Celebration of Freedom coloring pages

This is a free coloring pages blog.

For Independence Day... the Fourth of July...

I have decided to celebrate freedom

with drawings of freedom

from the United States History,

the Mexican History

and the story of freedom in

the Book of Mormon,

Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

All these drawings can be found,

in printable form, by clicking

on the Holidays button up at the top of the page.

Battle of Baltimore Fort McHenry

During the War of 1812, Francis Scott Key
was a lawyer who went on board
a British Navy man of war to negotiate the release of a captured
American physician.  The negotiations were successful but Key had to stay onboard the British warship overnight because the
British Navy was about to bombard Fort McHenry at the entrance to Baltimore Harbor.  All night long the British cannons and rockets fired on the American fort.  It was looking bad for the Americans.  In the early morning, Key saw that the fort
had not surrendered because the oversized flag was still flying.  It was full of holes from the battle, but it was still there.  This inspired
Key to write the poem The Star-Spangled Banner.  The poem was put to music and it became the national anthem of the
 United States of  America.

Battle of Brooklyn escape

In the Battle of Brooklyn George Washington and his Continental Army were trapped.  The British commander decided to lay a siege to Brooklyn, but General Wahington, and his army, escaped by boat overnight and although he had lost the battle, General Washington's army was still intact.  And of course, a few years later the Continental Army won the war and independence for what became The United States of America.

Battle of Puebla

On the 5th of May in 1862 the French had invaded Mexico.
A much smaller and ill-equipped non-professional army
of Mexicans defeated the French in the Battle of Puebla.  The Mexican Commander was Ignacio Zaragoza defended the city of Puebla and after three attacks the French were forced to withdraw.  Then the brilliant Zaragoza unleashed hidden troops and cavalry on the flanks of the French army and made the victory even more decisive.  The Mexican state or Estado de Puebla celebrates this victory every year as Cinco De Mayo.  This is also a celebration in the United States of America for many of us who are of Mexican descent or who just love the Mexican culture.

Captain Moroni as a Mound Builder

Captain Moroni if the Nephites were the Mississippian culture

Captain Moroni prays with the Title of Liberty

Captain Moroni was a general actually.
His story is in The Book of Mormon,
Another Testament of Jesus Christ
He is depicted here in the armor of the Hopewell
or Mississippian, or Mound Builder culture.
Captain Moroni was a great military leader,
yet he did not delight in killing.  He did what was necessary to defeat the Lamanites, who at the
time were a very dangerous enemy.  At some times
in the Book Of Mormon stories, we see the Lamanites
as the righteous people, but in the time of Captain
Moroni, a Nephite dissenter had turned the Lamanites
against the Nephites.  There was an evil man named
Amalackiah who wanted to be king of the Nephites.

But the Nephite people voted to keep their republic so Amalackiah
tried to overthrow the government.  He was defeated in battle
because Captain Moroni made a flag of sorts that he called
The Title of Liberty, which had written on it:

"In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives,
and our children."[

The good Nephites, who loved freedom flocked to Moroni's banner and Moroni raised a large army to defeat Amalackiah and his followers.  Moroni was a great man.  It is amazing how much good one good person can do and how much damage one evil person can do.  This should help us think about how much we influence the world... for good or evil.  It kinda makes you think.

B-24 Mitchell Bomber

This bomber aircraft was used in World War II.
My own father was a pilot of one of these bombers.
He did his duty, but he used to say that he felt bad about it.
He said that he should have been teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those people instead of bombing them.
We owe a great debt of gratitude for the brave men and
women who serve in our armed forces.

Dauntless Dive Bomber

The Dauntless Dive Bomber was used by America in World War II.
It was an aircraft carrier based dive bomber and it was what sank four Japanese ships at the Battle of Midway, way west of Hawaii.
Another plane, the torpedo bombers, were almost all shot down.  But since the torpedo bombers had attacked first, they had pulled the Japanese fighter cover down so the American dive bombers were able to attack the Japanese carriers without worrying about the excellent and dangerous Japanese Zero fighters.  One squadron of American torpedo bombers was completely wiped out.  ONE pilot survived name Ensign George Gay.

F-16 Fighter Bomber

The F-16 is my favorite plane of all time.
It has such beautiful lines.
It is being replaced by the amazing F-35.
