac.
It had all been a test of Abraham's and perhaps Isaac's faith in God.}
Apostle Thomas and Apostle Bartholomew
(Tradition has it that Thomas and Bartholomew traveled to
Asia to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.)

The Plan of Salvation
(We believe that before we lived on Earth we lived as Spirit Children in a premortal live with our Heavenly Parents.  Or Heavenly Parents HAD glorified bodies.    We  passed through a veil of forgetfulness to come to Earth and receive a mortal body and to be tested and tried.  At death our body and spirit separate and our spirit goes to the Spirit World where it is to continue its progression.
Those who knew the Gospel and accepted it on Earth teach toe Gospel to the spirits who did not have that opportunity while living in their mortal bodies.  We eventually are resurrected.  That means we receive a glorified and resurrected body.  Of course the place we go to live and our level of glory depend upon our deeds and faith on Earth during our test.  So, we all are guilty of sins. . . so Jesus Christ came to Earth to suffer and die to pay the punishment or price for our sins.  So He is our Savior because if we have faith in Him and repent of our sins we can go to live with our Heavenly Father and Mother and Jesus Christ in the Celestial Kingdom.  There are 3 Kingdoms of Glory based upon what people are willing to receive and based upon their repentance or lack thereof. . . and of course based upon their deeds on Earth.

Together in the Celestial Kingdom
(We believe that in the Celestial Kingdom we will be able to live with our spouse and family forever in glory and happiness.  Of course we need to be sealed for time and all eternity in one of the Temples of our God.  That is why we build temples.  We believe that Families are Forever.

That is a sample of some of my Religious Drawings.   Click on the Religious button at the top of the page and you will see the titles of many more drawings.

Dilong the Feathered Tyrannosaur

Dilong

Dilong paradoxus was an early Tyrannosaur.  It was the ancestor of the more well known Tyrannosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex.  Dilong was a small dinosaur.  It was only about 6 1/2 feet or about 2 meters long and weighed around 24 lbs.  That is a mass of about 11 kg.  Dilong was only about 3 feet or about a meter tall.  There were other large Theropods at the time that had that top of the food chain niche.  The presence of the larger carnivores kept Dilong from evolving into a larger form earlier on.  Dilong was from the Jurassic Period while T. rex was from the later period called Cretaceous.

Dilong was found in China and the name means Emperor Dragon.  It had a crest or two crests on the top of its skull.  Protofeathers. . . not flying feathers but feathers that acted and looked like fur were found as part of the fossilized animal.  This evidence of feathers on an early Tyrannosaur bodes well for the idea that one day we will discover proof that T. rex had feathers as well.  If the ancestor has the trait that is evidence that the descendant may have the trait as well.

Of course Dilong paradoxus still had grasping claws.  It had three claws, not the two claws per hand on the much later Tyrannosaurus rex.  Dilong's teeth were sharp teeth for slashing prey.  Its relative T. rex would evolve bone crushing banana shaped teeth millions of years later.  Of course T. rex was much larger than Dilong.  T. rex was around 40 feet long and weighed somewhere between 18,000 and 15,000 lbs.  That is between 6,100 and 8.164 kg.

Both the drawings on today's entry in the blog were made in part from photos of the dinosaur's skull.

NOTE:  The below drawing is from an older post so it is found further up the lists of printable drawings.  The top drawing, of Dilong, is at the bottom of the lists.  You can find these under the "All Printables" button or the "Paleontology" button.   The buttons are at the top of the blog.

African Killer Dinosaur Eocarcharia

Eocarcharia and Pterodactylus

Eocarcharia was a relative of Carcharodontosaurus and lived in the Cretaceous Period in what is now the country of the Republic of Niger on the continent of Africa.  The name Eocarcharia means "dawn shark".  They had sharp teeth for tearing like a shark.   In fact Charcharodontosaurus means shark tooth and Eocarcharia was an early Carcharodontorsaur.  Its teeth were very knife-like and were used to kill and tear up prey.  This dinosaur, Eocarcharia, had a crest of sorts on the top front of  its skull that probably gave it a mean looking permanent scowl.  The dinosaur was about 26 feet or 8 meters long.  It was discovered by the famous paleontologist Paul Sereno. . . of the University of Chicago.  He, Dr. Paul Sereno is a National Geographic Explorer in Residence.

Pterodactylus was also a prehistoric animal found in Africa.  It has also been found in Europe.  Mostly juveniles have been found.  It had only about a meter or 3 feet wing span.  It was found in Late Jurassic Rocks but I supposed it may have lived in a more evolved form into the Cretaceous Period when Eocarcharia lived.  Pterodactylus had a crest and unlike Pteranodon, it had teeth.  It appears to have been a fish eater or piscivore.

The later Carcharodontosaurs were much bigger, perhaps even as big or bigger than T. rex.  The below drawings are from previous posts so they are found further up in the lists when you click on the buttons at the top of the page to get printable drawings.  Today's new drawing, the one with Eocarcharia and Pterodactylus is at the bottom of the page in the Mesozoic section when you click on the Paleontology button. . . OR at the bottom of the All Printables list.

Carcharodontosaurus

This was possibly a descendant of Eocarcharia and it was much bigger than its ancestor.  It included two species and one species weighed as much as 15 tons and was around 44 feet or over 13 meters long.   If you wonder about the flowering plants, remember that pollen from flowers has been found dating way back to the Triassic Period, maybe even further back.  So yes, flowers existed in all of the dinosaur periods.

Pteranodon evading a Tylosaurus

Pteranodon was a much larger Pterosaur buy it lacked teeth. This Pteranodon is avoiding becoming a meal for Tylosaurus.  Tylosaurus was a 55 foot or 17 meter long marine reptile of the Cretaceous Period.  Recent finds indicate that perhaps some of these Mosasaurs like Tylosaurus may have had tail flukes and not the eel-like tail.
