The Holy Family in the Stable coloring page

 This is my free coloring pages site. Yes, it is a blog too.

Today I am posting a drawing I did of the Holy Family.

They are depicted in the stable after Jesus was born.

The Holy Family in the Stable with Jesus in a Stone Manger

Jesus was and is the Creator of the Earth. His Father, our Heavenly Father, and His Heavenly Father commanded Jesus to create the Earth for us. Our Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother are the parents of our spirits. Our spirits are inside our mortal bodies. We knew Jesus in our Premortal life. He was our eldest Spirit brother. Jesus had volunteered to pay the price for our sins... so He was to be our Savior. He had incredible power. He HAD to be powerful in order to create the Earth.

So consider that the Creator of the Earth was born in a stable. His bed was a manger - probably a stone manger. His parents were poor, not rich. They had just traveled a great distance. There had been no room for them in the Inn in Bethlehem. That is how they ended up in a stable for the night. So consider again that the Creator of the World was born in the humblest of circumstances.  He was the greatest example of humility ever!  His birth circumstances were so humble.

Then the Wise Men, probably a couple of years later, visited and gave valuable gifts. Those gifts helped the Holy Family flee to Egypt. The Holy Family became refugees because Herod wanted to kill Jesus. An angel warned Joseph in a dream and he fled with his family to Egypt before Herod's soldiers could find and kill baby Jesus.  (Although Jesus was probably a toddler by the time the Wise Men showed up.

I want to explain some of the details in this drawing. Some are symbolic, and some are representative of the times Jesus was born and what we know about the Holy Family. 

Note that Joseph is a strong young man. He was a carpenter, and that is a physically demanding career. 

Mary was certainly a beautiful young woman. In this drawing, she looks a little frazzled. She just gave birth in a stable.  Of course, she's frazzled. But notice that Mary has a relieved smile on her face. Her baby has been born, and He is the Son of God. 

Chickens are in the drawing, and chickens are Kosher food for the Israelites, including the presumably Jewish innkeeper who probably owned the stable. 

The black sheep is symbolic of how Jesus will save those of us who are the "black sheep" of the family. When anyone sins, and we all sin, He will show mercy if we repent. This is because he paid the eternal price for our sins. 

Notice the dove on the perch. The dove is a symbol of the Holy Ghost. 

The donkey is a Bethlehem Donkey.  They have unique features. 

There is a lamb because Jesus was and is the Lamb of God. 

The ox reminds us of Jesus teaching that we would pull our ox out of the mire - even if it were the Sabbath.  This is Jesus pointing out that we need to follow the spirit of the law more than the letter of the law. At least that is my take on it. 

The ox is also a symbol of strength. Jesus was the strongest man ever to be on Earth because he bore the punishment for our sins while performing His Atonement in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross. 

Although often portrayed as wooden, the manger was more likely made of stone cemented together. 

The lamp represents that Jesus told us to be the light of the world so others would see our good works and glorify His Father in Heaven.

The horse is symbolic of royalty and strength, although Israelite kings also rode mules in ceremonial processions as a sign of their being kings of peace.  Jesus IS the King of Peace. 

You can see the Star of Bethlehem about to set if you look through the open window.

Baby Jesus is wrapped in swaddling clothes. These were long strips of cloth used to wrap babies and help them feel safe and comforted.

The ram in the back of the stable represents power, sacrifice, and leadership.  One day, Jesus will return, and He will have all power and be the leader of everyone on Earth. In fact, many of the Christmas hymns we sing talk about the power and glory Jesus will have when He returns to Earth in His second coming.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus coloring page

 Christmas is coming, and so I have done another Santa coloring page. 

Actually, I met Santa and Mrs. Claus today at a store, and I drew them.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus

This is another drawing of Santa with his wife, Jessica Claus. They are out and about sometime in December. The moon would be on the left because there is now sunlight at the North Pole in December.  You can see the shadows so there IS some light... but it is the light of a full moon. Feel free to draw a moon on the left and add stars to the sky. 

I heard a kid say something at a store years ago.  He said, "Mom, I get it! Santa is John the Beloved." Quite honestly, it would not surprise me to learn that John, the Beloved Apostle of Jesus, was still on the Earth and doing good... like giving gifts to children at Christmas. So in that sense, the kid got it right!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has a doctrine that John the Beloved was permitted to stay on Earth as an immortal.  He will be here when Jesus returns and is out and about doing good. 

So, COULD he be Santa, or at least doing "Santa-like things?  Of course he could!

