Soriatitan the New European Braciosuar

Soriatitan is the newest discovered Brachiosaur.  It was discovered in Europe.  It lived during the Early Cretaceous Period.  This shows that Brachiosaurs lived on past the Jurassic and into the Cretaceous Period.  The fossil remains were found in Spain. The full scientific name is Soriatitan golmayensis.

Soriatitan was big, but not near as big as the biggest Brachiosaurs like Sauroposiedon.  Soriatitan was around 46 feet or 14 meters long.  It was about 40 feet tall or 12 meters tall. It weighed about 8 tons. An African elephant weighs around 6.5 tons so Soriatitan weighed more than an elephant. 8 tons is 16,000 lbs.  So Soriatitan weighed 16,000 lbs. or 7,257 kg. That is way less than Brachiosaurus.  Brachiosaurus weighed an estimated 62 tons.  Sauroposeidon, the biggest Brachiosaur, weighed 65 tons or 130,000 lbs.  That is almost 59,000 kg.  Another Brachiosaur named Giraffatitan weighed 43.5 tons.

AS far as height... the various Brachiosars all had the longer front legs and so they were the tallest of the long-necked Sauropods.  Sauroposeidon was the tallest at around 60 feet tall.  That is 18.3 meters tall.  Giraffatitan was 39 feet tall or about 12 meters tall. Brachiosaurus was about 31 feet tall.  That is 13 meters tall.  Then there is today's newest Brachiosaur, Soriatitan who was 40 feet tall or  12 meters tall.

NOTE:  This new drawing of Soriatitan is found, in printable form, at the bottom of the list when you click on the "Paleontology" button.  Just scroll down to the bottom of the list of drawings.  The other Brachiosaur drawings are found further up the list.  I am now going to post older drawings of Brachiosaurs.  Have fun coloring them!
