Maginia the Waterfall Fairy and other River Fairy coloring pages

Welcome to my free coloring pages blog!

Today's new drawing is of a Waterfall Fairy

Maginia the Waterfall Fairy
(New Drawing)

Waterfall Fairies are a type of River Fairy.  They live in caves just behind some waterfalls.  Waterfall Fairies are unique in that they do not change to Fairy size when at home.  Other Fairies live under trees usually and their underground villages are very small with 5 inch or so tall Fairies.  But Waterfall Fairies like to stay mortal size most of the time.  Of course, they CAN transform into Fairy size but they don't do it very often.  And they almost never go to Fairy size.

Waterfall Fairies are particularly talented with invisibility charms.  They love to play in the falling water of the waterfall.  When mortals stand near a waterfall they will often have an errant stream of water soak them.  The sopping wet mortal or mortals will be surprised and wonder how that happened.  It isn't that the Waterfall Fairies get the mortals down below wet on purpose, but the Fairies playing up in the waterfall naturally divert some of the water from its normal course.  So when you are standing near the base of a waterfall... be careful you are not standing too close.

The home cave of Waterfall Fairies is almost always magically protected from mortal intrusion.  There are some caves behind waterfalls where mortals go, but the larger part of the cave is hidden from mortal eyes and mortal passage.

Notice that Maginia is not wearing a dress.  River Fairies often do not wear loose clothing.  They prefer streamlined clothing, yet they also prefer plant-based clothing that has been magically bonded and strengthened.  Streamlined clothing lets them swim through the water better.  In fact, when a mortal sees a bigger than average splash at the base of a waterfall they assume it was just water.  But what they saw was actually a Waterfall Fairy diving into the stream.  The Waterfall Fairies will often dive from high up in the waterfall and down into the water below.  By the way, the Waterfall Fairies are great swimmers and they will swim downstream and leave the water carefully to hide their presence if any mortals are nearby.  Their wings are useful for both airborne flight and for swimming through the river.  They will emerge from the water downstream and then fly back into the waterfall to play.

It is hard to see in this drawing, but Waterfall Fairies also have adapted to water life by having webbed toes and fingers.  This helps them swim faster and more precisely.  All River Fairies use their hands for steering as well and movement.  Remember that Waterfall Fairies are a type of River Fairy.  So they have lungs that are adapted to extract oxygen from both the air and the water.  Waterfall Fairies almost always have caves behind the waterfall that are filled with air, not water.  Although sometimes there are submerged parts of the cave.  Bluecap Fairies (who specialize in mining) often help in the construction and maintenance of Waterfall Fairy caves.

Notice that Maginia is wearing a flying belt.  Most Fairies will wear flying belts or "Balteum Volantes."  The flying belt helps Fairies fly further and faster than they can with just wings.  But for a Waterfall Fairy, the flying belt also helps them swim upstream when needed and it helps them levitate as they play in the falling water of the waterfall.

So, the next time you are at a waterfall just watch it carefully.  You MIGHT detect the shapes of Waterfall Fairies as they play in the falling water or when they plunge into the stream below the waterfall.

NOTE:  This new drawing of "Maginia the Waterfall Fairy," in printable form, is found by clicking on the button labeled:  "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus" ...and scrolling down to the bottom of the list.
New drawings are at the bottom of the list.  Below I am posting some other Fairies who live in or near a water environment.

Bluecap Fairies

(Bluecap Fairies are not terribly fond of water, but they DO help

Waterfall Fairies construct their cave-based villages.)

Congaree Fairy

(Congaree Fairies live in a swampy environment.   This one has her wings internalized.)

Congaree Fairy with Wings Out
(HEre the Congaree Fairy has her wings out.  Her wings are lacewings because she lives in the swamp.  IF you saw her you would think you were seeing a large dragonfly.)
