Abraham Lincoln is widely considered one of the greatest presidents of the USA. He insisted on the Union being held together. He was against slavery and he freed most of the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation. The Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves in the states that were part of the Confederacy. The other slaves were freed by the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution.