Santa the Day before Christmas

The below poem is called:

THE DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS

The day before Christmas

Santa was out

He was bonding with reindeer

as he walked about

The sled was still empty

as it sat in the snow

But soon it would be loaded

and ready to go

The day before Christmas 

is fun for the elves

Into the season's spirit

they joyfully delve

The reindeer are out

and practicing their flying

As pairs race around

some win and some are tying

The castle was filled

with toys galore

Piled from the ceiling

and down to the floor

The moon was out 

and making shadows so soft

And soon Santa's sleigh

would be aloft

Where is the sun?

It is not in the sky

Because the North Pole latitude

is very, very high

So there is no sun 

in December up there

Yet everyone is adapted 

to the cold frigid air

Your breath you can see

when you are outside

Plus Christmas magic

makes it easy

For everyone to abide

Abide in the dark 

and cold winter nights

As everyone prepares

For Santa's annual flight

Nativity 2025

We celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in December.  He was and is our Saviour who allowed himself to suffer and be sacrificed for our sins.  So, because of him, we can repent and be forgiven. And we, too, will be able to return one day to our Heavenly Parents. We will also be resurreted and conquer death. Christmas carols tell much of the story of the importance of Jesus.  

For instance, "risen with healing in His wings,"  "born that man no more will die," and  "born to raise the sons of Earth, born to give them second birth."

Some Christmas carols are about the SECOND coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Or at least there are lines in the lyrics about the Second Coming of Jesus.  For example:

"He rules the world with truth and might... and makes the nations prove... the glory of His righteousness..."

Rhamphorhynchus Mates Flying coloring page and Book Review of The Dinosaurs' Night Before Christmas

Today's newest drawing is of one of the Jurassic Pterosaurs.

Rhamphorynchus Mates Flying

Rhamphorhynchus was an early Genus of Pterosaurs from the Jurassic Period. It had a tail like many Jurassic Pterosaurs.  It was NOT a flying, but it did live with dinosaurs in the same ecosystem. There were several species, and they range in size from .5 meters to up to possibly 4 meters wingspan.  That is about almost 20 inches and 157 inches. That is a wingspan of 13 feet 1 inch.  It ate fish and cephalopods. It was a very successful Genus of flying reptile or Pterosaur.

Rhamphorynchus lived in the Jurassic Period from 165 to 148 million years ago. It was found in Taznaia and Europe. 17 million years is quite a long time for a Genus to be on the Earth, so that is why it was a very successful Genus of animals.  In looking at the drawing, you decide which is the male and which is the female Rhamphorynchus.

I got the idea for the striped pattern on the wings from a great kids' book and CD called The Dinosaurs' Night Before Christmas. It has a cute story and several hilarious dinosaur Christmas Carol parodies - with dinosaur themes: Hark the Pterodactyl Sing is one example. Allosaurus Chorus is another example. The author of the book is Anne Muecke, and the illustrator is Nathan Hale. A few other song parody titles in the book are: Hey Duckbills and Deck the Halls With Stegosaurus.

I colored in the stripes, but not in great detail. I recommend that you color the stripes a dark color, and the white stripes can be any color you want... or just keep them white. Pterosaurs may have been brightly colored. Some may have been more earthy tones. For your coloring page - you decide.

Christmas 2025 The Lamb of God

Today's drawing is of Baby Jesus in a stone manger.

The Lamb of God

Baby Jesus probably lay in a manger made of stone. He probably did NOT lie in a wooden manger, but that IS a possibility. A manger is a long feeding trough for larger animals. As a kid, I had to go out and clean mangers with a pitchfork. A manger full of hay could be used as a cradle. But if it were made of stone, then it would have been larger than the mangers shown in most Nativity sets, drawings, or paintings. This is a stone manger, not an altar. But there is some symbolism there. 

Jesus was and is the Lamb of God. He suffered for us to pay the eternal prince for our sins, so we can repent. This means that when we repent of our sins and strive to do better, we can be forgiven and one day return to live with our family and our Heavenly Parents. The lamb in the drawing is also symbolic. Can you see why? 

We all lived in our premortal life. Jesus was our big brother. He volunteered to be our Savior. It is actually amazing that Jesus, the Creator of the Earth, was born into mortality in a stable and was laid in a manger for his cradle. 

We celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas. It is appropriate to celebrate Him - even though He was actually born in the spring, not the winter. The sacrificial lamb was an animal that was sacrificed in the Temple by the Jews. The lamb sacrifice was to represent the sacrifice of Jesus, who was sacrificed to suffer and die for our sins.  Then He was resurrected after 3 days and opened the door for all of us to be resurrected one day. So, Merry Christmas! We celebrate our salvation that Jesus made possible. 

