Lazarus and the Rich Man

This is my free coloring pages blog.

There are over 3000 coloring pages that I have drawn

that you can print for children or adults to color.

Today's new drawings are about the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man.

Lazarus and the Rich Man in Mortality

Lazarus and the Rich Man after Mortality

Lazarus was a poor man who begged at the door of a rich man's house. Dogs even licked the sores on Lazarus' body.  (By the way, that would be a kindness by the dogs. But it indicates a complete lack of proper care and abject poverty with homelessness.  Presumably, the rich man was not kind to Lazarus.

When Lazarus died, he was taken into the bosom of Abraham.  That is, he went to Paradise. The rich man also died and went to what we call Spirit Prison or Hell.  The rich man saw Lazarus and Father Abraham from a distance and asked Father Abraham to send Lazarus to dip his finger in water to quench the thirst of the rich man, because he was in torment.

Abraham told the rich man that Lazarus had misery in his mortal life and the rich man had abundance, so now their roles were reversed.  Abraham also said that there was a great gulf between Paradise and Spirit Prison (Heaven and Hell), so no one could pass between the two places.

Then the rich man thought of his brothers, and he wanted Lazarus to appear to them and warn them.  Abraham said that the brothers had the scriptures.  But the rich man said that they would listen to a man raised from the dead or presumably an angel. Abraham's answer was that if they wouldn't listen to Moses and the prophets, etc., they would not listen to a man raised from the dead.

To me, "Moses and the Prophets" refers to scriptures and also living prophets.

This was a parable that Jesus taught. Read the story in Luke 16, verses 19-31.

I will add that the gulf between Paradise and Spirit Prison was bridged by Jesus.  He went to the Spirit World after his body died on the cross.  Then Jesus, in Spirit form, organized the teaching of spirits in prison. Righteous Spirits would go to teach spirits in Spirit Prison.

This parable tells us to be kind to those less fortunate than us.  People who are poor should be helped, not neglected.  I will add that Jesus ministered extensively to the poor during His mortal ministry.  He also ministered some to the wealthy. And the righteous wealthy listened to His message.  The unrighteous wealthy did not.  In fact, some of the wealthy were certainly involved in getting him condemned before Pilate.  I will add that many of the poor found Jesus' doctrine too hard to follow.  But the message of this parable is clearly a warning to the rich in things of this world.
