Happy Memorial Day

To honor those who died and those who served our country here in the USA, we celebrate Memorial Day today.

Dauntless SBD Dive Bomber
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was a World War II American naval scout plane and dive bomber that was manufactured from 1940 through 1944. The SBD Dauntless Dive bomber was the United States Navy's main carrier-borne scout plane and dive bomber from mid-1940 through mid-1944.  It played a key role in both the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway.  .   .  and on to the end of World War II.  The SBD had dive flaps on the wings.  These dive flaps were perforated to allow the plane to slow to 276 mph during an attacking dive on an enemy ship or land target.

F-16 Fighting Falcon Fighter Bomber
The F-16 Fighter Bomber (Falcon) is currently in service by the USA and many of our allies.  It is currently being replaced by the F-35 Fighter Bomber (Lightning II).  The F-16 is a beautiful plane in my opinion.  The F-16 can fly at Mach 2 or 1500 mph.  Mach means the speed of sound so it can fly twice the speed of sound.  It can fly over 50,000 feet high (15,240 meters).  It could carry thousands of lbs of bombs or missiles and could fly in both a role as a fighter and/or a bomber.  I love the way this plane looks.  I built a model of it when I was a teenager.  I will miss seeing them in the air.
