Glyptodon the Giant Armadillo coloring page

This is a free coloring pages blog.

There are over 3000 drawings (that I have drawn)

that you can print to color... or for kids to color.

Today's newest drawing is of

Glyptodon - the giant armadillo.

Glyptodon Mother and Pup

Glyptodon is indeed or WAS indeed a type of giant armadillo.  It went extinct 7000 years ago.  But the amazing thing is that Glyptodons first evolved in South America around 30 million years ago.  That makes it one of the most successful genera of large animals.  Their protective shell was a big contributor to the long-term survival of the genus.  They most certainly needed protection from saber-toothed cans and terror birds.

Glyptodons could reach almost 5 feet in height... or 1.5 meters tall.  They could be up to 11 feet or 3.3 meters long.  That is huge.  They could weigh up to two tons.  There were five species of Glyptodon in both North and South America.  These large mammals were herbivores that fed on low-lying plants like grass and ferns.

NOTE:  This drawing is found in printable form by clicking on the button labeled Paleontology.  Then scroll down to the bottom of the Cenozoic Life section to see this drawing.  Have fun coloring this unusual animal.
