Diabloceratops the Devil Dinosaur coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

Today's new drawing is of a Ceratopsian or horned dinosaur

called Diabloceratops.

Diabloceratops lived about 80 million years ago in what is now Southern Utah.  It was during the Late Cretaceous Period, but not at the very end of the period, that was 65 million years ago.  It was 18 feet long.  That is 5.5 meters.  Diabloceratops means "Devil-horned Face."  This is because it had two long horns on its frill that looked like long devil horns.  Diabloceratops weighed between 1 and 2 tons. This means that Diabloceratops was a medium-sized Ceratopsian dinosaur.

Diabloceratops is one of the oldest Ceratopsian dinosaurs we know of at this point.  It was the first Ceratopsian discovered in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.  Several other interesting or freaky species have been found since.  The Generic or Genus name is Diabloceratops and the species name is eatoni.  This honors a paleontologist named Jeffery Eaton from a Utah university called Weber State University.  He, Eaton, is a friend of the lead author of the paper that introduced this dino to the world.  That man is Jim Kirkland, the State Paleontologist for Utah.

So the full scientific name for this rather freaky dinosaur is Diablosaurus eatoni.

NOTE:  This drawing, in printable form, is found by clicking on the button labeled "Paleontology" and scrolling down to the bottom of the "Mesozoic" part of the list.  I should note that the drawings at the top of the lists are having problems printing due to a new security update.  I am trying to fix this.  If you want to print one of the older drawings then email me and I can grant you individual access.  Sorry about the inconvenience.
