F/A-18F Super Hornet coloring page

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawing is another fighter jet... although it is both a fighter and

a ground attack aircraft.  It is the F/A-18F two-seater Fighter and Attack jet.

F/A-18F Super Hornet

The F/A-18F is a carrier-based US Navy fighter and attack aircraft... or jet.  The F stands for fighter and the A stands for ground attack.  The F/A-18E and F are bigger and more powerful than the older F/A-18 jet they replaced. The E variant is a single-seater and the F version is a Twin seater or two-seater.  Each of the Super Hornet's twin engines has a thrust of up to 17,000 lbs.  Its top speed is MACH 1.6 or about 1,190 mph.  It weighs just over 32,000 lbs empty and over 60,000 lbs fully loaded with extra fuel tanks and bombs/missiles etc.  It weighs around 47,000 lbs when equipped for its role as a fighter.  It is 60 ft 125 inches long and has a wingspan of 44 feet 8.5 inches.  The horizontal stabilizers of all the F-18s are canted outwards to help with maneuverability and airflow.  This also reduces their radar signature. Block 3 is the most advanced and latest version of the Super Hornet and it has a lower radar signature and more advanced cockpit displays as well as advanced networking systems.  It also can be active for 10,000 hours of flying over the course of its lifetime.

In the older version of the F/A-18... the Hornet, there were smaller engines and less capacity for armament.  Several countries have bought the F/A-18 Hornet and the Super Hornet.  1,480 Hornets were built and over 600 Super Hornets have been built.  This drawing shows a Nimitz Class US Aircraft Carrier and a few escort vessels.

Since the jet is named the Super Hornet I included a close-up of a Hornet... the insect called a hornet. A hornet is the largest of the eusocial wasps.  These are the wasps that live in a colony with high levels of social organization with a queen etc.   Hornets will defend their nest very aggressively if they think that their nest is being threatned.
