Animals eaten at the First Thanksgiving coloring pages

Happy Thanksgiving!

This is my free cooring pages blog.

Today, I am posting some pictures I drew of the various animals that may have been served at the First Thanksgiving Feast. Yes, it includes turkey... but there were so many other forms of meat!

Wild Turkey & Passenger Pigeon

Back in 1621, in the area around Plymouth Colony, there WERE turkeys. But there were also Passenger Pigeons.  Sadly, now Passenger Pigeons are extinct... Was it the Pilgrim's fault?  Turkeys are a bird native to North America. So were Passenger Pigeons. Turkeys are found from Southern Canada to Guatemala. The largest wild turkey ever taken weighed over 37 lbs.

Canadian Geese on a River

Canadian Geese were probably part of the first Thanksgiving Feast.  Canadian Geese, also called "Honkers," are found all over North America from Northern Canada to Northern Mexico. Waterfowl are listed as part of the first Thanksgiving Feast.

Mallard Ducks on a Pond

Mallard Ducks are a very common duck in North America. They live from Northern Canada to Southern Mexico. The drakes have a beautiful green head that really stands out.

Whitetail Deer at an Overlook

Whitetail deer... or white-tailed deer... or white-tail deer are a common species of deer. They are found from Canada to northern South America. They were and still are the most common deer found near Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts.  The Wampanoag tribe of Native Americans brought 5 deer to the first Thanksgiving feast. So venison was on the menu... most certainly more so than turkey.

Swan, Grebes, Ducks, and Coots on a Pond

Swans were eaten by Native Americans, as were ducks and probably coots. Coots are a smaller, dark-feathered waterfowl. Grebes were probably hunted by Native Americans in the past. In the USA, Grebes are protected due to some species of Grebes almost being wiped out by European Americans.  Grebe feathers are very soft and were used in hats, etc. Notice that the grebe in the drawing is a mother with her grebelet on her back. By the way, I think swans are the most beautiful of all birds, so I could never hunt them. But I will also state that hunting organizations like Ducks Unlimited have many of the best conservationists for waterfowl. Growing up by a reservoir, we even had ducks and geese for Thanksgiving dinner some years. Nowadays, I never hunt, but I do love to fish for Trout. In fact, fish were also probably part of the first Thanksgiving Feast.

NOTE: These drawings are found in printable form by clicking on the button labeled "Holidays" and then scrolling down to the Thanksgiving section. Have fun coloring these "tasty" animals.

Four Flower Fairy coloring pages

This is my free coloring pages blog.

There are over 3000 drawings that I have done for you to print and color.

This is not coloring online. I taught kindergarten for a few years and I believe in crayons.

Today's new drawings are all Flower Fairies.

Kira the Flower Fairy

Kira is a Flower Fairy. Her favorite flowers are Black-Eyed Susans. She is also a Polenation Fairy who obtains pollen from one flower and transfers it onto another flower of the same species. She is also a very kind Fairy. She is very beautiful, but a coloring page can not show all that beauty.  See below for more on beauty.  (Meaning in the paragraph before the NOTE.)  By the way, Kira is wearing an outfit made from small leaves and flower petals.  Many Fairies wear naturally-sourced clothing of a plant nature.

Swallowtail Pollination Fairy

Swallowtail Fairies have butterfly-like wings that are similar to wings on a swallowtail butterfly.  A Pollination Fairy, as mentioned above, spreads pollen from flower to flower. They do this when there is a lack of sufficient pollinator animals like bees and hummingbirds. This Fairy is named Ellagenia.

Tulip Pollination Fairy

Some Pollination Fairies specialize in one type of flower, like this one. Other Flower Pollination Fairies work with many species of flowers. Here we see a Tulip Fairy or Tulip Pollination Fairy sitting on a stump and pollinating a tulip that grew next to the stump.  This Fairy's name is appropriately Tulipia.

