This is a free coloring pages blog.

Today's new drawings of a mother Spinosaurus caring for her chick.

Spinosaurus Mother caring for Her Young Chick

(new drawing)

Theropods were usually the big or small carnivorous dinosaurs.  Evidence from Portugal shows that these dinosaurs hatched with small but sharp teeth but they were tiny.  So the newly hatched juvenile dinosaurs needed parental care.

So, in spite of how huge a Spinosaurus could be... 55 feet long... or almost 17 meters long.  Yet they had the ability to tenderly care for their young.  Since we now know that Spinosaurs lived a crocodile-like lifestyle, and crocs carry their young in their mouth, it is not unreasonable to assume that the parents carried their young in their mouth.

This Spinosaurus has a few protofeathers.  It is now thought that many Theropod dinosaurs had feathers or at least protofeathers.  This may be more true for Theropods from the Cretaceous Period like Spinosaurus.  The correct scientific name for this animal is Spinosaurus aegyptiacus.  It was the largest Theropod we know of.  It may have weighed over 7 tons.

NOTE:  This new drawing in printable form, can be found by clicking on the button labeled "Paleontology."  Then scroll down to the bottom of the Mesozoic section to get the printable page.  Below are some older drawings of  Spinosaurus Theropods caring for their young.  The new drawing is more accurate as far as the head and mouth because I drew it from a photo of the skull.

(Notice the four-legged posture.  This is thought to be how Spinosaurus walked.)
