T. Rex Coloring

T. rex with Unique Pattern
(This is the new drawing today.
It will be in printable form at the  bottom of the pages that you access via the buttons at the top.  Namely the Paleontology Button and the All Printables  button.  This new drawing is designed after the scribble drawings I did as a kid.   My brothers and sisters and I would scribble on a page and then each section would be colored a different color.   I will admit that is is probably not very probable.pattern for T. rex . . but it was fun to draw so have fun coloring it.
In fact, I would color each part a different color...just for fun!)

We don't know the coloring of T. rex or most of the other dinosaurs.  We DO know the coloring of the flying dinosaur, Microraptor.  Biochemists were able to determine this with microscopic analysis of the fossilized feathers.  Microraptor was an iridescent black. . . kind of like a raven.  In any case, as far as T. rex... many modern animals have spots or stripes and some aquatic species can even change colors.  The below in color T. rex matches the volcanic environment nicely.

Tyrannosaurus vs Triceratops in color

This color drawing is not available in the printable pages.  It is a drawing I did using Prisma Colored Pencils and Pastel Chalk.  The dinosaurs have different patterns.  The Tyrannosaurs are camoflaughed for life in the very volcanic world of the Late Cretaceous Period.  The Triceratops have coloring on their frills for sexual selection. . . ie, to attract the females.  So coloring in animals can be for camouflage or for sexual attraction.  It can also be part of species identification for members of their own species.

Swallowed Tail Gull with Chick
Notice how the chick looks like the guano splattered rocks.   We saw some of these birds in the Galapagos Islands where the gull chick was camouflaged to look exactly like the guano splattered volcanic rocks.  This is considered evolution in action.

I am re-posting several drawings from previous posts that show many ways I have imagined T. rex may have looked.  No two patterns are alike.  Since I mentioned the black flying dinosaur Microraptor I am also re-posting that drawing.  All older drawings are found at the bottom of the correct list when you click the correct button up top.