Floria the Ground Cover Flower Fairy

This is a type of Flower Fairy that specializes in low-to-the-ground flowers. She is named Floria, and she is sitting on a rock to pollinate the Drift Ground Cover Roses. She uses her wand to magically collect pollen from one flower and place the pollen on the next flower. Floria is a beautiful Fairy. Her outfit is made of small leaves and flower petals.

About beauty, these Fairies are all beautiful. But they are beautiful because they are beautiful on the INside, not just the outside.  I want to say that the greatest of all of God's creations is His children. Yes, WE are God's greatest creation. And that means WE are a more important creation than planets, suns, and galaxies. I think the human body is absolutely magnificent, male/female. And God sees beauty in every one of His children. Plus, He sees into our souls and knows what true beauty is. So that includes God's other sentient beings like Fairies, Mermaids, Unicorns, Elves, Dwarfs, etc.

F-16 in Battle coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawing is of an F-16 Fighting Falcon.

F-16 Fighting Falcon in Combat

This was a quick drawing that I did for my grandson. He added the enemy jets and the Sidewinder Missile fired from the F-16.  The details of the jet are not extensive.  I drew this from memory during church, if you can believe that. It was a quick drawing. If you want to add exhaust coming from the back of the F-16, that would make sense.  I should tell you that this is my absolute favorite fighter jet.

The F-16 is a workhorse jet. It can be used for both air-to-air combat and air-to-ground attack. It is smaller than many other jets, and it is also less expensive.  The F-16 can fly at a speed of MACH 2 or about 1500 mph. It has a ceiling of 50,000 feet. It has a wingspan of 32 feet and a length of 49.5 feet.

For armament, the F-16 can carry a lot of different weapons, including air-to-ground bombs or missiles and air-to-air missiles. It can carry an electronic warfare pod as well. It can carry a payload of up to 12,000 lbs. That is 5443 kg. It also has a 20 mm rotating Vulcan cannon for short-range. This is like a modern Gatling gun.

The F-16 has a maximum ferry range of 2000 miles. It has a combat range of up to 500 miles, depending on the payload. That works out to about 805 km. A heavy load of armament would lead to a combat range of more like 340 miles or 547 km.

There are more than 4600 F-16s that have been produced since they first appeared in 1976.  Right now, there are an estimated 2400 to 2600 still in service in several different countries.  It is the most common fighter and even the most common fixed-wing military aircraft in the world at present. New ones are still being produced with many upgrades.

King Benjamin coloring pages

This is my free coloring pages blog.

There are over 3000 drawings or coloring pages here.

I drew all but a few that were drawn by a grandniece and grandnephew.

Today's new drawing is of King Benjamin.

King Benjamin teaching from His Tower

King Benjamin was a great king in Ancient America. When he was getting older, he had a tower built so that he could teach his people. He first announced his successor, his son Mosiah. Then King Benjamin taught his people about Jesus and how Jesus would have us treat each other.

King Benjamin especially talked about how we should treat the poor. We should clothe them, feed them, and give them shelter. If we say in our hearts, "They brought this on themselves, so they deserve their bad situation," then WE are under condemnation.

Jesus also taught that same doctrine. We are supposed to care for and administer to the poor, sick, imprisoned, and the afflicted, not abandon them.

King Benjamin had called his people together to give them a final message. They came in families with tents, and each family had their own tent so they could hear him speaking, and presumably the family could stay out of the sun. You can read about King Benjamin in The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Christ. Look in the first chapters of the book of Mosiah.

Allosaurus coloring pages

Here you will find over 3000 free-to-print coloring pages.

Today's free drawings are of Allosaurus jimmadseni.

Juvenile Allosaurus jimmadseni

Allosaurus jimmadseni was a large Theropod predator of the Jurassic Period.  Allosaurus fragilis grew up to 40 feet long, or 12 meters long, and weighed up to 4 tons.  It was one of the apex predators of the age. Allosaurus jimmadseni was a different species from the more well-known Allosaurus fragilis. Allosaurus jimmadseni lived millions of years before Allosaurus fragilis. Allosaurus jimmadseni was able to grow up to 33feet long or 10 meters long. It could weigh up to 2.5 tons or 2300 kg.