Finally, the bird is a dove. The dove is a symbol of peace and of the Holy Ghost.

Abelisaur on a Flood Plain

Today I have drawn a coloring page of an Abelisaur. 

Abelisaur on a Flood Plain

Abelisaurs are a group of Theropod predatory dinosaurs. They lived 80-70 million years ago in the Cretaceous Period. Many of them lived in what is now South America. They ranged in size, but footprints at a Bolivia fossil footprint site show that perhaps there were some REALLY big Abelisaurs. There are footprints that are over a meter long... 1.2 meters to be exact. They are probably Abelisaur footprints. That would indicate that there were Abelisaurs that were up to 40 feet long! That is about as long as Tyrannosaurus rex. 

Abelisaurs had vestigial arms that were small. Their hands had 4 fingers, but only two of the fingers had phalanges or finger bones. The fossil site in Bolivia called Torotoro has evidence of Theropods going swimming. Their claws left claw marks in the sand as the Theropod dinosaur pushed off to go swimming.  So, this drawing shows an Abelisaur about to go for a swim. By the way, as the drawing title says, Abelisaurs lived and hunted on wide open flood plains. That is interesting when you consider that the dinosaur tracks at Torotoroare located between 8000 feet and 9350 feet.

Some Abelisaurs had eye bumps or almost eye horns above each eye. I guess you could call them eye crests. Those crests were probably for sexual display and species recognition. 

Newer findings show that grass and flowering plants WERE around in the late Cretaceous. So that is why you see them here in this drawing. There is a cycad and some ginkgo trees, plus some conifers as well.

Hanniah the Lacewing Dragon Fairy

Hanniah is a beautiful and kind Fairy. Of course, being kind is a huge part of beauty. Hanniah loves dragons - especially baby dragons. Baby dragons are also called "dragonlings."  Since dragons are not the best parents, for their offspring to survive and thrive, they rely on Dragon Fairies. Dragon Fairies take care of the egg and hatchling. The Dragon Fairy will care for the dragonling until the juvenile dragon is old enough to care for themselves. In this drawing, you can see that Hanniah has just taken possession of a dragon egg. The dragon egg is about to hatch.  She will need to care for the dragonling until it is around 6 months old. Then it will be able to care for itself. Also, part of that time, Hanniah will be bonding with the dragonling and teaching it to not eat humans... or Fairies.

Noelia the Christmas Fairy with Christmas Dove

Noelia is a Christmas Fairy. She loves decorating for Christmas. She is receiving help from a Christmas Dove. Christmas Doves are a symbol of peace. And Jesus is the Prince of Peace. The Christmas Dove is bringing a sprig of holly to help decorate the Christmas Tree. The holly will be an ornament on the tree. Notice that Noelia is wearing a wreath made of holly.  By the way, IF this is in North America, then the sprig would be of Oregon Grape because holly doesn't grow in North America.

Fantasy Sentient Beings - A Fairy, a Mermaid, and 2 Centaurs coloring pages

Southwest Cliff Fairy

Cliff Fairies are often associated with Native American culture, particularly in the Southwest of North America in the countries of the USA and Mexico.  There are still some European Fairies that have fallen in love with the Red Rock country of the Southwest. This drawing shows magnesium stains on the rocks. Magnesium stains are a dark reddish brown, or medium brown, or light brown, or even green.

Maelina, the name of this Fairy, is sitting on a high, jutting cliff wall.  She is holding her wand. She is a bit curvy. You should know that although many artists depict Fairies as being very thin, like people, not all Fairies are built like Disney's Tinkerbell. Some are much more curvy. All body types are accepted in the Fairy society. The Fairies of Light do not have body prejudices. All are welcome. 

Shark Mermaid

Sharks are an important part of the ocean ecosystem. Yet over the last 50 years, shark numbers worldwide have declined by over 70%. Shark Mermaids are striving to protect sharks from overfishing. This Mermaid is named Piastria. She has a powerful magical trident that she uses to cut fishing line, remove the hook, and heal the shark's mouth.

Centaur Couple with Magical Lighted Sphere of Helios 

Centaurs are sentient beings. So they are intelligent, like humans are. Of course, Fairies and Merpeople are sentient as well.  In this drawing, we see two teenage Centaurs. They have a Sphere of Helios that is glowing. Notice that the sphere is the source of light in the drawing. The Sphere of Helios has powerful magic. Centaurs nowadays are generally Beings of Light, so they would only do Light Magic, not dark magic. This couple is actually sweethearts, and love is the most powerful magic there is.