Allosaurus jimmadseni had a crest above and in front of each eye.  It had a shorter crest on its snout as well. It most probably was the ancestor of the later Allosaurs, like Allosaurus fragilis.

Allosaurus fragilis Mother and Chick at an Overlook

In this drawing we see a mother Allosaurus fragilis with her chick at a valley overlook. Remember that an adult Allosaurus fragilis could grow to be 40 feet long. Allosaurus fragilis lived later than its smaller probable ancestor, Allosaurus jimmadseni.

Jesus Praying at the Temple in Jerusalem coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.

If you are not new to my blog, welcome back!

Today, the new coloring page drawing is of Jesus.

I often draw Jesus during church on Sundays.

Jesus praying at the Temple in Jerusalem

Notice that Jesus has on a prayer shawl in this drawing. In this drawing, I imagined Jesus at the Temple early in the morning, so no one was in sight but Him.  He liked solitude sometimes.  He used time away to commune with His Father... our Father in Heaven as well.

You see, Jesus was the Only Begotten Son of God.  We ALL are spirit children of our Heavenly Parents. But Jesus was also the Son of God on Earth.  We were all with Jesus in our premortal life. We were there with our Heavenly Parents and everyone who has ever been, or is now on the Earth, or will be on the Earth. Of course, we were there as spirit children of Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother.

Jesus volunteered to be our Savior. He paid the eternal price for our sins so that we can repent and return to live with our Heavenly Family... and our formerly mortal family.  Everything in Heaven revolves around Family.  Things are even organized by Family.

We have to have Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and we need to know how to repent. And of course, we all sin and we all need to repent and strive to do better. Jesus was the only person ever to live on Earth who never needed to repent.

I should mention that I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  We have that doctrine of a premortal life where we were all there with Jesus, who was our eldest Spirit Brother... along with our Heavenly Parents and everyone else.

American Crow coloring page

Welcome to my blog. This is a free coloring page site.

There are over 3000 free-to-print coloring pages here.

Today I am posting a drawing I did of an American Crow.

American Crow

This crow is sitting on a branch of an elm tree. You can tell because the serrated leaves are asymmetrical. Crows are one of the most intelligent animals out there.  They have a high brain-to-body ratio. They use tools to get food and remember where they put the tools. They can recognize human faces and even remember specific humans. They are a social bird and quite successful.

NOTE: This coloring page, in printable form, is found by clicking on the "Birds" button and scrolling down to the bottom of the list. New drawings are at the bottom of the list.

Happy Veteran's Day 2025

Today is Veterans' Day in the USA

So I really want to say,

Thank you to those who had the nerve

To defend our country and serve

The drawing below is not a new drawing. It is a drawing of my father, who was a B-24 pilot in World War II. He enlisted the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed.  His two best friends enlisted with him. HE returned to marry, attend Medical School, and have a bunch of kids, including me. His two friends did not survive their time in the Army Air Corps.

Dad never talked much about the war.  He used to say that while on his bombing missions, he felt like he should be teaching those kids down there the Gospel of Jesus Christ instead of having to bomb them. His missions were against transportation, like bridges and railroads. Yet he served his country and did what he had to do to eradicate violent and aggressive fascism in Europe. Sadly, it appears to me that fascism is trying to raise its ugly head here in the USA. That is so sad and so ironic.

Talos sampsoni a New Raptor from Utah coloring page

This is my free coloring pages blog.

I have drawn and posted over 3000 pictures for you to print and color.

Today's new drawing is of a newly discovered raptor dinosaur

named Talos samsoni.

Talos sampsoni

Talos samsoni was a raptor dinosaur that lived in what is now Southern Utah. It was around 6 f 1/2eet long or bout meters long. It weighed about 84 lbs or a mass of 38 kg. It had killer sickle claws - one on each foot. It had feathers and probably was a pack hunter. It lived 78 million years ago in the Late Cretaceous. By the way, this dinosaur was around a yard or just under a meter high.

I got to meet the Paleontologist who named Talos.  She is Dr. Lindsay Zanno. She is a professor at North Carolina State University and Head of Paleontology at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science.  She is an expert in Theropod dinosaurs.  In fact, if you read my last post, she was on the team of Paleontologists who identified Nanotyrannus as a true separate species from T. rex.  Dr. Zanno got her master's and her PhD from the University of Utah. I expect that is where she was taught by Dr. Scott Sampson.  So that is why Talos has the species name of samsoni. Dr. Sampson was also involved in the discovery of Talos samsoni.

The Pterosaur is similar to a Cryodrakon. An ulna or arm bone (wing bone) of a fairly large Pterosaur has been found in the same part of Southern Utah.  This flying reptile or Pterosaur was NOT a dinosaur.  But it/they lived with the dinosaurs - or at least they lived at the same time. A Cryodrakon had a wingspan of 16 feet or 5 meters. However, there is new evidence that the original fossils were of subadults.  It may be that Cryodrakon was as big as Quetzalcoatlus, with a wingspan of 33 feet or 10 meters.  In any case, there WAS a large Pterosaur living in what is now the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument - where Talos was found.

NOTE: This drawing, in printable form, is found by clicking on the button labeled "Paleontology." Then scroll down to the bottom of the "Mesozoic Life" section of the drop-down menu. Have fun coloring this relatively newly discovered raptor dinosaur!

Nanotyrannus coloring pages

Here you have found my free coloring pages blog.

There are over 3000 drawings that I have drawn for you to print and color.

Nanotyrannus without Feathers

THIS dinosaur has been the source of much debate. The key issue is: Was this Theropod dinosaur a separate species of Tyrannosaur, or was it a juvenile T. rex?  Recently, evaluations have supported the idea that Nanotyrannus is a separate species of dinosaur.  It has some unique traits that would not have changed to be like a T. rex.

Nanotyrannus with Feathers

Nanotyrranus was a smaller Tyrannosaur about 18-20 feet long or around 5 meters long. It weighed about 1500 lbs. or a mass of 680 kg.  It was around only 1/10 the weight of a full-grown adult T. rex. It has been discovered that it lived at the same time as Tyrannosaurus rex. Nanotyrannus was smaller and much faster. It had teeth made for slicing, not breaking bones. That is one of several differences that show that Nanotyrannus was a separate contemporary species of Tyrannosar, but NOT a T. rex.

There is a possibility that Nanotyrannus had feathers, since its Tyrannosaur cousin Yutyrannus had feathers. But maybe Nanotyrannus only had feathers as a juvenile, in order to keep warm. But it lost its feathers when it fully matured.  So far, we do not know conclusively.

I have a challenge for you:  What differences do you see in the second drawing?  It is similar, but many things have been added to the drawing.  Obviously, the second drawing has a feathered dinosaur.  What else is different or added?

NOTE:  To find the printable versions of these two drawings, just click on the "Paleontology" button. Then scroll down to the bottom of the "Mesozoic Life" section.  Have fun coloring!

Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz coloring page

This is my free coloring pages blog.

Today, I am posting a drawing I did of a neighbor girl who was dressed as Dorothy for Halloween.

Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz

I think it is worth mentioning that Dorothy is a strong female character. She is incredibly brave and open to new experiences. She is also friendly and kind to outcasts. Think about it, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman... all are treated kindly by her.  AND they are encouraged to follow their dreams... by Dorothy.  Dorothy is also a family-loving girl who cares about her aunt and uncle.

Dorothy and her dog Toto is the point of focus for this drawing.  The background of farms, the Emerald City, and the Yellow-Brick Road are there for the setting, but done in far less detail.

NOTE: This drawing can be found in printable form by clicking on the button labeled Fantasy, Myths, and Circus. Then scroll down to the bottom of the list.  Have fun coloring, Dorothy!
